Based on the world of some Polish sci-fi novel Interregnum. Developer Spacewalkers is also Polish studio and made a VR game set in the same world and tiny game for charity Ukraine Defense Force Tactics.

Interregnum Chronicles: False Prophet is a tactical, turn-based strategy game about survival in a post-apocalyptic world of eternal winter.

An extraterrestrial mind-virus has struck the Earth, killing 95% of humanity while the poles have shifted and the world is plunged into a new ice age. Lead a group of survivors as the titular False Prophet to a promised land - a lie manufactured in a desperate bid to save your lost child. Find out if goals do justify the means, and what a desperate parent is willing to do to save their child.

This is the second entry in a series of games which tell the story of the Interregnum and its aftermath, based on the world created by Przemysław Karda.

Gameplay

Fight for your life in turn-based tactical battles against desperate survivors like you. Use suppression and flanking to outsmart and outmaneuver your enemies. Experience a realistic depiction of a firefight in which suppression plays a key role.

Survive the biting cold and ever-present hunger. Scavenge resources while trudging through frozen wastes of California. Loot, craft, and make the best of what you find.

Explore alien anomalies and extraterrestrial phenomena that transcend human understanding. Alien civilizations fight over Earth with no regards to its human inhabitants. Their struggle is completely beyond human understanding as it warps the very structure of reality.

Recruit survivors to your cause. The people you meet often have their own quests - how far will you go to convert them to your cause? The sick and the children are unable to work - will you leave them to die or make them part of your pilgrimage?

Manage your caravan and the people that follow you. Their survival is in your hands, but if they lose faith they might just replace you. Launch expeditions to gather resources, divide the workforce, and guide your flock. The survival of the group will require sacrifices.

Features

Tactical Combat
Turn-based tactical combat with emphasis on realistic depiction of firefights. Suppression plays a key role as every shot drains the Action Points of its target and those nearby. Defeating enemies requires smart use of the fire and maneuver tactic. Your characters can have an array of special abilities that allow them to manipulate the battlefield - change turn order, transfer Action Points or mitigate the effects of suppression.

Deep Survival Mechanics
Managing warmth, hunger, and fatigue of your characters is as important as winning battles. Rationing food and deciding when and how to establish a campsite will be crucial to survival in the harsh environment of a post-apocalyptic winter. Choosing what your characters wear affects how fast they lose warmth, and must be balanced with gear that protects them in combat.

Original Story
The world of Interregnum is an original setting in which extraterrestrial beings are completely beyond any human. In this post-apocalyptic world, ordinary people are fighting for survival while the very structure of reality is being torn apart by a struggle beyond their understanding.

False Prophet Development Log: CHALLENGES
WELCOME TO THE DEVLOG!

On a regular basis, we’ll be making posts here that reveal the game’s mechanics and give you a glimpse into the post-apocalyptic world of the Interregnum! As always, we’d love to hear what you think, and answer any questions you have… as long as they don’t constitute spoilers, of course!

So sit back and enjoy as we start off with…

CHALLENGES

In the ruined world of the Interregnum, the laws of both civilization and nature have been savagely shattered. The few survivors are bled dry on the shards, pushed to their limits each and every day. When they’re not fighting over what’s left of their near-future society, they face fateful struggles in the form of Challenges.

These can be scavenging from a particularly tricky locale, braving some kind of danger, trying to save a fellow survivor’s life… if there’s uncertainty involved in an action, it’s a Challenge!

CewlMkC.jpg

esWnimL.png

During event dialogues, options marked by the icon of a D20 will lead to Challenges. These correspond to one of the six primary statistics:

  • Strength: Challenges requiring exertion or violence.
  • Agility: Challenges concerning speed, precision, or stealth.
  • Endurance: Challenges in hostile conditions, or amidst other sources of constant stress.
  • Intelligence: Challenges involving deduction, perception, plans, or technology.
  • Willpower: Challenges where survivors must assert themselves– or face their fears.
  • Charisma: Challenges involving negotiation with other survivors.

pvg0avT.gif

You choose which of your allies will attempt the Challenge, and their corresponding stat value will be added to a dieroll to determine success or failure. Choose wisely, however; it may seem logical to rely upon a single skilled ally, but each attempt incurs fatigue, and the one attempting the Challenge will bear the brunt of failure. You may instead wish to put forward someone less experienced… or someone more expendable.

