Hello and welcome to yet another Blood Bowl LP. That makes 4 Blood Bowl LPs total, 5 if you include Chaos League, making it probably the most LPed game on the Codex bar, obviously, Oblivion.

So what's this one all about, and why do we need another Blood Bowl LP? Beats me, but people seem to enjoy it, so I'll give another one a shot.

start1.jpg

Playing blitz this time around. We're in a custom competition. These are the rules as customized;
Standard championship, 4 tiers
Max fan factor: 18
Max # of rerolls: 8
Max # of cheerleaders: 10
Equipment: With
Advanced equipment: With
Sponsors: With
Skilled Players: Without
Deaths: With
Ageing: Without
Negotiations with players: Without
Scrolls: With
Bribes: With
Doping: With
Extra Training: With
Kick Off Events: With
Additional Inducements: Without

Feedback and suggestions are welcome, I can still just start over the competition now. I probably won't do the opening match until tomorrow.

start2.jpg

Five matches, with 4 matches determining positioning and then a match to determine who goes up a tier. I think. Never played championship before.

start3.jpg

And here's out team! The Decline Lions, with appropriate logo, team jersey colour, and of course team motto.

start4.jpg

I think my negotiations with the sponsor are a bit optimistic on my side, but honestly I have no idea what I'm doing.

start6.jpg

Roster. That's right, I bought FIFTEEN players and still have a bundle of cash left.

Two trolls are a must, followed by a bunch of secret weapons that are damned handy, but like the rest of the Gobbos damned cheap. The rest is roster fodder, who'll rotate out as quickly as they come in. A bunch of volunteers (fools), followed by roster flotsam of good performers from our previous team.

start5.jpg

Delightful. Buying a point in fan factor seems to have pushed me over the 1000, but I do so hate to lose kick-off events.

Season 1: Division 4
Match 1: The Decline Lions vs Creeveland Crescent (Human)
Match 2: The Black Axes (Dwarf) vs The Decline Lions
Match 3: The Decline Lions vs the Warfire Wanderers (Skaven)
Match 4: Da Severed 'Eads (Orc) vs The Decline Lions
Match 5: The Decline Lions vs The Scaled Scavengers (Lizardmen)

Only two re-rolls? Without skilled positionals, they really need more than most teams.

Try to keep at least one person next to us trolls as much as possible, it'll add a bonus to the RS rolls, and hopefully keep our little minds on track (ie eating the opposition, and not our own team.)

This should be extremely entertaining. I don't even know how you'd go about winning a game with Gobbos without being extremely lucky.

I know, OKK, they're first on my to-purchase list.

Aye, I figured that one out. Things I figured out so far:
- Looney makes a good blitzer
- Leave space around the fanatic
- Cheat
- Keep a goblin besides the troll at all times
- Try to maximalize the number of people your looney, fanatic and trolls engage and hurt, because no one else is going to
- Exploit your mobility (seriously the most important thing, the stunty skill really is lovely)
- Be fearless with your mobility. You won't get anywhere if you constantly worry about protecting your ball carrier or having him inside someone's blitzing space. Just toss him out there and pray.
- Cheat
- Throwing goblins is funny

Decline Lions FTW !!!

It's appropriate in so many ways.

Yes yes, you'll all get your chance when the Gobbos start dropping

Match 1! Big ass update!

Humans! Humans, at least, I can handle to some extent. They don't do too much damage and one can outmanoeuvre them.

match1_001.jpg

This is the training portion in blitz mode...I don't get this portion, whenever I try to use it, I just end up losing a player for the match. What am I not getting about it?

Not using it this match, anyway. Hummies try to, 27% for +1 STR, but no luck.

Kicking off.

match1_004.jpg

I luck out right at the start as the humans fumble their pickup. Luck is the most important factor of the Gobbo gameplan.

match1_006.jpg

As exemplified by OSK making his dodge and pickup rolls easily here. I'm dodging around all through this match. Three consecutive dodge rolls? No problem.

match1_007.jpg

Luck does not extend to Vortexx trying to move in for some support.

