Official RPG Codex Discord Server

  1. Welcome to rpgcodex.net, a site dedicated to discussing computer based role-playing games in a free and open fashion. We're less strict than other forums, but please refer to the rules.

    "This message is awaiting moderator approval": All new users must pass through our moderation queue before they will be able to post normally. Until your account has "passed" your posts will only be visible to yourself (and moderators) until they are approved. Give us a week to get around to approving / deleting / ignoring your mundane opinion on crap before hassling us about it. Once you have passed the moderation period (think of it as a test), you will be able to post normally, just like all the other retards.

    Rules for List #1:
    1. No cRPGs that have released for PC.
    2. cRPGs exclusive to consoles will be listed under the appropriate console platform.
    3. cRPGs available but not exclusive to consoles but not available on PC will be listed under the appropriate non-console platforms.
    4. Acceptable platforms: No PC. Platform must have been released by 1995 or earlier.
    5. The release year of the game does not matter. There are still games being made for these platforms in the style of the older games.
    6. Being available on multiple platforms is fine, as long as it doesn't break rule #1.
    7. A title being emulated on a platform does not count as a release for that platform.
    8. It must be a cRPG.

    Rules & Guidelines for List #2:
    1. It must be a cRPG.
    2. It will list the differences for the title between each platform it is released on. Examples of such differences include music, sounds, graphics, story changes, content changes, gameplay changes, and such.

    Games marked with '*' are games with a shiny codex seal of approval(read: if you think a game is good, please say so and I'll mark it as such.)
    Games marked with '#' are games your curator thought looked interesting and/or good and probably worth your time.

    Some games have links accompanying them, categorized as such:
    CA = CRPG Addict
    DC = dungeoncrawlers.org

    Obvious WIP. Starting with Amiga and working my way down, suggest what you can.

    Ah, how unfortunate that it's in the lost language of... Polish, you say?
    Shame, nobody can even decipher that anymore.

    Yes, there are also Amiga rpgs in Czech, another elegant language from a more civilized age.

    Yeah, it is Amgia only (not counting emulations). Game made by Croatian devs (later known as CroTeam). The bugged beta version of the game was leaked (probably by the reviewers) and the publisher got mad and resigned form releasing the game. The devs distributed finished version by themselves. Publisher got mad again and banned devs from selling it (they had contract). The devs also confirmed that the bugs in the beta were intentional and served as a protection.

    Added a bunch of games to the Commodore section.

    Let me know of cRPGs that I'm missing.
    If you've played any games I've listed and thought they were good, let me know so I can mark them.
    Let me know of cRPGs that fall under List #2 and why, this one is going to be a pain to fill out.

    Muryaden I/II for the Apple II might be of interest to Ultima fans... if you can speak French.

    More for the Ultima fans on the Apple II, both from 1990(? 1989?), both developed by John Carmack.
    Kinda surprised there's no LP videos for Shadowforge or Wraith

    Two more Ultima-likes, this time for the Amiga.

    Antepenult, this one seems to be quite rare.

    Zerg

    I don't believe these were available on any other platforms.

    The Trapped Series, Amiga Ultima clones, very clunky.
    In the different department, there's Elvira. The DOS and the Amiga/ST versions both have different soundtracks, and there's a C64 version, which I believe is made in a different engine. There's no real reason to play the C64 version AFAIK, its just interesting to witness.

    I remember looking at the Amiga demo's at B. Dalton when they still had computer games. All those games looked awesome.
