Baldur's Gate How far (level wise) did you reach in your first BG3 honor mode run?

Which level your first char was when he died?

Just curious. I want to read about the runs of other people and how they eventually lost their character.

In my case, I played with this mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/baldursgate3/mods/5328), which is a P&P conversion of a blood mage, and in the middle of Act 2, at level 8 , at Sharn's temple, I missed the Gale magical nuke and killed myself. Screenshot bellow.

I also had some "close calls." Eg., in Act 1, I almost got killed by the giantic spider. The hag was a quite tense fight; I avoided any serious optional enemy like in the forge, and the "lantern spider" in Act 2 almost made me lose my party[/ISPOILER]

"Honor mode" is when your character disappears after the first death, right? Why would I do that? You mean, if my character is dead, I have to replay this shit from the beginning? Lol.

No, you can keep playing, but you won't get the "finished game in honor mode without dying" cheevo. It also adds other stuff.

Hm, ok. Looks pretty clever, I didn't know that.

-> creates buggy game in notoriously buggy genre

-> hell yeah let's slap ironman mode on it

I got to the end of the Shar temple before I glitched out by falling into nothing, died and the game was like you suck. ROFL.

honor mode ends if the entire party gets wiped, unless your xbox gets shut off by accident before that happens, which happened to me several times.

I think I was about level 4 or 5. Died to the hag. Mind you I was going in blind having only played a little before. Had a great time even after that, to me honor mode should be the default difficulty. I dropped the game somewhere in act 2 to revisit older RPGs I haven't yet completed.

I played for two days on super-easy mode and still managed to die about 30 times.

In my opinion video-games are just skimming the surface when it comes to easy mode.

In the future I expect they'll be 60 easy modes, each easier than the last.

I may even play Dark Souls.

I finished the game without dying on my first honor mode run. I had already finished it on tactician and had metagaming knowledge though.

I also cheesed some fights with barrelmancy - e.g: blew up Minthara and Dror without having to fight them, rigged the soul pillars with smokepowder before fighting Raphael, etc

I died escaping the Nautiloid in my first Honour Mode run because I was determined to kill Zhalk or die trying. On the next run I died to the intellect devourers because I accidentally started fighting them solo and on the one after than I completed the Honour Mode run successfully. I think if I'd had an Act 2 or 3 Honour Mode death I would have quit trying for Honour Mode altogether to be honest, I'm far too easily frustrated.

I can see the future now. A developer video featuring a purple haired transexual in a wheelchair telling everyone how excited they are to introduce 60 new inclusive easy mode difficulties for their upcoming rpg

If you decide to play in Honor mode, you must know that any mistake don't matter how shitty is or bad roll can end your run, don't matter if you invested 100 hours on it. I only play this types of games in Iron Man or Honor mode once, to see how far I can do.

The exception to it is DDO. I reached lv 13 in my first hardcore league and play every hardcore league at least once.

The best way to role-play is on super-easy mode. Then you can build a character around charisma, intelligence, whatever —— all without dying every 5 minutes.

This is assuming that you're playing a game that's not just combat.

I'm really unsure about doing an honour mode run. I'm almost 300 hours into a tactician playthrough and I haven't had too many deaths (except to that Drider, that thing was like grinding a souls boss) But this game is so fucking long. I don't want to put months into an attempt to lose it because I do something hair brained in act 3. Ironman runs would be cool if this game was 1/3 the length it is.

I'd have loved it if they added an ironman roguelike mode like Kingmaker did, so I could try different parties and builds. But holy crap this game is long and Act 3 is an absolute slog. I hit level 12 weeks ago and it just won't fucking end. Not sure I could even force myself to complete it again, let alone on ironman.

My wizard is very effective in combat and he's an intelligence build. A sorceror is a charisma build. You don't need to make a sub-optimal build to be able to role play. Plus you can ace all the dialogue checks with guidance and frienship cantrip, and the game is constantly throwing inspiration points at you, so if you somehow fail a check you can just re-roll it. Skill checks in this game are almost meaningless TBH.

that's why I just started using a mod that makes everyone level 12 at the start, so every replay doesn't require spending hours scrapping the bottom of the barrel for exp. I justify this by telling myself I already beat HM fair and square!

I'm giving it a go. So far I'm having a much easier time than in my first playthrough. I just got through Creche Y'llek and entered the Shadow Cursed lands. The Drider was something I was genuinely worried would end my run but I actually managed to handle it pretty easily. Currently level 7. I'm playing a halfling thief (good aligned dark urge) with high charisma and the lucky feat. I'm crushing all the dialogue checks and we're swimming in items and gold from all the stealing.

The rest of the party is pretty conventional. Gale is evoker wizard, Shadowheart is a Dex/fth life domain cleric wielding phalar aluve (I gave her weapon master). Karlach is a tiger heart barbarian (aspect of the tiger). She has BOOOAL's benediction from sacrificing Wyll so she gets advantage and double strength modifier to hit when she procs bleed with her tiger move. When she hits level 8 and gets great weapon master that's basically free usage of all in. Laezel is champion fighter and I give her everything I find that adds damage dice. She's got mobile and she'll be getting savage attacker later. Astarion is my only multiclass build. I put him in gloomstalker ranger, bounty hunter, urban tracker because it suits his backstory but I don't like the class after level 5 so I'm giving him 3 levels of assasin and 4 levels of champion fighter. He's going to do a lot of attacks in round 1 if he lives to finish his build.

I think you'll
miss out on content involving Wyll's father as a result of this. Unless sacrificing him has the same effect as my mercy-killing him following his partial demonic transformation, after it was he was revealed he was under contract to a devil in addition to suffering the same illithid-tadpole-in-brain as the rest of the party, which caused his corpse to appear in camp throughout the party's journey until I eventually resurrected him near the end of Act II
due to the re-appearance of his patron devil, who was in need of rescue and subsequently revoked her pact with Wyll.

The quest to save his father is still active. Everyone else is acting as if he simply never existed. His devil is probably just gone from the game. In my first playthrough I saved his father without Mizora's help so its probably possible to rescue him without Wyll. But I really don't care. I saw his whole quest in my first playthrough and got the optimal outcome already.

I'd rather have the bleed buff on my barb and my rogue. There's a sword later that lets you trigger bleeding with "challenge to duel" weapon action. He's going to use that to give himself advantage (and a sneak attack), so its a really good buff for two party members. Wyll is a cool guy but he's a warlock and it wouldn't make any sense to respec him into anything else. I just don't need a warlock in my party, I've got the greatest wizard who ever lived.

I think they fixed that, but yeah I've read multiple comments from people who lost honour playthroughs from bugs and glitches

Missing out on Wyll content? Nooo anything but that!
