Sup guys. What's going on in this thread.

Some new moron coming in to defend Oblivion, FO3, Beth and Bio. Pretty much the same as has been happening for years. The declined codex is lazy and uncreative, though. Instead of pointing out his moronity while creatively flaming him as the codex of old would have done they now just drive him crazy like they drove drog crazy. Effective, but lazy and uncreative.

Yes I am kind of late to the party. I am a classic RPG fan dating back to the early Ultima days on the Commodore 64. While I have been registered here a while I still chuckle at the utter rudeness that goes on here but RPG Codex has developed it's own culture here of whining, elitist CRPGS fans who overly embrace nostalgia. And yet at times I am like this too...

I wonder though, why all the hate for games like Fallout 3, Dragon Age, Oblivion and the like? If someone showed you a glimpse of these games back in 1985 as you waited 5 minutes for Ultima IV to load you would be blown away by everything. And yes, that includes the writing.

Sup fag, even if I loaded these Derpy games back while waiting for Ultima V to load, I would still realize how absolutely atrocious they are.

I think it has become a trend to make fun of or ridicule the writing in a lot of these games. I do agree mostly about the Mass Effect series which I feel is overrated. But have you guys played Oblivion with the overhaul mods? Also, what is to not like about the open-ended nature of walking through Fallout 3, wondering what that next empty triangle location is and what is around the corner? Is it because these games are so mainstream? Is that why we also love Divinty II lately so much? Risen as well?

It's become a trend for Sozzy fags like yourself to like lame games such as Fallout 3 and Oblivion. You're so Sozzy you don't realize the Sozziness of Oblivion, even with 1000 mods.

Look, I know why we all love Arcanum. I love it myself. I also love Gothic 3 tremendously. But Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion and Dragon Age are not bad games.

This make said persons feels comradery between each other because they lack it in their real lives. In most situations, someone would have come into this thread and said "hey guys, enough with calling this guy names". But this does not happen here.

Here, you feel like a man when you call someone a name. And you get bonus points for being as creative as you can. This is without a doubt the worst society on the internet and that says a lot. I just wonder how many of you got your lunch money stolen when you were kids in school. Or which of you is really short, or really "lacking" in other areas if you know what I mean? Yes, this comes down to man's primal urge for competition and hunting. You see a newcomer and it is like fresh meat; you go in for the kill.

In my life I have never been trated like this for an opinion, ever. Not even on a mesage board. Reading back through these pages it is all so clear to me now. This is a territorial thing. You guys know everything there is about RPGs and god forbid someone disagrees with you. You claim you are intelligent yet in a staggering example of irony you do the one thing that unintelligent people do; act like sheep.

What king of a reponse do I expect? Oh well I am sure I will get baked, broiled and flamed. But this is it for me. This is my last post on here. I had some opinions and I think I could have added something to this small forum community. I feel sorry for you guys in many ways.

One last question before I go..

If this was really Drog do you think I would have taken the time at 11:50pm Pacific time to sit down and write something this long? I wrote this because I had many things to say. And if just one of you understands me, I feel it is a victory.

Actually yes, that's what Drog could well do. That doesn't prove you are or you aren't a Drog, but just to say, some of the local trolls go very, very far to try and appear authentic. Frankly I doubt you are a Drog because you've continued to post even after the thread derailed and stopped producing any sort of lulz you could've derived for yourself.


Anyway, as to the rest of the post - let's put it this way. On some forums, you're banned if you don't sing praise for the games being discussed there. People won't call you a cunt, but they certainly will think you are one. Then a nice moderator will come and ban you for several weeks, or forever, depends on which one you'll run into.

Codex in this respect is different. People might in fact be pissed off when someone does sing praise to a game, unless people actually support this song. You won't be banned for making a post that disagrees with the forum's general line of thinking, but it'll give you just enough rope to either make a swing or hang yourself. By making this thread, you chose the hanging.

Honestly, what did you expect? A double-digit poster appears and tells everyone else how to think, what, do you really think that people will cheer and do it? You have a 2009 registration date, so you must have read the forums a little and probably know what happens when a "newfag" talks love about games the Codex officially detests, or at least you should know that this isn't a friendly hand-holding community. Yes, you might not have been treated fairly with the flaming responses, but by making this thread, you just asked for it. You could also try going to Egypt and ask if it's trendy to dislike their former president there, or whether it's trendy for feminists to hate their male oppressors.

Both Bethesda and Bioware are producing exceedingly shitty but inexplicably popular games. They are the ones who are creating the trend by perpetrating this bullshit, not us.

Oblivion was a massive improvement compared to Morrowind. I played for more than 100 hours creating two characters, an archer and a wizard.
Fallout 3 was ok but not as good as Oblivion. You had to visit underground intersections(metro) to gain access to new locations.
Dragon Age was pretty addictive and had a cool story(i liked the part where you negotiated with demons) but the filler combat destroyed this fine game(same thing with the first Drakensang).

Your pespective of an outsider is naive and uninformed, even if you think it is clear-minded. There's a series of causes as to why a game is liked or not. We are an intellectualist community, so we don't discuss about our feelings and first impressions, and we're not about to discuss yours. Try to figure out the arguments and you'll see that it all makes sense. Perhaps there is a bit of hyperbole going on, as you say, but no one except Volourn can't make the distinction between figures of style and content with a minimum of effort. Of course, there's also a fair amount of posters who never post anything worthwhile and spew out the general opinion, but that is needed : it is what makes rpg codex a prestigious magazine, the fact that people are willing to follow its general concenssus... more or less.

For example, to help you a bit here, the reason why games like Fallout 3, Dragon Age, and so on, are not liked, are more than a simple immediate jugement that you, as an ignorant and candid little cunt, can spew out. You have to consider the history of roleplaying games in general, design standards, litterary standards, what is expected, what are the hopes and dissapointments, what is creative, what was done and what could be done better, and so on and so forth. All of this culture is assumed on these forums - without it of course it seems silly, because well shit, everything seems silly to an outsider who doesn't get the context.

Well, to be fair, DrogOP-kun, what did you expect? If you'll go to Bioware or Bethesda boards and proclaim that their games are shitty, you'll get just as flamed as here. Only there would be less swearing, more whining and you'd be banned and/or your tread would get locked. I'd assume that it's a no-brainer.

Every established community has its own beliefs and rules, and newcomers must obey them or be ready for confrontation.

And really, Drog, you should at least try a different approach to creating alts. Most gamers nowadays are aware of cracked.com, 4chan, etc., and their manner of having discussions. Acting so surprised about that is unrealistic.