They knock down OSK easily, and recover the ball.

match1_013.jpg

Edward R Murrow chainsaws a human out of the game! Haha, cheating, it gets us somewhere. Where? I dunno, but somewhere!

I blitzed in Azira towards the thrower carrying the ball, but he's having no luck downing him.

match1_020.jpg

Trying to have Edward move in for some support fails as he's downed by his own chainsaw.

match1_022.jpg

And there goes OSK for the match. I'm not using apothecaries for badly hurts.

match1_029.jpg

Their runner escaped. JoKa kind of swings around him and the blitz doesn't bring him down either.

match1_032.jpg

They free up their thrower by taking down Mantiis.

match1_034.jpg

And Vortexx. I decide to use my apothecary here, but no use, the apo result is also a misses next game. Oh well.

match1_040.jpg

They KO a bunch of players to free up the thrower. They KOd Edward R Murrow too, which is good since that means he won't be sent off.

match1_041.jpg

The freeing up of the thrower failed! Bardon tackles him as he tries to dodge away

match1_042.jpg

And JoKa swings in to clear the road for Bardon. Looking ok. Bardon rolls a good pick-up and moves behind Rabidredneck on the left side. Kind of pointless as Rabidredneck stupided out and doesn't even provide a tackle zone.

They're looking to blitz, until...

match1_045.jpg

Suckers! Emil Frej shows epic failage in dodging away, and is badly hurt.

match1_051.jpg

bardon dodged out and is beset by a single human. He'll have a scoring opportunity in this last turn, needing a dodge roll and two going for its.

Note how JoKa hit Silellak there. It's a good thing Gobbos have dodge, so I can select defender stumbles or defender pushed safely when JoKa hits teammates, as he is wont to.

match1_053.jpg

Made the dodge. But what about the going for its?

match1_058.jpg

Teehee! Last play of the half!

match1_065.jpg

Gratuitous cheerleader shot. Y'know, if we have squigs available, why the hell don't we use 'em on the field?

I've always loved squigs.

Half-time!

I'm impressed we managed to KO one and injure two humans, mostly through cheatery, but our injury ward is more overstocked: Edward R Murrow fails his recovery, JoKa the fanatic is sent off, and we have 3 injured players. Result: we have 10 players on the pitch. However, we've hit them pretty hard, and they have only 9!

Putting Jasede and his giant dildo in the backfield to make off with the ball.

match1_078.jpg

They quickly even the numbers by KOing two more Gobbos, and as you can see here, they're putting on a very strong blitz.

match1_081.jpg

Not an incredibly smart one, though, as I move Jasede into protection on a fairly clear part of the field.

The ogre blitzes in but manages only to push Jasede. And then...

match1_083.jpg

Another failed dodge roll, another injury. They seem to think they can dodge everything. It don't work that way, guys.

match1_087.jpg

Argh, Jasede fails to dodge out of the box and the ball is loose. Oh, and he's KOd.

match1_091.jpg

Ogg picks it up and runs off with it! Hurray Ogg!

match1_093.jpg

Did you guess it? Their turn ends with yet another failed dodge roll.

match1_099.jpg

Ogg dodged away from the single dude covering him, and runs it in, no sweat, no worries, plenty of backflips!

Woohooo! We're...actually winning? Weird.

match1_106.jpg

Not as bad as it could be. And we do get Edward back.

match1_111.jpg

Crickey, these guys are addicted to failing dodge rolls.

match1_115.jpg

Edward KOs the troll! Wooot Murrow!

match1_124.jpg

And one of the catchers follows a turn or two later! Crickey, I love the Looney, he's fun.

match1_126.jpg

Playing some prevent defense here. I keep him boxed up which makes the humans nervous, and there's too many Gobbos to tackle all in one turn. Not a D that's supposed to cause turnovers, I'm just holding him up from scoring.

match1_132.jpg

Appropriately, the game ends with another failed dodge roll. Too bad I didn't have one turn left, coulda tried to score.

match1_133.jpg

Man, I had a bunch of luck. Even ignoring all the failed dodges, they injured a few players early in the match, but from then on lucked out on injury rolls. Got plenty of KOs but hey, I managed to field quite a full team all match long.

match1_134.jpg

Sadly, SPPs are hard to come by for Gobbos, as shown here.

match1_136.jpg

Standings. We numba one! Don't expect us to stay there long...

