Jettatura, the hardcore Wizardry-inspired dungeon crawler from Nick Baker AKA megidolaon that we reported about earlier this year, was released today. For megidolaon, this is the conclusion of a project that started out a decade ago as a hobby, but in the end he nailed its launch date estimate exactly. This isn't the kind of game that's going to have launch trailers and press releases, so I'll just post its description here again.

Grab a trusty No. 2 pencil, a scroll of graph paper, and a well-sharpened blade! As an adventurer, it seems like an immeasurable epoch has passed since any quest of considerable hardship has intertwined your fate, but recently a crisis has befallen the land which beckons your steel! Descend into the labyrinthine depths below the Redoubt of Ylondur to retrieve the missing Scepter of Basmu, slay the treacherous necromancer Arlemal and his band of monstrous henchmen who pilfered it from the Royal Museum, and return as exalted champions to claim your spoils of coin, Titles of nobility and acreage, and glory!
Form a party comprised of one to six adventurers to embark upon your dauntless quest. But tread not without due caution, for within the dusty crypts, winding mazes, crumbling dungeons, and wicked fiend-temples of the sunless underfoot, there await deadly traps and illusions to confound and enmesh any interlopers -- at least, those who have not already been slain by the many ravenous beasts and cruel goblin-kin who skulk in the shadows!
Available for Linux and Windows.

Jettatura is available on Steam for $20 with a 10% launch discount until next week. Check it out if you're up to the task.

There's already some in depth reviews on steam :

顯然完全是照着巫術Wizardry的精神來做的DRPG,這是遊戲長處也是短處
你要是能接受一個沒有自動地圖,沒有物品說明,操作極其繁瑣,難度極高但懷舊程度滿分的DRPG,那就買吧
不過如果你只是想體驗舊時代DRPG的餘暉,但又不想花太多精力的話,建議去玩巫術8

could've at least translated it for us
Obviously, the DRPG is made entirely in the spirit of Wizardry, which is the game's strength and weakness!
If you can accept a DRPG with no automatic map, no item descriptions, extremely cumbersome operation, extremely difficult but full of nostalgia, then buy it!
But if you just want to experience the afterglow of the old DRPG, but do not want to spend too much effort, we recommend playing Wizardry 8

I don't see anything wrong with a few niche titles appealing to the hipsters who enjoy getting the graph paper out. It's probably a labor of love that the developers have no expectations of turning for a profit.

How does this compare to Grimoire?
Grimoire is in the style of Wiz7, this is early Wizardry, 1 to 3, so very different. You go down a 20x20 grid map, kill stuff, level up, and map the dungeon. It's basically murderhoboing 101. You can (sort of) save everywhere by leaving the game even in a dungeon (you couldn't do this in the original Wizardry, at least I don't remember this), but there's no save-n-reload function, this is more like a roguelike in that regard. If your party gets killed you need to create a new one and find the remains of the original and bring them back to the surface to reanimate if you're lucky.

Grimoire is more about exploring a massive world with many sections that sprawl everywhere. You have an automap, can save everywhere, etc. You have more of everything, races, spells, items. NPCs to talk to, stuff to figure out. Very different approach to the Wizardry formula

Graphics look very neat, but I wonder about the decision to go with a JRPG interface and font
