Hello everyone,

I'm the team leader and face of Golden Gryffon Game Studios. The studio is a partnership that many regulars will recognize for being involved in the community. JarlFrank and ProphetSword are members of the partnership with a silent partner at this point in time. They are valuable team members working on the first cRPG from GGGS titled Myths of Malignost.

Myths is an innovative cRPG that is its own distinct style that is different in many aspects of prior cRPGs. Many of the enhancements are visually identifiable such as using mounts both in and out of combat. ProphetSword is in charge of coding the game. I'm responsible for making the world and the map. JarlFrank is creating a very in depth history of Malignost and designing all the quests. We do have an industry veteran on board that is advising us as well as working on various things like coding. I am working on the environments and scaling the entire kingdom of Golden Gryffon down to a reasonable map size within Unity to be 16 km2/6 square miles.

For more information regarding the game please look here.

Our goal is to have a fully playable demo for when the game Kickstarts at a later date. The position that needs to be filled immediately is for 2d/3d artist that will be responsible for all concept art to making models that are required for the game. This position is also a partnership position, so that not only will a person be able to follow their passion with art but they will also be part of the board that directs the company for future projects.

The overall art style that we're looking for is Larry Elmore type from when he worked at TSR. It should be relatively realistic in style and in taste.

We're using Unity3D 5 engine and will be doing PBR shading. During exploration, it will be in first person perspective while combat will be in 3d isometric for tactical based battles. The platform for the game will be PC and may be extended to Mac and Linux at a later date.

If you are interested in doing 2d/3d art please pm me a link to your portfolio and I can add you to the pool of candidates.

Sincerely,

JameDixon

I can see the attraction of the alliteration ( well not really) but change the Gryffon to something that starts with "I" so you can be GIGS. Or possibly something with an "A" .... if you are really adventurous

Good luck, you'll really really need it. The art is by far the hardest part for an indie studio and getting one artist that is decent in one area, let alone an artist that can do all the art is an uphill battle. Especially if you won't be providing him with a paycheck (no, kickstarter pie in the sky doesn't count).

Not an expert by any means but from what I understand usually the position for 2d/3d artist are filled by many different people because it's a truckload of work and if you hope to create a playable demo in a reasonable amount of time you might need more than one person here - concept artist, modeler environment, modeler characters (rigger, animator), 2d artist (UI, Illustrations, textures). Depending on the scope of the demo a single person can do multiple of these tasks but I doubt a single person can accomplish all those tasks before Grimoire gets released.

Also sound/music is important, don't go for stock audio files if you can avoid it. Even if you label the demo in neon bright letters that say "alpha / pre-alpha proof of concept demo. Does not reflect the quality of the final product" apparently many people still judge elements of such a demo as indicator for the final quality of a game. Or at least that's what I read on several post mortems.

Yeah, this posting is simply too big for just one person. You should get Jarl to do as much art as he can and then look for somebody to do the rest.

Nah, I don't think my art is up to par for a game that's not in the humorous slapstick category.

some advice, because your op gives the impression of not knowing what you're talking about:

1) you need to specify what camera perspective/gaming platform/gameplay you're aiming for. this is essential for creating assets and to estimate the workload.
3) you need to talk about the engine being used, and about pbr or traditional shading.
2) besides a character artist you will also need an animator (sometimes even a rigger) and an environment artist. creating 3d models is a highly specialized field, and you'll seldom find jack of all trades there.
3) good news is that there are millions of freelancers out there. the bad is that you'll hardly find someone who's not into money but a partnership.
4) ask for being pmed about a portfolio. i doubt that artists will post professional samples in a crpg forum. not talking about prosper here.
5) a truckload of information! show potentially interested members what you got and where you want to go. right now you're asking people for their time without giving anything beforehand. that works if you're a famous game developer, not so much if your "company" is just a bunch of nerds lacking reputation.

It wouldn't be a bad name for a game studio, and you could use it for other businesses if you go bust.
