Gujian 1 has an unofficial English translation, and I was actually considering buying it. But even though I love Wuxia, I don't like JRPGs much.

The translation isn't released yet as far as I know, and seems to be in a strange limbo right now despite the fact they seemed to be making good progress on it. (Unfounded?) Concerns about the reaction from the developer appears to be what has halted its release and progress.

If you don't like JRPGs, then Gujian 1 wouldn't be for you. It's way more JRPG-ish than Gujian 3, for example.

Played it for a bit, the battle system is good, certainly plays better than something like Witcher 3, although I wouldn't call it the best thing ever since it doesn't really hold to something like Kingdom Hearts 2, the platforming is also very clunky. The writing is good, although the dialogs are sometimes melodramatic and overstretched the overall quality of it shits on 90% of what we get from the western media nowadays. The graphics are excellent - character models are detailed, the lightning engine is good, area level of detail is also good although the drawing distance for grass and smaller objects is lacking in my opinion. All in all a very solid game. Came literally out of nowhere to a really pleasant suprise for me.

Unfortunately succumbed to purchasing 1 day after Steam sale ends

The English for this game is good, right?

This has finally been proper cracked for anyone interested in playing it without the retarded "server side saves" bullshit DRM that made this game worthless before.

I gave Gujian 3 a spin recently and here are my random thoughts about:

- the game is stunningly beautiful - towns, architecture, landscapes, even flowers, all look great; the graphic department certainly delivered
- animations? not so much; animations are stiff and mocap isn't the greatest I've seen, but after few hours in I got used to it and stopped noticing
- animals look funny
- story is different enough to be engaging; it's not your another WRPG or JRPG story, but it's not too alien, you can easily relate to
- companions/party members are ok - I liked slower pace at which relationships between main hero and other party members build; they are no BioWare style companions, they have their own agendas and are not completely player-dependant
- combat is uneven; the are a lot of trash fights with demons (which oddly look like DAO demons, yuk), but there are also cleverly designed bossfights that gave me challenge.
- there are tons of cutscenes - there are places where you can't take more than a few steps to be sucked into another one
- side quests are forgettable and not mandatory - you'll lose nothing if you don't do them; most of them are fetch quest, but sometimes you have to play the card game or catch a fish
- minigames - the card game is pretty and I liked it a lot; it's not Gwent level of quality and it's more random, but I lost many hours in; this is also the place where previous games are nodded to the most; I also liked fishing very much
- base menagement... it's just there and I can't say nothing more

tl;dr - decent game for 10€, nice worldbuilding, likeable NPCs, okayish to decent combat, good minigames, linear story, no C&C, must have if you like wuxia movies or just want something different than your usual WRPGs and JRPGs.

I just want to thank the OP for pointing this game out. It's exciting to hear about non-English games!

Have people discovered ways to circumvent the save game thing?
