Happy New Year, everyone!
And you too.

I vote for Grim. The Kolony must endure.

And to endure we need to get things back in order real soon. First step should be saving us from thirst. And you know what? I can BRU.
V9GPVtx.png
I can BRU us all to victory! Or, at least, content.
[professional comedian]: Remember, komrades, tis better to swim in alcohol than in blood!
[great consoler]: And while you swim in booze, you can tell old Nutkin what bothers you. And where to get some whores.

And it all comes to this, an open confrontation between the righteous leader of our fortress and a sniveling arriviste, too lost in her delusions of grandeur to realize how the fortress is about to come crashing on all of us, worse than when the Beast was threatening us. The grand projects of the Kommisar are only brought down by incompetent sycophants and ambitious traitors. I even made some pamphlets to support him! throw the pieces of paper in the air

Also that Update was genial, Grimwulf. Very good writing, and I like how you're combining what's happening in-game and in the thread in awesome writing.

Fuuu I still got no idea how to vote, look it from my pov..

Arguments pro Grimwulf:
-is in glorious fucking golden armor
That's pretty much the only reason but guess it counts for 3 arguments at least.

Arguments pro Kalin:
-trained me well, can highly recommend kalin's workout regime. It really does get results within just 7 days!
-generously allowed me time off to take care of the baby (or so he told me!)
-uses storyfag as main trainning dummy. Some more tended hearted folk would have mercy on him by now and switch him with someone else, but not Kalin.

Then throw in 4 more factors to complicate things:
-the elf lover was the first to vote for grimwulf, if that isn't suspect af I don't know what is
-storyfag is voting grimwulf and it's clear that mother brother frank loves to troll her husbando
-if Kalin becomes kommmisar, makes it even easier to get citizen as kaptain of the prole bashers so would kill two birds with 1 stone
-but if kalin does become kommisar he will get his bonaz and the universe itself conspires to make sure that will never happen

You can see why I'm wavering...
:negative:
So far team Grimwulf does have the better propaganda though, think I'll decide based on that. Or roll for it if it's a draw.

Comrade Imagine reporting for duty :salute:

Been binge reading this since last night and I WANT TO JOIN. Also loves your LP as always Grimwulf

Is there any unassigned male dwarf? I would like to be the resident actual tree hugger. Love elves and all that. Probably someone who lives with elves in the past. But I don't hate the dwarf you see, they are number 2 after elves after all. Maybe wait for those new immigrants. But its OK if I love elves just from stories and whatnot if nobody is available currently or in the immigrant wave outside.

Skill is secondary but I prefer not to have anything with carpentry or tree cutting.

For avatar can you edit my current avatar with a wig. Leave the bread. As an elf lover I shave :smug:

On another note any reason you are not using Masterwork DF Grimwulf ?

If anyone here wants the save file to play adventure mode or just browse the stories in Legends Viewer, send me a PM and I'll provide. I'm not posting the file here, because a random lurker might spoil some crucial information and make the whole KKK experience easier.

Lizzurd and RoBoBOBR already have the save game. Lizzurd even managed to find Baud and lead him back to Redlabored in adventure mode. Which resulted in bloodbath and lot of deaths, until Kalin interfered.

Das rite, Kalin's dream from my last update.

qOnI8fm.png

You can see Lizzurd's screenshot at the bottom.

Is there any unassigned male dwarf?

A few of them, mostly from the last migrant wave (they are currently stuck on the surface, banging on the closed gates of Redlabored), including mighty interesting ones. Brother Franks's brother (that sounds weird) and Chaosdwarft's father both have peculiar personal backgrounds, but they have no ties with the elves.

I'll see what else I can find once I have a spare moment.

On another note any reason you are not using Masterwork DF Grimwulf ?

I've played around with Mastework DF a few years back, and it's been updated multiple times since then. One reason is I can't be arsed to read through the changelog. Another one is keeping this LP user-friendly - vanilla DF is complicated enough to understand, especially for the uninitiated.

But the main reason I'm playing vanilla is the PTSD I got from Rimworld LP's. One can say I have a modding phobia now.

The only mod Redlabored needs is the ability to move other dwarves in wheelbarrows. Grimwulf needs a personal driver, men. That golden armor is snazzy, but fffffuck, is it heavy. It takes Grimwulf two days to move from Stone District to his mansion. He is almost immobile now.

Alright, this is the place boss told me about. What a dump, bunch of peasants living in holes in the ground. Never even bothered to dig deep enough to mine stone, ugh. And all they provide is horse cheese and meat, what a backbone of our society. Here's the plan: find this "Baud", get some info from him, write up a story and get back to reporting on nobles and their high life and parties, work i was born for. He might be not willing to cooperate, but that is what writer's talent (and creative imagination) is for. I don't know anyone here, guess i'll contact local law enforcement. Judging by the uniform and the arrogance in the eyes, i'd say this the sheriff.

zkIefxm.png
So Baud is keeping a low profile, huh. Avoiding authorities. Guess i'll have to interview each and every one of those peons until i find him, luckily the place is quite small.

eventually:
vouDp9R.jpg

zkIefxm.png
Finally! Allow me to introduce myself properly — i'm a journalist from "Daily Sheget", largest newspaper of The Courageous Crafts by circulation. Even a backwards place like that probably heard of us. I was tasked to interview you, can you spare some time?

