:what:
It reminds me of playing Arcanum with a low INT character and then attempt to read the journal. Nevertheless, it's obvious it was done to provide "characterization". I like how Mericious interprets the events happening. :)
Hopefully the lack of a Knight character won't make the game too hard for you.

Fun fact: This is over 150MB worth of still images.

This is why updates are slow :decline:

oohh a blank roadsign. Can I read it? Yes? No?

oh. a BLANK roadsign. It just points the way to the next area, in case we manage to get lost or something

2OX4xev.png

I must say, this is a beautiful forest.

Grace's portrait down in the bottom-left hand corner of the screen is flashing, let's click on it.

Noted, thanks Grace!

Current Music: 6. Finding Our Strength

The 146% under the monster is its current damage reduction. It spikes upwards whenever a given combatant gets hit with an attack, then quickly falls back down to 100%. I should probably stagger my attacks accordingly.

I haven't been showing the tutorial popups until now, but right now I am being proven a lier :argh:

HRuCZUQ.png

V8pRNvB.png

whatever i think we can handle a couple of slimes damage multiplier or no

I try having Grace alternate between Flashbang and Smokescreen. Constantly having to click to switch between the two is annoying.

This is what smokescreen looks like:

mQurL9i.png

Not shown: The 30% dodge chance that smokescreen gives to our foes

Strangely enough, the two slimes we are fighting have two different names:

qhIjFik.png

klvjPdj.png

...However, they are still slimes with a different name, so they don't put up a whole lot of a fight even on hard.

XNM3X3d.png

i5ppBWf.png

Gee, won't it be nice if I didn't have to constantly click to switch between Flashbang and Smokescreen. That is what skill chains are for!

The game has a few simple ones made already. I won't be using the ones the game made, so I delete all of them.

lTz3QEV.png

Our skill chain will use smokescreen first, then flashbang, then loop back to smokescreen. It's that simple. You get no specific bonuses for skill chains, but it saves you a lot of clicking.

I think I'll call it "Supression".

1gDVTDh.png

Hopefully the game will toss a proper fight at us before the chapter is done. Maybe if we take ten steps to the right we will find one.

v2gFNTO.png

Whoa okay this is not the kind of fight I had in mind

Chapter 2, which you'll reach very soon, is hopefully more interesting. The battles grow difficult, and you'll probably have to cover them with more than 1-2 screenshots/sentences for them to make sense.

"Impossible" may be a better description of the battles, really, if you don't know what you're doing.

Oh, and there's a nice wall of text at the end of that chapter. If the previous wall was 10 000 words, this one will be 50 000 words.

(I just picked up the game thanks to this thread. Will be watching.)

Our next opponent is a trio of slimes. Not much of a fight, really.

el8sMdP.png

BDcZ1fc.png

SPMGKGc.png

...And then I run into something that is not a slime. This is Hard difficulty, so everything quickly goes wrong and is horrible forever

5kpp5kW.png

...Any physical damage (not magical!) he takes will come out of the green number before the red one....

Guess what takes me half of the battle to realize. You may of already noticed that Mericious is missing a lot of HP...

BkZOgKo.png

This is Magic Bullet in action. It is not as effective as I remembered it being :argh:

jGvx0Le.png

25 seconds later, Mericious gets back up on his feet. However, I forgot that he is currently using Strike, which is a melee attack and by nature requires him to run in front of the party just long enough to get hit again.

Can any of you spot exactly where he fell?

DMAFtg8.png

Now we are down a party member, and the other two are at half health.

Worse part is that infernal firefly will get back up again in 25 seconds if I don't finish off the other two slimes quick.

3zer6U5.png

Having spotted my mistake I tell Mericious to use Wrath instead once he re-revives. It is at that exact moment that Grace's smoke screen wears off at exactly the wrong time.

pOvzVDv.png

Fortunately, the monsters aren't in any better shape.

The battle ends suddenly as all battles do. One moment you are struggling to not die then bam you get the final blow on the last enemy before the other ones revive and it is over.

YRc9TWQ.png

mKCxexg.png

None of this would if happened had I known the fireflies did magical damage! :argh:

I'm not sure if you mentioned it already, but do characters regenerate their HP outside of combat? I assume the answer is "no" by default.

I am looking forward to showing the nonsense that happens in chapter 2 in particular.

Although given how the save points work in this game the editing will be :decline:

Fully recovery after each and every battle. Later on we will be fighting several battles one right after another.

Notice that this party completely lacks the "rebel youth" mindset most JRPG heroes do. This isn't by accident.

This, of course, does not mean that all of their solutions are sane.

Considering there are 70+ years old swordmen running around and priests don't even have puny pistols, I believe that's precisely the case. It can make an interesting story if it is used well.

They wouldn't be heroes if they were sane. Still, a legit, non-evil nor accidental demon-worshipper Christian priest is a really exotic example of a jrpg hero.:M

In case anyone cares, each of the characters have ten skills total.

All the knights have the same ten skills, but the musketeers and priests have a pool of 11 skills to choose from. That is, each of them is missing one skill.

The variable skills for the musketeers are: Explosive Shell, High Fire, and Powder Imps.

Ionae has High Fire and Powder Imps, and is missing Explosive Shell.
Charlotte gets Explosive Shell and Powder Imps.
Grace gets Explosive Shell and High Fire.

For the priests: Damn, Staggering Blow, Trick

Mericious has Damn and Trick, but lacks Staggering Blow.
Pyanpau gets Staggering Blow and Trick.
Enshadu gets Damn and Staggering Blow.

Damn is surprisingly useful IMO. The others feel a bit weak.

Your characters will have unlocked all skills by the time you reach Underport. The order they unlock in is different for each character (including the knights).
