I'm not gonna even bother explaining to you why you shouldn't buy the game. It's just stupid, and we'll leave it at that. I paid 3 euros for this shit yesterday when it was on sale and oh boy do I hate myself for doing so.

I paid 20 euros. Clunky, not funny, interesting or fun. Avoid.

If anyone says that Germans are not funny, this game proves them right. Completely. THe humor is painfull. I love it.

Apart from the """comedy""" aspect, the gameplay is pretty ass. There is no unit customisation, better equipment are always strictly upgrades and there is no skill tree. You can't even choose the units you take to a battle, cutting the last baseline of strategy left in such a game.
The difficulty on hard is brutally high, to the point you need flawless execution. Sounds enticing, but you can save between every single attack and scum until you hit, and it seems hard is designed around doing that in the early game, which certainly is a questionable choice.
The coding is beyond ass. Sometimes units just do not join combat, or you take multiple turns in a row for no discernable reason other than the engine spazzing out. It is not that bad, since you can quicksave always so it doesn't cost you a fight, but it sometimes wins you one which feels undeserved aswell.

So why play this game at all? The makers of it obviously love rpgs. The holy avatar is such a shameless jab at Ultima, and the game is chock full with rpg references of varying cleverness, which definitly give it some soul. Also it is clearly interlinked with German nerd culture, the main character gave me Rufus from Deponia vibes. That gave it enough soul for me to not regret my purchase.
I will even go and play Grotesque Tactics 2, as Darth Canoli makes it sound like that game is all around superior.
I wouldn't recommend these games to anyone, they are awfull, I love them.

The first was really buggy for me.
The second adds a lot of optional quests (don't expect Prelude to Darkness quest design) and the combat is quite satisfying.

When one run out of "best tactical games", Grotesque Tactics 2 is not a bad option.
I particularly like the giant bosses, optional quests/secrets and the hard combat on hardest mode.

The second one was ok from what i remember, both of them were edgy and i remember that the combat was fine. But i played them 10 years ago.
