hey all,

I did a seach on King Quest viii with no real indept information on it. so here it is the King Quest viii topic.

From what I saw it was a totally diffrent game the the previous titles. So I don't want you guys to compair this to the previous titles, otherways this game will probably will get flamed to the ground. I never actually played the game, I only installed it for my mother that was a big fan of the previous titles (and all other point and click adventures as well)
So after 5 min playing the game it got removed from the disk, never to be played again. However after several years I began to wonder what kind of game it was. I kind of remind me of ultima 9 grafics wise. I remember at the start of the game that it did have some nice atmosphere. Did it have some RPG elements to it? To what game could it be compaired? Was it good? I want you guys to post your opinions. Please do not only post the bad things even though the game might suck (it still have done some things right, right?)

Alright I'm looking forward to your opinions.

cheers!

KQ8 was GRAPHICALLY a big departure from previous titles. Shine new 3d grafix that looked very nice, totally new interface, 3d character models, etc. The gameplay was a bit different in that you actually had to fight, but they were relatively simple affairs.

Quest for Glory 5 also released at around the same time recieved a graphical update.

Both games were fantastic, both had amazing grafix and animation (the updates and shiny new engine being a very good decision by sierra; one must always know when its time to move on)

I never finsihed KQ8, not being a big fan of adventure games, but its certainly worth playing. QFG5 is most definately worth playing (I finsiehd it once, and played it numerous times). I suggest you get both and play them.

KQ8 is great fun if you can distance yourself from the fact that it has nothing to do with the previous games in the series.

No character development that I recall, but you can upgrade your equipment. Also, do not underestimate the game's puzzling element, it might be a 3D action adventure and not a traditional point and click affair, but later in the game there are a few puzzles worthy of the Sierra legacy.

What I mean is dumbass that I played and finished the game once (as a wizard) and played it numerous times after that, but never finsiehd. (after beating it once I just played it later with other character types for the lulz)

I also just finsihed downloading qfg4 and am about to play it through again (I want to beat it as a paladin)

Sure, I got that. My point is that Quest for Glory 5 is an abomination with shitty Diablo-like combat, absolutely unchallenging puzzles and pathetic attempts at humor. Recommending it to others should be outlawed by an international treaty.

What the hell are you babbling about? The QFG series has always has click based combat; QFG5 actually added some depth. Its fantastic. Especially as a wizard you have so many options.

And the humor has always been corny. Seriously kid, if you haven't played the old classics you will never understand.

Go and play your precious Vampire:Bloodlines crap by troika games and drool at the bouncing boobs. You have no taste for art.

Some more questions:

1. So do we have an option in KQ8 what kind of character we can play?
2. Does it have side quests?
3. Does it have some RPG elements (examples please)

thanks

There is something you're missing: the first four QfG games were duel-oriented. You fought one monster at a time. Combat system there was timing-based: you dodged/blocked an attack and stroke back. In QfG 5 Sierra tried to realize fighting multiple opponents at the same time. The end result is stupid button-mashing. This is the same thing that happened to Gothic 3.

And the humor has always been corny. Seriously kid, if you haven't played the old classics you will never understand.
You know, there is this "Let's play Quest for Glory!" thread we have here. I love the humor of early Quest for Glory games. In Dragon Fire it wasn't funny. Period.

I am insulted. I really am.

Whoops. :( I totally forgot about your fantastic Lets Play! Ok I take back most of what I said.

However,

QFG series has had multiple opponent fights before, mostnotable in qfg4 where you can threo daggers and spells at MULTIPLE creatures until they close in and you enter the 'streefighter' mode.

Then its one on one.

Anyhow, qfg 5 was not a button masher. Really, it was an elegant combat system that captured well the chaos of melee. Combat was more fun than many games today.

1. No.
2. No, thought I think there are a few tasks that are optional.
3. What do you consider to be Rpg elements?
