The Eighth Console Genration is almost over, yes. When the PS5/Xbox One release then we enter the Ninth Console Generation, because Nintendo has since just gone and done its own thing and there are no other competitors left to count.

At this point yes the only reason we even count generations is just for the next Xbox or Playstation.

The next gen will be defined by the application of deep fake technology to games. But it won't start out that way.
