Yeah it's amazing how well they've made these new faction castles and units look like they were part of the original game as if the original artists did it themselves. Very good work!

I still haven't got around to trying HotA and VCMI but I've been following their progress for years. Will get to them one day lol!

Codex 2016 - The Age of Grimoire Grab the Codex by the pussy RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Shadorwun: Hong Kong Divinity: Original Sin 2 Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Bros, I'm thinking of giving HotA a shot, but it looks to me like it comes pre-packaged with the HD mod and I hate how it makes the game look. Any way to play hota without the hd shit?

Eh? The HD mod just allows widescreen play. It isn't the same as the awful UBI HD "remaster" cashgrab that changed all the assets.

You can run HD mod however you like, including the native res. It has a lot of 101% genuine qol, like inventory/army transfer under one click. Literally no point playing without it, unless autistic and/or super edgy.

I'm quite sure multiplayer community is what's driving the continuous development of this over 20yo game and is slightly bigger than 3 people, so you might be onto something.

Oh, I also agree about the pop ups, like the little stories about artifacts - I miss those, too. Other than that, just run it in native res and you're good.

Mucked about in hota for a bit, beat the first campaign. Is actually pretty gud. Some of the changes are just there to be different, as is to be expected from modders, but surprisingly, most of the new stuff actually improves the overall experience (finally, no more savescumming around the witches' huts). The new sprites (and the ones from homm2) fit right in and don't look like an eyesore. The Cove town music is great. All in all - good times, translation notwithstanding.

Gets better once you realise how much the campaigns lift from MM VI - VIII.
