It always amuses me how pissy video game nerds get about posting in older threads. Non-game forums usually don't care about posting in threads even after a couple of years of inactivity. The ADD of game nerds make them start freaking out if it's been a couple of months.

Next we will have a Jeff Vogel megathread.

Yeah who gives a fuck. If you want to post in a topic do it, whether it's from yesterday or yesteryear. Better than starting a new topic on the exact same subject or having megathreads.

I think the problem isn't with
:necro:
itself, but that, since it was just a random piece of wit, that it didn't really reference the context.
A simple quote would have fixed it.

I'm surprised how many people in this thread have (or claim they have) played that game

Maybe you should try it? It can't hurt can it? It is just waiting for you there, only need a few playthroughs to judge properly.

I was intentionally bumping the thread up so more people would see it, dude. Obviously this gem slipped past most of the board.

I think people need to worry more about RPGs than how other people post, a lot of people here talk more about other posters than they do about anything topical.

Yes, I was quite speechless to see this.

So which of this dude's games are worth playing? I still have Avadon (2011) and Avernum (2011) on my backlog. Is the original Avernum or even Exile better in any way than Escape from the Pit?

The first of every series is pretty good, they all get samey or decline after that.

Yeah, way better.

Even G4 looks okay, but 1-3 are downright offensively bad looking. Even Exile looked better.

Less than you'd think.

OTOH quite a few folks probably vaguely remember reading and even posting in this thread, but not enough to actually get the Uncle Tom's Cabin reference.

In this regard your necro was half-assed and shit.

G4 and G5 shrank the size of the tiles and icons so Vogel could up the game resolution without getting new art or upscaling the old (which would look horrendous), which means anything you get from monkeying with the UI gets drowned out by eye strain. Prepare to move your monitor to about 2 feet from your face while playing for best results.

Exile are vastly superior to Avernum. 2 more party members and, like, 10 times as many spells coming in all kinds of area effects instead of the popamole "you can target up to 8 individual enemies" crap. Exile 3 is his best effort for sure. Never seen the new new Avernum, but I bet it sucks next to the original Avernum about as much as the original Avernum sucks next to Exile 1.

Too bad you can't run the Exiles on modern windows, but it seems to work flawlessly both inside VirtualPC windows and inside Windows 3.1 launched from Dosbox. Which saves a hassle of running VPC providing you find a dosbox-ready Win3.1 package (they are floating around).

Definitely play Exile 3 over Vogel's modern offerings.

If there's one creator that represents the decline of RPGs over time, he's definitely the candidate.

Geneforge and Exile, dont bother about the rest. In Geneforge you should play the first (if you can stand the UI) and 4-5. Geneforge 2 isa really good game as well but isn't required at all except for a couple of references. Same goes for Geneforge 3 except it's not as good as the rest of the gmes in the series

Seeing that it's not too long since the release of Geneforge 5, I don't think it fits. His decline hasn't been consistent over time.

I don't really play much VNs, but I gave it a shot.
Went straight for Hanako good ending, no savescumming, I guess I know my way around 2d women. It was... actually pretty good? I think?
Rin was next. I expected hot cripple tomboy footjob... they gave me autism instead. She broke my brain. Bitch doesn't have arms, you don't have to make it worse by making her f u c k i n g insane!

Is it good? No idea. But it's not some creepy cripple porn. I think... it would actually be better without ero scenes.