Zohahmx.jpg
I guess, but why me? I'm but a simple farmer living here in hillocks on the outskirts of the civilization.

zkIefxm.png
Oh, don't sell yourself short! You are a recent addition to Shovewhipped, if you don't mind me asking, where were you residing previously?

KgHyev8.jpg

Zohahmx.jpg
I was born in Paintedgleams and spent the majority of my life there, being a farmer, but last year i settled in Redlabored and worked as carpenter there.

zkIefxm.png
What motivated you to change your life so drastically?

Zohahmx.jpg
I always dreamed of mastering a skill, and while farming is a valuable and useful trade, there's nothing creative about it, no way to express yourself. As for Redlabored — dwarves there are trying out something quite interesting, they call it Kommunism, also my sister settled there before me and told me it was a worthy place.

6ADoleF.jpg

57B3irL.jpg

zkIefxm.png
What is this "komunizm" you speak of?

Zohahmx.jpg
I'm not really the one you should ask that question, for i'm just a carpenter, not komissar or politruk, but to my understanding it's a system where no nobles are exploiting the fruits of dwarven labor, and every managerial position is held by an elected official. All dwarves can vote and thus all are equal.

zkIefxm.png
What? No nobles?! Every dwarves can vote? Most of them can't even read, and you give them power to make vital decisions! That's ridiculous! Sigh... Sorry, this is unprofessional. Say, you look like a veteran soldier rather than a carpenter, were you tortured to accept kommunistic ideals? Is that why you fled here?

c032Gmo.jpg

Zohahmx.jpg
No... That was done by a weregecko.

zkIefxm.png
Y-you were bitten? B-but that means...

Zohahmx.jpg
Relax, full moon is still weeks away. Let me tell you my story, for i know a thing or two about werebeasts. When i was only 9 years old i was attacked by on of them, but managed to escape unharmed.
isxbdJP.jpg

Zohahmx.jpg
But... Not everyone was so fortunate. My little sister... She was only 5...
eSoAuJ9.jpg

Zohahmx.jpg
I didn't save her. I was also a child but i should have done something. Anything. For decades after that i was living a simple life of a farmer, no beast attacks, memories started to fade a bit, but then only 6 month after the move to Redlabored the curse found me again. It was a vicious weregecko, and at the time Redlabored had no military force to speak of, no one to kill the beast or at least drive it away. I knew what to do, how to hide from that beast, all the childhood memories flooded me. But i just could not run. Not again. This time i was fighting, not hiding! I would protect those dear to me whatever the cost! And that is how i found myself in a loosing battle against a bloodthirsty hellspawn. I was not alone, though, Unib Shovestaves stood beside me with fire in her eyes. She was also protecting her loved ones. What followed was a blur, i mostly forgot it, but the beast eventually left without finishing me off, Unib was not as lucky — it beat her to death with a sock. Or maybe the unlucky one is me, for i'm left to bear the curse, transforming into a vicious killer every full moon. I knew i had to get away from Redlabored, so i moved here, where nobody knows me.

zkIefxm.png
Holy shit! But your transformations, do you not attack local villagers?

Zohahmx.jpg
No. I keep an eye on a calendar and go deep into the woods every full moon. The beast inside me cares not what blood it drinks, so it can satiate its thirst on rabbits.

zkIefxm.png
That is fascinating, thank you for your time! I gotta submit the article to my editor, this might even make the cover story! Goodbye and take care, also please don't ever relocate to the capital.

So wait. Do I correctly understand DF's combat? Kalin's skills make him a mediocre fighter, correct? And he still dominated the troglodytes (and the weregecko in the alt-history/dream/lizzurd vizziun). Would that mean that all we need for a functional military is merely equipment?

He's pretty gud, actually. Kalin and Brother Frank are the only reliable fighters in Redlabored, although both of them are glass cannons without armor.

Would that mean that all we need for a functional military is merely equipment?

We're good on weapons, but it doesn't matter for the most part, since most of the Prolebashers are useless in combat. They can't land a damn solid hit.

Gotta have armor, though. Once we do, fighters like Reinhardt and Citizen would at least be useful as enemy distractions/punching bags.

In other words, we do not have a functional military, but we do have a few competent fighters. In DF one good fighter can take on a full noob squad by himself.

Having the good weapon and at least basic skills makes a good deal of a job. Even proficient wrestler cannot deliver heavy blows and someone with sword and basic training could easily wound and kill the said fighter. And even the great warrior with good armor and skills can be surrounded by multiple enemies.
Skills heavily matter in a case of duel or fight between two well equipped groups. If you want to be a cool witcher and go after troll or dragon you want to know your weapon really well.

I once modded the guns into DF – it appeared surprisingly good. I still remember how I tracked a vampire across the sewers and killed it in a gunfight.

Depends on the type of raid. Sometimes they are just a scout party of 5-7 lightly armored gobbos, that is manageable. 15-20+ and added beak dogs/trolls? Nope.

Also komissar voting:

SGvQrRn.png
I vote for Grimwulf. Voting for his subordinate would be breaking the chain of command, and this way elves win.