8ifzy34.png

Success in Challenges brings additional rewards, while Failure results in penalties– which vary from light to punishing. Sometimes you simply miss out on what success would’ve granted. Other times, you risk the well-being of the ally attempting the Challenge, or that of the entire group.

At the very least, attempting the Challenge will train the relevant stat, so even failure can bear fruit.

DfWrpxz.png

Yet sometimes, it can feel like failure is inescapable…

But the False Prophet stands above other survivors, set apart for reasons beyond their understanding. Unseen entities watch, and warp the world with their presence. Exposure to impossibilities leaves lingering traces of influence.

Probability bends around you, events shift, and this lets you beat the odds for otherwise impossible Challenges!

By exposing yourself to Anomalies scattered throughout the world, you become charged with Anomalous Essence, which lets you roll additional dice during a Challenge.

GPzf2XH.gif

SlgbghT.gif

Essence used in this way can only be regained by interacting with dangerous Anomalies… as always, the only way to mitigate risk somewhere is to accept it elsewhere.

Still, when it’s the difference between life and death, anything and everything must be taken advantage of. Such is life in the Interregnum.

False Prophet Development Log: SUPPRESSION
SUPPRESSION

The survivors of the Interregnum are not Hollywood juggernauts, striding undaunted into rivers of gunfire that part before their machismo. They’re normal people faced with the reality of combat, not the glamor: each bullet promises death. The only thing better than avoiding one is ensuring the enemy doesn’t get a chance to fire; in other words, Suppression.

76v9Vd0.gif

Attacking a unit on the battlefield will suppress it, whether the attack lands or not. Even if they’re not reeling from pain, combatants flinch from whistling bullets or swinging bats. Cover helps protect against Suppression, but doesn’t eliminate it entirely.

0mml7Zk.gif

Suppression depletes AP (Action Points), which are required for all combat actions. Therefore, if you keep an enemy fully suppressed, they’ll be unable to take action, letting you neutralize a particularly threatening unit, or overwhelm and corner an overextended one.

76b2b70ef67b5702c9b555bbff5c2656eaf9c09f.png

However, the same applies to allied units. If you make reckless tactical decisions, one of your best fighters might end up suppressed under a hail of gunfire. This is only compounded by numbers advantage– more units equals more guns equals more Suppression.

RE3bgiZ.gif

But while you’ll often be outnumbered, you have something your enemies don’t: Tactical Advantage!

dYGUJn4.gif

8750b3ac14cf20fa123245becabe9c8bfcfad3e5.png

As you suppress foes, bonus AP will be stored in the Tactical Advantage gauge, and can be used by any allied unit once their allotted AP for the turn is depleted. Tactical Advantage is a representation of your ability to exploit openings in combat: you can use it to continually fire on enemies, reload in an emergency, radically reposition, or even allow a fully suppressed ally to dash to a more secure location.

9eeeb9448cd9445ddb7612b59d61cf8139766aed.png

Many things in the world of Interregnum interact with Suppression– different weapons will have different Suppression values, and units with high Willpower aren’t easily suppressed. It’s up to you to look out for new ways to attain fire superiority in battle.

Who’s allowed to act and who isn’t is what decides who survives and who dies, so keep Suppression in mind as you go into combat!

I know people are triggered by nigs, but the game looks pretty nice actually. It will probably suck, but maybe not.
People ought to do some fact-checking before they get triggered. As far as I am aware the game takes place in the USA (California), so it shouldn't be all that surprising to see a black character. There are also large concentrations of Asians in California (more than in any other state, in fact), just in case someone gets triggered by that too.

