I never realized 1up and Ugo were the same company as IGN. Not surprising now that I hear it, though.

Not really surprising to see GameSpy and Ugo go in particular. They used to be competitors with one another as well as IGN, but since they were bought up the brands were doing nothing except collecting dust. Only sad thing is Ugo's prodigious history, however from what I know most of the best sites under that banner were affiliates and not actually owned by Ugo.

I hope Jessica Chobot got fired so she can focus on hardcore porn. Maybe a movie called "cocksucking game journalist" would make some sucess with the nerd crowd
Wasn't that basically her job anyway? I mean, she got hired at IGN thanks to what was basically a softcore pornographic image and they have never hidden what her role was at the company.

You didn't express an opinion (fucking christ. people cannot into rhetoric); you just bawwed "oh noes, it can only get worse from here." Address the issue with something more tangible than tears over some lone righteous straggler having to find a job. Make it count.

Borderline incomprehensible replies like this one should serve as a reminder why we still need professional writers.

My point stands: I enjoyed reading the work of people who did not learn to write on Twitter. But I guess for some, that's actually a downside.

GameBanshee was never owned or even affiliated with UGO, GB just used the ad network. Switched to another network like a year ago, one that does interstitials and pays as well as you can get paid in gaming ads. Codex should consider switching over since it's apparently impossible to monetize this site.

But ad topics aside, I can't say I feel the videogame journalism world would improve if GameBanshee were to go bankrupt.

Last I checked, the number of problematic ads on that one was high and there was no direct control over them. We spoil our visitors by giving them the option to complain about bad ads and actually remove them as soon as they're spotted and identified, so that wouldn't fly.

Incidentally, if anyone knows of any decent websites affected by this that would need hosting, point them my way...

she was already phased out and replaced with a younger hotter blonde, that would have hurt a million times more than getting laid off

You thinking that's incomprehensible merely proves your inability to comprehend, and conveniently eradicates any judgment of where people "learned to write".

This is so awesome! Lol, suck-it-down paid-off journal sites! Suck down the multi-headed gamer penis. Fuck you! All of the people involved deserve to be out of work for violating simple ethical standards. They can rot. Fuck them!

An update on the Doomworld situation:

Kotaku's recent report of Ziff Davis's purchase of IGN has recently caused a bit of a stir amongst Doomworld members considering the ugly UGO logo that used to grace the upper-right corner of every page on this site. Be assured that Doomworld's parent entity, AtomicGamer, has not been in a relationship with UGO for the past two years. Therefore, this news will have zero impact on the future of this site. Thanks for your concern.

CivFanatics uses Atomic Gamer for Mod hosting so that's safe as :) well...

Come to think of it, does UGO even do file hosting anymore?

I just did a search and it turned up nothing...

Borderline incomprehensible.

For instance, when you so eloquently said:

You didn't express an opinion (fucking christ. people cannot into rhetoric); you just bawwed "oh noes, it can only get worse from here."

What you actually meant was:

Shit, I got caught shooting down dissenting opinions. Hey, I know! I'll just randomly decide those weren't opinions.

Problem solved, right?

For those just tuning in, this guy champions the concept of a free exchange of ideas and opinions, trashes everyone who disagrees with him, then, when caught, tries to defend himself by arbitrarily deciding said people don't have real opinions.

The cognitive dissonance is strong in this one.

Shill "gaming journalism" sites being shut down? :incline:

Not that it matters, there are plenty more where they came from.

Resurgence of classic cRPGs and demise of Bioware and incompetent gaming "journalism" websites? There is not much more a Codexer could ask for.

I enjoy observing the shills at work in their natural environment from time to time, dutifully fellating the publishers who pay them to run advertisements. The sight of professional failures producing biased rubbish rife with grammatical and syntactical errors and laden with unwarranted flowery adjectives is more amusing than infuriating... they actually believe they're respectable journalists with real jobs.

The comments are the best, though:

Eurogamer: Game X = 9/10 (full-screen header and margin ads for Game X dominating the webpage)
Commenter: "oi guv 'at's luvvly 'at is, day one purchase mate!!!"

All we need as consumers/customers is Demos and RPG codex.

For RPGs, perhaps. If I ever had any expectations of discussing aircraft simulations, racing simulations or competitive arena shooters (for example) with the Codex, they evaporated long ago.

On the other hand, "gaming journalists" don't really review games from those genres either, and they each have their own dedicated communities populated by knowledgeable non-retards, so that's fine.

Nono. You are a dumbass regardless of that.

An amusing sentiment coming from a contrarian imbecile who blurts out the dumbest shit imaginable in pretty much every thread he participates in, such as typing "RPG Codex" but meaning something else, insulting another poster for absolutely no discernable reason, or defending a shitty, baseless opinion from ten different people all trying to hammer some common sense into that thick skull of yours.

Never change, Shrek. Someday you'll be the #1 most ignored poster on the Codex—although of course that'll just be because people are mad that you're so much smarter than them.

I'm sure she would be a journalist if instead the drama was "lol games hosting/entertaining" and not "lol games journalism".

Listen, dick, when you contribute 1/100 of what Jessica Chobot has contributed to gaming culture, you can talk.
