They just launched the store page on steam for the sequel with a demo at the same time going to check it out:

Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer unveiled — Demo available!
Just announced on the MIX, check out our new trailer and demo!
Eight long years after launching the original Kathy Rain, we couldn’t be more excited to give you a first glimpse of Kathy Rain 2: Soothsayer!

Check out the demo on Steam NOW: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2643950/

If you enjoyed this brief foray into the world of Kathy Rain, don’t forget to wishlist the full game! We'd love to keep you up to date on the road to launch next year.

In this long-awaited sequel, we have taken an ambitious step from a small-town mystery to a dark urban thriller. This chapter of the Kathy Rain saga takes place in 1998 in the metropolitan city of Kassidy, at a time when it’s been brought to its knees through a string of murders by the notorious serial killer nicknamed the “Soothsayer”.

When a big cash reward is announced, struggling private eye Kathy Rain is quick to get on the case! Hop on Kathy’s trusty bike, the Katmobile, explore the city to gather clues, interrogate persons of interest, track down the killer and finally put an end to Kassidy’s horror!
Soothsayer is a direct sequel to the original game and we would encourage you all to experience the original story beforehand, but it is not mandatory and if you are eager to see where this story leads you can jump right into the mystery with no bar to entry!

For those who played and enjoyed the original game (https://store.steampowered.com/app/370910/Kathy_Rain/ ) or the Director’s Cut (https://store.steampowered.com/app/1395030/Kathy_Rain_Directors_Cut/), count on seeing some familiar faces again in a bigger and better experience that draws from what made the first game truly special whilst still innovating in new and exciting ways!

More will be revealed over the next few months, so stay tuned right here on Steam!

Liked the first but didn't finish the DC after buying it so will have to get around to that at some point as I'm definitely interested in the sequel.

I played the first Kathy Rain game. While it started good, it lost me pretty much in the end after turning into an uninspired supernatural mystery.

Good news for me, I liked the first game. Didn't finish the DC, as of yet, though.

I hope this one will have some actual puzzles and not be the insult to player's intelligence like the first one.

Demo was ok, no tricky puzzles. The last one taught me I indeed will suck at evading the cops. I was a bit surprised at the lack of VA for all the lines.

Got a chuckle out of the Full Throttle reference as well when Kathy talks about feeling invincible.

Yeah I liked the first half of the game quite a bit but then it leaned too heavily into the fantasy elements for my taste. I prefer supernatural mysteries to remain a little more grounded and/or mysterious, like X-Files or Twin Peaks (although yeah, Twin Peaks does throw you right into the Black Lodge at the end).

Kathy looks less cute now and Eileen's new portrait reminds me of Rosangela Blackwell from the Blackwell games.

I don't recall Kathy being particularly cute in the first one, she was a full-on dyke. Let's hope the girlbossin' doesn't overpower the game this time.

Looks about the same to me, not particularly dyke ish either. The "Downtown" soundtrack doesn't mesh with Kathy's rage face there, hah.

I really enjoyed the first one, looking forward to this. Just bought Old Skies too and although it's a Wadjet Eye game (I pretty much love all their games), I'm not sure I'm particularly digging the art style of the characters. Weirdly, their faces are giving me the ick. I don't know what's wrong with me. I think I'm just a mong :/

Loved the first game, an adventure with no moon logic. Whispers brought back moon logic and I ended up hating it so I guess I shouldn't expect much from this but I'll probably at least try it.

I bought it with the rootrees are dead bundle. Played it an hour or so on my deck, and it's pretty good. The first hour already have more puzzle than the first. They're logical like the first game so it isnt too difficult but it still feel like detective works.

For example you're going to the library to find out about all the serial killer's victims where you have to find the right date of newspaper that contain the info and write them down as conversation prompt.

Finished it.

It's basically all the beats of kathy rain 1, but done and paced much better, with better investigation. Overall i enjoyed it, but i dunno yet if i like this over old skies, but still 2025 is unexpectedly stacked year for point and click adventure.

Basically if you like kathy 1, you will like kathy 2. If you don't like kathy 1, then idk it's pretty similar just bigger and better pacing.

Kathy 1 spoiler:

if you don't like kathy 1's supernatural plot, i think the second game weaved its supernatural plot into its mundane investigation better, but it is partly because you know it'scoming. It also expand on that aspect so they're less cryptic but yeah, if you want full pure detective story, this won'tbe your thing, but if you like urban fantasy mystery like gabriel knight (which is what the first kathy rain is aping) this will be your thing.

Ok, full spoiler here,i wanted it in different post, just so people know and wont open by mistake:

1. One thing that K2 improved from 1 is clarity and the compartmentalization between the supernatural element and the detective element. Sure you know the whole plot is supernal. The murder are supernaturally motivated, but the method are still mundande. In k1, they just crashed into each other (especially the original Kathy Rain). It's not like the murderer have magic wand that allow them to do impossible feats, as a result even with the lovecraftian gods and evil clones you still play a fair cat and mouse game.

2. Faith/Evil kathy: evil twin is really cheesy trope but in this case i really like it. She works because the investigation / chase is still fair and for the most part faith's acted as her own person isntead of disguising herself as kathy, unlike typical evin twin stories. The only exception here is how faith manipulated kathy's mom but that makes a lot of sense.

3. Red man: he is revealed to be human being trapped by an elder god, but because kathy burned the flowers in the ending of the first game, the god's conduit became weak and he escaped. I wish his character is elaborated further like how he came into the library as clerk , etc.

4. The old god: basically all the hanging stuff from kathy rain 1 is finally explained. The old god is a typical lovecraft monster born in the void, and drawn to earth because of curiosity, he began analyzing human lives. He wasn't innately malevolent, but became corrupted due to William Price's zealously and the twisted things he did. The unclear part is the dialgoue in the end, it seems like kathy's successful mending actually made him sympathize but because the flowers got burned, his connection to human world is destabilizing and his orders became twisted and unclear that push the burgundy man and faith to commit horrible murders? Idk
