Maybe they don't allow outright blatant piracy, especially when done for commercial gain, but in our DOSBox Staging Discord we're dealing with "abandonware" DOS games all the time with zero consequence. So does the eXoDOS Discord, and numerous other emulator and software preservation related Discords.

So I haven't seen this to become problem in practice, and surely there are certain activities that should be rightfully banned.

In general, I'm pretty sure if you don't do obviously very illegal things and criminal activities you're good.

People that abide by the "muh discord rules" are retard thinking discord cares.
You will only have problems if you have a retard public community that gets butt hurt by some reason and mass report the "server", some cease and desist request send to discord mentioning your server, or if you sharing cheese pizza, gore and other related subjects. And even they, it takes time if anything is done at all, given the many fuck up communities that exist and are still on in the platform.

I said it like 10 years ago and I’ll say it again, there are way too many subforums. What is this, reddit? sports can go into GD. Mmo can go into general gaming. Etc.

Also chat needs to be better.

The main website should be integrated better into the forums.

The main issue though is that the world is currently in a bad place and everywhere will reflect that. The dex is not rivendell or some shit.

I started putting the troglodytes on ignore, and it works amazingly well. Most noise is filtered out; occasionally I view the hidden posts, but man, nothing of value is lost 99% of the time. Same with the ratings, all I've "lost" is I don't know where the "cuck" and "retarded" ratings are coming from (well, I know -- from people I wouldn't talk to in real life either).

So yeah, ignore system is great, bookmark system is great, and you can get good recommendations and tips from both oldtimers and new people who are here to discuss games, not just to bitch all day.

Also, never ever click on political and current affair topics; those are idiot-magnets, just like on any other online place. I wouldn't mind if they were ejected, tbh, but then you can simply not go there (better yet, put the whole subforum on ignore).

I still come here after all this time. It's still the only, and I mean, ONLY place I can see, read, learn and occasionally discuss classic cRPGs that I still have a passion for. I enjoy the days I click on the "General RPG" forum and see that the Ultima, Wizardry, Might & Magic, obscure cRPG and other such threads have been posted in. Those old school threads seem to scare off the wanna-be Edge-lords as they'd rather rant & rave about some new slight to their perceived reality whether in gaming or politics or anything other than my favorite classic cRPGs. Let them have those threads (I even occasionally look in and even respond every once in awhile).

I'm glad DarkUnderlord created this, well for lack of better wording, Free Speech Zone on the Interwebz. There are almost no places like the Codex that allows as much crap (both Far Left & Far Right) to be expressed by anyone. He isn't bringing out the Moral Ban-hammer even if he knows what some here say is absolutely off the rails coo-koo crazy/stupid/racist/whatever -ism you can think of! As they say, if you don't want to see that stuff... don't read those threads!

Again, the posts that are really centered around actual discussion of cRPGs tend to avoid that stuff most of the time. Even when it creeps in it's easy to ignore it and keep talking/discussion about the game. Most other cRPG forums talk and discuss newer games (which I mostly dislike) with the Moral Ban-hammer ready to strike at the least wrong-thought expressed. I imagine there are other Interwebz places like the Discord thing mentioned but I don't know those places and am too old to want to learn. I even stay away from all those social media places like Istabook and Facegram. Don't have accounts there and don't care to. The Codex is the place for me. I can discuss what I want to without worrying about censorship and I can ignore all the other crap that just seems like being edgy for edgy's sake.
