I know who you mean, that dude with 4 letter name, last name like an animal and that neckbeard beta face with glasses.

The fuck was his name again.

Edit: Ah, yes, Phil Fish!

I pirated one of his games once. I remember using a keygen and it worked like a charm.

PS: I abandoned it halfway through.

How the fuck does he make money with this.

Just how

Cheap artists, re-using assets from previous games, buying cheap assets from asset stores, re-using old code from previous games.
He said it himself in a talk that each new game is the same as his previous game but maybe with 20% more content in terms of new features.
Then just write a new story to slap on the RPG and bam it's done.

According to one of his gamedev talks a few years back, Vogel says he makes comfortably over six figures a year.
Good for Jeff. I played the hell out of the Exile series.
(the remakes were watered down versions, but still decent)

The Exile games are free on his site and very much worth playing (first one is a bit bare bones, but they improve as the series progresses), though you need to set up an emulator to get them working. They're also pretty good looking games (I believe he and the Realmz guy bought a bunch of assets together that they shared).

Far from it. I have finished Exile: Escape from the Pit at least 100 times and it is a very densely packed game.

Get Windows 3.11 running under DosBox and run the game under it. It is still an amazing game today and looks good with both old and new sprites.

There are remakes of the Exile series????

By the way, no need to set any emulators, just get the easy install versions from old-games.com, they run on win10 without any issues. You'll have to deal with the shitty bandwidth tho, so be prepared to leave them an entire afternoon downloading.

Compared to Exile II and III it definitely felt like there was less content. For instance, IIRC the first enemy fortress in Exile I you usually come across gets mentioned by one of the characters in town, you go there and have a pretty straightforward fight, and if you go back to the character and mention the fort there's no recognition you cleared it. In Exile II a character gives you an explicit quest with a reward to wipe out the nephilim fort, but warns you of their heavily guarded front door. As you head out a group of nephilim storm the base and attack. After you and the guards take them out, you can discover a map the leader dropped that suggests that there's a back entrance to the fort you can take to avoid the defenses in front. Of course, that path takes you through their graveyard where their dead spring to life and attack you. After you take out the nephilim leader, your deed is acknowledged and you're given a reward.

From what I recall, Exile II and III have much more in the way of involved quests than the first game.