Poles love sucking American dick more then breathing. Depending on the current taste of Murica's dick, Poles change their behaviour. Like Dragonborn and Lydia. Kinda sad, kinda funny :-D

Nigger, you Serbs love sucking rusnigger dick even more. I would refrain from making such comments if I were you. Then again, if I were you I would probably just jump out of the nearest window.

False Prophet Development Log: WANDERING BANDS
WANDERING BANDS

In the wake of the Collapse, the mysterious global catastrophe that kicked off the Interregnum, a vast majority of Earth’s population disappeared without a trace. The world is a quiet place, now. But that doesn’t mean the Prophet is alone when they embark on expeditions. They might encounter Wandering Bands.

Q9QOGPl.jpeg

As you travel the world of the Interregnum, you will see other roaming bands like yours, walking the roads, making their way in the wilderness, or resting in what they think is a safe locale. They belong to distinct factions– they may be normal survivors like you, marauding bandits, or ruthless remnants of the US Army.

XvdhjWF.jpeg

When a wandering band picks up your tracks, they’ll react to them. Some may flee your presence, but others will cease roaming and begin pursuing you. If you don’t want pursuers, it’s best to stay off the roads, out of sight in more difficult terrain. You may be able to shake the pursuit, but if they get too close, you’ll have to succeed at a Challenge to avoid confrontation.

mncRdKK.jpeg

But perhaps you don’t want to avoid confrontation?

Besides the obvious option of combat, you also have the opportunity to negotiate with wandering bands! A peaceful encounter might leave you both in better condition, or allow you to recruit them as new followers for your caravan.

5JGxhhm.jpeg

However, your ability to negotiate is impacted by the band’s condition and hostility. A hale group may not be so easily swayed by gifts, and hostile groups may not give you the chance to negotiate at all. Of course, you can take hostile action unprovoked, but beware the consequences.

dtffCyT.jpeg

You can’t affect a group’s condition, but deft negotiation can reduce a group’s hostility towards you, potentially allowing for peaceful conversation with otherwise bloodthirsty bandits or soldiers. Being friendly with them can reveal things you might not have known otherwise.

yFPnBvU.jpeg

Wandering bands are an ever-present, dynamic part of the world of the Interregnum, and should be accounted for whenever you’re on an expedition. It can be difficult looking out for them with your eyes alone, but if you happen to find some advanced technology, you’ll find your capabilities expanded in that regard… in exchange for a new way that tech-savvy foes can track you.

I can buy into blacks being on the squad. People have their reasons. Maybe he's a shoe acquisition specialist hoping to hit up some some Nike shops or outlet stores (Reebok if his luck sucks). Conveniently, California's been turned into a giant freezer pop and is ripe for the looting.

It's not just a racial thing, I could actually believe that. And it would actually be interesting because it's human. Still, wish Burger King kid's club diversity got gassed entirely and Euros stop obsessing over America.

Sure, but only 5% of California's population is black. If anything, the party should be predominantly latino, white, and asian, as those are the three biggest demographics.

Not that it really matters... any random sampling of individuals as you might find in a group or party is hardly going to perfectly reflect the demographics of the greater state. Still, the overrepresentation of black people in modern media is pretty blatant since George Floyd and correspondingly hard to ignore.

(I still think the game looks decent.)

True. But since it is the USA, which has 12% of black population in total, seeing a black man (or woman) is to be expected. It would've been much more eyebrow-rising to see black people in Central or Eastern Europe, even in our modern times. Your best bet - statistically speaking - is France, where 5-8% of the population is black.

I myself am rolling my eyes everytime I see "equal representation" or races. It is just hard to not see it as political correctness after all the bullshit the SJW party pulled in the past. That said, I do remember that one of my favourite games, Gangsters: Organized Crime (1998), had a plenty of women and black people as gangsters and nobody really minded it, because back then there was no political agenda to annoy people with and everybody knew this was the result of random generation. But if we were to transport Gangsters: Organized Crime into 2024, I would totally see this as yet another attempt at "equal representation". Evenmoreso considering when you're looking at the cover of Empire of Sin. The poison has done its job and the idiots who keep pushing the agenda probably don't even realize they are working against themselves by now when even a fairly liberal guy like myself is sick of it.

