yeah, but I imagine all those combinations 'rz', 'cz'. 'sz' must look strange for someone who doesn't know their meaining.

We have a word that is spelled "chrząszcz", I would make fun of that too propably.

Of course those combinations of consonats represent specific phonetic elements (whos difference in sound is sometimes very very subtle), but again for someone who doesnt know this, it must look awkward.

The latin alfabet just doesn't suit slavic languages to well, imho;
We probably sound like Argonians to the outsiders.

Also:
"-Grzegorz Brzęszczyszczykiewicz
(...)
-Chrząszczyrzebąszyce, Powiat Łukołęcki"

Nah, we just broke it.

Fake edit:
The code, that is.

That's what I meant actually. Poles thought out these strange computers, ultra machines, 'bombs' or whatever they were called. It seems the pole has a thing for decryption, cause his written language looks like cyphertext already.

So why are there news about this game? It has absolutely nothing in common with RPGs now.

And it tells you much when the video starts with the guy commenting "look at teh graphics, it's the first thing you'll notice, a dragon durrr fap fap cool isn't it, graphics shadows graphic durrr".
And then they show Mass Effect long "dialogues" which are basically Yes/No
The reactions of NPCs are laughable - hey man what did you do? *after 3 seconds* resumes his waypoint routine.

The thing is just that you transliterate all these "szcz" sounds. If you replaced them with an own letter everything looks normal. Why not you use something like an umlaut? In german we use ä ö ü ß, for example? Skandinavians do it, the czech and yugos do it too btw.

Alternatively you could just dump polish altogether, and speak german instead.

we have 'ą', 'ć', 'ę', 'ł', 'ń', 'ó', 'ź' and 'ż' too.

Also, at least we don't have problems Germans have with their wonky keyboards.

Jawohl.

To demonstrate, I just mark all those redundant sounds in your polish example:

Grzegorz Brzęszczyszczykiewicz
(...)
-Chrząszczyrzebąszyce, Powiat Łukołęcki"

and replace them with the czech č , cause I know next to nothing about slavic languages:

Grzegorz Brzęčyčykiewič
(...)
-Chrząčyrzebąčyce, Powiat Łukołęči"

I think this looks much easier on the eyes doesn't it?

One thing to keep in mind - the video is focused on selling the game to a publisher. Not impressing people with dialog and choices and consequences. I'm not saying it IS going to have those, either, but when it comes to getting a publisher to pick-up the game, of course they're going to show off the graphics and technology first and foremost.

Also, I agree the NPC reactions are silly, but it IS an Alpha, which means they will hopefully improve a great deal.

I laughed my ass off when they used "innovative" and "quick time events" in the same sentence. You can't make shit like that up. I wonder if they're already working on the Enhanced Edition of Witcher 2?

Ahem - they are the publisher. And it isn't like they need to look for publishers in other countries, those will come themselves after the success of TW among the console-gameplay crowd.
No the video was focused on selling the game to retards who think that the RPG is no different from slasher/shooter - like always.

Also did he call it a pure RPG in the video? It was hard to tell because of the accent.

I like the QTEs as long as they are like in that video. They give you a small advantage or disadvantage and enhance the atmosphere a bit. As long as they are not decisive like they were in (ugh!) Jericho :)

The video is no different from their standard TW videos (and all other games' videos) which is the point. Or do you think that they will show publishers one version of a game but release another?

And such videos tell more truth about the game than traditional CDP's bullshit that will come in pre-release months. What was shown in the video is awful - it's like they are trying to make their own God of War.

What's up with Geralt's voice, though? He sounds 20 years younger than in the last game...
I hope I missed some notice that states that this is not the final voice...

JFC, how juvenile can we get with talking about the aesthetic appearance of a written language?

That said, it's way too soon to determine its RPGness from one vid designed to peddle their product to a publisher. Honestly, I don't care what it is as long as it nails the Witcher tone and mood.

It's hard to get too worked up over quick time events per se since the whole combat system consists of quick time events (instead of the mouse diagram flashing on the screen it's usually the hearing the swooshy sword flourish sound or seeing the red flaming sword icon).

I think the broader issue is that the devs can't seem to grasp what a worthwhile sword-fighting action game is. I'm not talking about Blade of Darkness here, even Prince of Persia had an overwhelmingly superior system and it was primarily a platformer.

Alright CDP, here are some ground rules:
-You should be able to attempt a parry/dodge by pressing a button
-You should be able to attempt different types of attacks by combining the movement and attack keys
-You should be rewarded for striking someone when their guard is down and penalized for striking when their guard is up

There's all sorts of optional things that you can add like knockdowns, stuns, locational damage, but the whole point is that the player should actually be playing the damn game, not just clicking every x seconds regardless of what's going on.

As a side-note, Gerry in a silky white pony tail is even more effeminate; I'm sure that there are plenty of guys thinking about penetrating Gerry's lilly-white ass after watching that video. But I'm not one of them... I'm not....

Allow me to be the first to say this.

"Assassins of Kings" (presumably about that Witcher Assassin in the ending of the first game) sounds really silly. Oh well, games have changed titles before.

Of course they are going to highlight and hype different aspects of the game to different audiences. The publishers are not the same audience their customers are. It's just common sense. Though I'm sure you'll accuse me of being a fanboy, I'm not using this as justification for the video. I'm just saying we shouldn't rush to judge a game based on a single video that wasn't even meant for public consumption.

Obviously you can form a basic opinion of the game based on how much you enjoyed the first one, but that leads to my wondering of why you even care enough to bitch about this. You didn't like the Witcher, so it's very unlikely you'd like the sequel, yet somehow I imagine you'll show up in every Witcher 2 thread if only to take a dump all over it, for reasons I can only assume are related to chronic boredom.

No. Poles were first to crack it's code in 1932. Then work of polish cryptologues ( Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki i Henryk Zygalski) was used for further work on decrypting it's more advanced versions, first in Poland, than in France & GB.

"sz" in Polish - "sch" in German
"cz" in Polish - "tsch" in German

No, the regular combat is a rhythm game, not a QTE. It's funny though that they actually added in what many people falsely accused them of having in the first game's combat system. Now they've combined my two least favorite gameplay mechanics into one.
