It's a 2D isometric dungeon crawler. Can be either turn-based or real time.
This reminds me of another Kickstarter on the codex that had all the art prepared but needed programmers. IIRC it was pulled due to a poor roll out.
Anyhow, the art looks really nice. I went ahead and backed.
About this project
Citadel of the North is an isometric fantasy RPG inspired by the classic dungeon crawler games of the 90s. The game will be focused on character progression, exploration and fast paced combat which can be real time or turn based. For all the oldies out there we love Eye of the Beholder, Ice wind dale and Fallout 1 and will be drawing inspiration from these classic games.
Citadel of the North is an isometric, turn-based or real-time, single-player, 2.5D role-playing game. It is set on the northern most continent of the World. The game features a linear quest into the challenging mountain range of Erathos where you will lead yourself and up to five companions on a journey to the Citadel of the North.
The Guardian can be a Fighter, a Cleric, a Rogue, or a Wizard.
The Dungeon Crawl!
Starting like an old school dungeon crawl you select and customize your party preparing for the journey ahead. Once your team has been selected you are dropped straight into the belly of the beast with only one way forward. Guide your team and unlock the secrets of the Citadel.
Our game will support on the following systems.
The game is in a prototype phase for PC. A large part of the art work has been completed. With a successful pitch we can dive straight into developing the first dungeon and begin internal testing of the level.
Citadel of the North's art has been in development for over 3+ years. Game development has started 3 months ago with the programmer working part time on the weekends.
Why Kickstarter?
Completing this game May 2018 requires focus and time; the funding goal will afford the team these two objectives. We (me and my brother) are also investing a large part of the required funds to make this project happen and just need a little kick to get into gear.
Full time Programmer - This is a passion project for the team, but other professionals need to be paid so they can focus full time on the core game. We want the programmer full time on the project so we can develop the best gameplay experience with the resources with have.
Timothy Burns: Designer, Producer.
Stephen Burns: Artist, Designer.
Tyson Laucher: Artist.
Ken Clemson: Programmer.
Risks and challenges
We have lowered the risk by completing a large part of the games final maps and have the art content ready for the designer and programmer to work with. Also two of the core founding members will be working full time at normal jobs and will be funding the project as well. This is a project we are very passionate about.
The funding goal we’ve set will allow the programmer to do the work of creating a wonderful game with this art. It would have been easy to set the goal lower, but we’ve asked for exactly what we need to spark the development process.