"Diversity" doesn't have to be politically motivated - though obviously it often is. It is also a design sensibility. How many red-haired viking warriors have you seen in media? In a "historically grounded" setting they should be at best one in fifty. Instead we generally get an even mix of hair and eye colors, because people think pale muscular dudes with braided red hair are cool, and unique-looking actors stand out and get more work. You rarely see people calling the motives of the casting agents into question when that happens. Or look at any given anime, if you prefer: do they give the characters wildly different body types and nonsensical hair/eye colors that don't exist in nature as part of some sinister Moreauvian chimeric agenda? No, they do it because making a show with a dozen nigh-identical slim black haired/eyed characters would be dull.

You said it yourself - it doesn't have to be politically motivated, but it often is. Such is the time we live in.

No, they do it because making a show with a dozen nigh-identical slim black haired/eyed characters would be dull.
It's not the same thing though. There is a difference between unleashing your creative freedom in designing wild characters and fulfilling political quotas because suddenly everyone has to be equally represented in everything, even if the time and place is not proper for that.

False Prophet Development Log: EXPEDITIONS
EXPEDITIONS

In the age of the Interregnum, many social structures that people had grown reliant on have ceased to function, the most vital of which being transportation. Due to the extreme conditions of the outside world, vehicles that can still function are few and far between. Most groups have no choice but to travel on foot.

And when walking through a cold, dead world, the question of how to survive is a constant concern. The only way to get anywhere is with a carefully planned Expedition.

1xmeito.png

While on an expedition, you will need to keep track of the needs of your squadmates:

  • Warmth: The clothes each squadmate wears determines the temperatures they can endure. Insufficient coverage may result in freezing and sickness, especially when weather conditions intensify…
  • Hunger: Everyone requires sustenance. Without food, starvation ensues.
  • Fatigue: The longer and harder your expedition marches, the more tired they become. A wide range of other actions also increase fatigue, including attempting Challenges.

Failing to keep these needs in check will result in the loss of squadmate Health and Morale. A squadmate who loses all their Health will be left teetering on the edge of death, while a squadmate at critically low Morale may lose confidence in your leadership and leave the expedition forever.

H0g4H6r.png

With so few people remaining in the world that can serve as allies, it is imperative to keep your squadmates alive if you want to reach the end of your journey. And the first step to meeting their needs is having the resources to do so.

TX11qF4.png

The main places left to procure resources are the buildings abandoned in the wake of the Interregnum. Each type of building offers different resources– don’t expect to find guns at a grocery store, for example.

fUzQTaG.png

It takes time to loot buildings, but you can choose to loot them recklessly as well… but that increases the likelihood of harmful accidents, and causes you to leave tracks that can be followed by Wandering Bands.

uFCdNgU.png

Of course, if you don’t mind preying on your fellow survivors, being followed might not be a problem for you…

3Mce1AO.png

Looting is your primary way of gathering equipment, making your squadmates more resilient, and restocking on weapons and ammo. Don’t neglect it!

qoRAAK9.png

When the needs your expedition need to be met, the best way to use your gathered resources is to build camp. In camp, you can add food to the pot, and flammable items (including unused clothes) to the bonfire.

When you rest at camp, time will pass, and hunger will be reduced and warmth will be restored evenly to the members of the expedition according to the resources added to the pot and fire, and fatigue will be restored according to the amount of time you decide to rest.

4FbTbJ3.gif

Efficient planning, looting, and camping can extend an expedition and greatly increase your chances of survival… but in the Interregnum, no expedition can go on forever. Looted buildings are forever looted, and your opportunities to replenish resources shrink the more you stay in the same area.

Everything fades. Sooner or later, you'll have to move on.