Also, notice all team values, including mine, went down. wtf?

I'd buy another Gobbo but I lack the funds, being 1000 short.

You actually won a game? Hahahahaha. Awesome stuff, though, entertaining.

Also, the training bit works by stopping it before it gets to the end of the line. Which means you press the start button, the bar starts to fill, and you need to stop it as late as possible without getting the bar completely filled (which would mean missing a game).

Durrrr.

Can you believe I never figured out you're supposed to stop the bar. I just stared at it filling up.

Ugh, I'm renaming one of the trolls "Brother None", for major durrrrage

Good show! And nicely played, noone really seriously hurt, no deductions from stats, no nigglers and no deaths! Actually winning's just the icing on the cake.

Though I'm a bit sad to see you've only got 2 rerolls. I imagine, what with all the dicerolls involved in moving the goblins around, you'd be better served having 6-8 of them?

Anyhoo, keep it up, good entertainment. :D

At least 5. But they're damned expensives, 120k a hit, so they take some saving up to.

I really, really do need them, tho'. Both Ogg and bardon made their pick-up/going for it rolls without any rerolls available. It's pure blind luck that they managed it, and really, that's quite a lot of luck you're talking about there.

It's funny though. They only cost 50.000 when you start a new team, meaning a whopping 70K discount. Players though, cost the same whether you hire them from the start or later. In case of a gobbo team where longevity is something of a dream rather than reality, maybe it could be a good idea to only buy the minimum 11 players, and then stock up on rerolls, aiming towards filling the roster later?

What I'm trying to argue is, if you get all the players you can from the start, they can grow more SSP wise. But with goblins, you expect players to die. So you probably won't be getting players with 50+ SSP. Why not get the replacements later, seeing as their price remains the same? And instead stock up on rerolls when you create a team so you only pay 50K and not 120K?

Gah. Rambling.

Not arguing that you should start over of course, just throwing some ideas around. :)

Durrrrr.

Yip, too true, I should've skipped a Gobbo and six cheerleaders for two more rerolls. Ah well. I'll live.

And you actually asked for feedback earlier in this thread, I just failed to notice that. :(

Bah. I'm really not helping here, am I?
And I even checked the thread when you created it, but decided to just skim it due to being at work.

Guess I'm living up to the 'really stupid' part of being one of the trolls on your team.

But hey! That's part of what LPs are about, no? Making the silly mistakes so others don't have to?

I'm sure The Decline Lions will manage. :D

Actually OSK pointed it out, but somehow it didn't click.

Hell, it should just be more entertaining with less re-rolls.

By the way, any advice on skill progression if they do level up? I guess sure hands and kick are in if I need specialists, but it seems kind of pointless to try and make anyone into a fighter. Block is still useful tho', rite?

Good luck getting block, you need doubles for anything but Agility skills. So probably jump up and maybe sidestep?

Also if you want to 'practice' the training you can always hit the back button (or escape) if you fail and lose the player for the game and try again.

If you do get a double for the Gobbos, I'd go for wrestle rather than block to be honest...it means you have one less player standing up next to a Goblin at the end of the turn, which is always a bonus. Sticking the boot in on fallen players is always a good idea, too.

Personally, I'd go for diving tackle/jump up in combo for a few Gobbos, then diving catch, sure feet or sidestep. Try to get hail mary pass rather than anything else for a Goblin "thrower" , it should work out alright with a diving catch skilled receiver.

Oooh, diving tackle and diving catch sound like fun indeed, and hail mary would fit well with the general kamikaze-playstyle we've got going.

As does wrestle, but I guess if I roll double I have other priorities, like sure hands...or kick! Love kick.

Actually the apothecary cured the pinched nerve, but in so doing gave you a groin strain. I'm not sure how to visualize that one.
