How so? The buttons system is just an upgraded brofist only system. The result is the same - you have a counter that says how many good boi points you have, except you can't even exchange them for tendies.
Because there's all kinds of ratings that people might want, and they each have different meanings. This equals a greater diversity of content, as opposed to the brofist which only results in people posting things that others would agree with/'like'.

The only thing the different ratings achieve is that people will be afraid of negative ratings besides hunting for brofists. That only increases the likelihood of people agreeing with the popular opinion for gbps. If you want diversity of content you have to get rid of the rating system completely.

Not arguing in favour of a rating system but plenty of people around here weren't 'afraid' of negative ratings, and some revelled in them.

More so given that few of them were unambiguously positive/negative.

The rating system does the exact opposite, actually. Since there are so many ratings, they become relatively meaningless in the bigger context which makes it rather pointless to farm this or that rating. With a single currency, people are encouraged to post stuff with the sole purpose of acquiring precious endorphines.

As much as I keep reaching to use them, I'm happy to see them gone. People relied on them too much.

Besides, some people actively farmed for other kinds of ratings. For example, TemplarGR and Roque actively farmed for retard-ratings.

Ratings are totally gay.

This site acquired its reputation long before even the brofist rating was introduced. Since 2012 only newfags have registered who contribute absolutely nothing to the fight against decline, but instead engage in meaningless political infights and and incite a popularity contest.

To prevent this site sinking completely into irrelevance I suggest 2 last minute measures:

1. remove ratings altogether, thereby preventing members who only used ratings (eg asfasdf)
2. screen every post-2012 registree if they ever posted anything gaming related

This is an internet forum, not a popularity contest.

Fuck these shitty buttons if half of them are withheld from those who haven't "equipped the ring". If you have to bring them back, then at least give every button to everyone.
