I'm not saying it isn't art. I'm saying it not heterosexual art. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I was saying you can't understand art.

I'm sure Tommaso dei Cavalieri would agree.
Doesn't make the David any less masculine.

Sorry LS, David was the better one.

From Jacques-Louis David i tend to like his classical portraits more then i like his neoclassical stuff, which personally i find rather artificial, except for some of his later works i guess.

The point isn't whether or not David is a top or a bottom, it's whether Michaelangelo is the best case to prove that Japanese art is more homosexual than that of the west.

Perhaps something from an artist who doesn't write sonnets to young men?

The David is one of the most masculine pieces of art ever created in that is it the most Apollonian. The perfect plasticity of its form and style have never been matched, let alone surpassed.

You can fawn over his rippling biceps and lovingly carved testicles all you want, it doesn't make it any less homoerotic.

The David is practically an hymn to masculinity. The stance, the hands, the stare, the muscles, the veins...

Clock Tower, Strange Journey, Silent Hill 2, Devil May Cry 3, the Deception games, Devil Survivor, and The World Ends With You are the ones almost everyone likes. Nippon Ichi's games are also good, and they are pretty wacky. I liked Shadow Of Memories, but that's just me.

If you are into japanese myth or occult beliefs check Kuon, but otherwise leave it. I personally love Theresia, though that's mostly a game about wandering a huge creepy complex, solving puzzles, and getting killed by traps that spring from everything you touch. Checked the wrong book? Trap! Moved the chair in the wrong direction? Trap! Opened the wrong door? Trap! Steped on the wrong place? Trap! Etc, etc.

If you are into artsy stuff, Yumme Nikki. If you are into weird shit and really creepy stories, and don't mind lots of misplaced porn to get at it, check some Nitro+ games like Saya No Uta and Chaos;Head. If you are into horror games add The Calling to this list. Hellnight is fun if you can get it, a game where you mostly run around labyrinths solving puzzles and trying not to get slaughtered by an immortal monster that's very obsessed about doing funny things to you.

Is the Legend of Cao Cao japanese? If so, play that one too. At least, try to. That game's hardcore.

Yeah. Masculinity.

David is supposedly cowering in fear facing God.

It's Goliath actually. The statue represents* him before he kills the giant. Did you know male genitals retract somewhat when the male is terrified?

Except codexers ofcourse. We don't get terrified. We get excited.

Edit: * is said to represent. Michelangelo didn't leave helpful instructions for interpretation.

If those are the best there are then Jap gaming is indeed irredeemable shit. Oh well, bias #28305 confirmed.

Good gameplay and/or story, i don't give a give a shit about art. But when it comes to mediocre games, I tend to discriminate against jap stuff. And when it comes to terrible games, I don't play them at all. I don't know why I'm posting in this topic.

Yeah, er, Sanity's Requiem. That's a western survival horror game.

EDIT: Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, even.

There's a thread in the rpg section for that. I gave my collection list and some mini highlights. Not that i like them. Of course not! I'm just terminally bored.

... forgot metal max returns.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is fantastic. At a time when everyone was making forgettable 3D console fighting games and futuristic racers, Silicon Knights came out of nowhere with a sprawling 2D Legend of Zelda style action/adventure game.

Oh, haha. It's been like 10 years since I played that game, but man, it was a classic.

Home of the Underdogs had the PC version for a while. You can probably still track it down, though it needs an XP patch. Probably easier to buy the PSX game off eBay and emulate it. A buddy of mine bought it for $2 a few months back.

And yeah, the voice covers and atmosphere were great. LoK is one of the few games that actually pulled off grimdark without feeling like it was trying too hard.

Anyone remember fighting Nupraptor?

Nintendo bought Silicon Knights as a second party (think Rare) and totally misused them. They ported Metal Gear Solid to Gamecube, but at that point no one really cared.

Then they went on to make... Too Human for Xbox 360, was it? Man, what a waste.

Plenty of good games on both sides of the pond, while I generally prefer my rpgs to be western. Even if there are games that don't compare to some of my favorite games, it doesn't mean all the games are shit. I still think final fantasy 6 is miles ahead of dragon age for example.

Legacy of Kain is the game that taught me I REALLY ENJOY playing games where killing things nets you more health. Ever since then, if enemies drop health orbs or I otherwise save myself from the brink of destruction by taking a life, it brings a smile to my blood-splattered hockey mask.
