Arrrrghhhhhh, I'm SO conflicted about this one. I mean, I'd love to postpone all that soul-devouring business until later 'cause that'd mean that maybe we'd get to devour someone really, really important -- but hell, he's a fucking librarian, he must have plenty of knowledge we could gain by devouring him, perhaps something useful even... But no, no, no, must resist, must bluff our way out, so...

There, I said it. I just hope this doesn't lead to our quick and sure demise.

Because explaining librarian's sudden disappearance after that warp shockwave that every warp sensitive being noticed in miles would be much more difficult than saying half-truths e.g.

That suddenly a demon appeared out of nowhere, attacked Hax but moments before our Librarian rushed in it vanished. Seeing that the librarian (and doubtlessly some of his subordinate psykers) had witnessed the phenomenon and having the state of our room as evidence we could pull somehow through it... Unless they find the empty bottle and check what was in it... Then we are fucked.

That's just example how I see the state of affairs and how I would defend my position.

By the way, was it just me who anticipated the device gulping the whole bottle in one go? Well, at least now we can RIP THE SOULS FROM THEIR FLESH!!! MUHAHAHAHA!!!

Also, questions regarding Devour Soul...

How exactly does it work? Can we 'eat' a living being just like that, or do we have to kill/weaken it somehow? If the former, then what happens with the bodies after they have been killed? Can we eat any living being? What about psykers / demons / eldar /warp sensitives? Does eating them net us more benefits? Is the ability magic/warp based or does it act outside the rules?

Edit: How much of an access do we have to our meal's memories? Do these memories endanger our consciousness in the same way device does? In other words, do we risk becoming one-of-many ourselves?

Eating a librarian seems like a horribly risky and bad idea. I have no idea how Hax is going to try and explain this, though, so looking forward to the next update. Seems like we need to try and use the feeding mechanic on someone deserving and possibly having some useful information (like perhaps that Inquisitor...).

So root, will you keep us updated on the one of many's status? I was thinking earlier that feeding one update and then abstaining the next would lead to the dreaded middle ground, but I realize now that's not really the case.

I have a most terrible idea. Root has said the devouring souls increases our psychic presence. So what if we devour a lot of souls, enough to let it be sensed throughout the sector, or even the galaxy? We could become the new astronomicon. At a terrible cost this is true, but how else will the Imperium survive when the tyrant star is destroyed/incapacitated at the end of this chapter? At least I assume that is what will happen to it.

What would be the difference is feeding on a soul or flesh and blood for this choice? Different target I assume, but will both satiate the device equally? Also, it seems flesh and blood=mutation, soul=psychic presence. Am I correct in this?

Huh. According to root, the results of our meddling in Sepheris Secundus, Iocanthos and the Lathes were horrible. So we need to be strong for the next update. Feed on flesh and blood; getting a stronger physical presence would probably be inadvisable, in case the librarian got suspicious. Also, we might have to call on the help of Cegorach later...

B. We'll need to be mentally and physically strong to deal with the upcoming problems.

C.

We must not fall to the hunger. Not yet, first we have to gather a party, look for a spirit bear, find the other pieces of the Mask, then defeat the Halo Device's entity itself so we can master it and become an almighty demigod... Woops, wrong game :P

But I still vote for C.
