Inspired by oldmanpaco's efforts, and those of the fallen in the F2 ironman thread, I have decided to provide for you an account of an ironman run.

Contents
1. Kicked Out of the Tribe
2. Everyone in Klamath Sucks
3. Down the Rat Hole
4. Toxic Heaven
5. Scum and Villainy

First up, some technical details:
I am using Killap's unofficial patch, but not the RP content. Patch version is 1.02.27.3
I will be playing at my native resolution of 1024 x 600, but I'll try to keep fullscreen caps to a minimum
The difficulty will be normal/normal. I don't think anything harder would be suitable for this char to ironman
If you need something to listen to while reading this, start here http://www.archive.org/download/AURAL01 ... chives.zip
The character I've generated is basically supposed to represent myself in SPECIAL form, hence it's "not very good". I guess time will tell in the end

Also, this is my first ever LP, so don't be too harsh  Have fun

Kicked Out of the Tribe

Episode 1: Kicked Out of the Vault Tribe

The name's Jigawatt. I never was liked much around here - too weak to go out on the hunt, too repulsive to the women to help with the forage. It's no surprise I found myself here; the Temple of Trials my ass. This was a death sentence. Well I'll show them, I'll pass their stupid little test and find the GECK. Then I'll have first pick of the breeding partners and all the 'healing' powder I can smoke! YOU HEAR ME!

Narrator.png
Let's have a look at the vital stats, shall we:

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-02-11-67.png

Narrator.png
I'm going to be quite fragile throughout the game, relying a lot on called shots to get me through tight spots. Place your bets now on how long that's going to last.

PC_Primitive.png
Guess there's nothing for it but to go on in.

PC_Primitive.png
Argh! Giant ants. Won't be going near those if I want to live another day. Luckily in the dim light sneaking around them proves to be relatively simple.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-03-48-48.png

PC_Primitive.png
Shortly afterwards a locked door to which I don't have the key... but it proves no obstacle to my lock meddling skills.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-06-08-69.png

PC_Primitive.png
I then find a door with no lever at all, but nearby on some pottery is a small charge of explosives. Just what kind of simpleton are these trials designed for?

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-08-03-64.png

PC_Primitive.png
Further into the tunnels - which feel like they go on forever - I evade more giant ants. Just when it seems I have brushed off the final pair, I see Cameron, the Village Ignoramus, ahead. He took great pleasure in using me as a punching bag during our childhood, and I have the feeling that's exactly what's on his mind now.

PC_Primitive.png
Luckily for me Cameron is as dumb as a sack of bricks. Unluckily, whilst he doesn't seem to notice me trying the lock, I can't get the tumblers to budge. But then I notice he has the key swinging freely from his belt

Time to grab those clothes and get out of here. Emerging as the successful chosen one ought to finally get me some respect around here.

PC_Jumpsuit.png
Somehow that idiot Feargus has gone and broken the well, again, in the two hours that I've been gone. Oh well, it won't hurt to hone the old fixin' skills one last time before heading out.

As I stood over the canyon that separated Arroyo from the rest of the world, I couldn't help but feel it would be the last time I would see her. Nevertheless, I was now beginning to be overcome by the excitement of the possibilities the outside world offered, and began to make my way east across the desert wasteland.

Everyone in Klamath Sucks

Episode 2: Everyone in Klamath Sucks

The only thing of note to happen on the trip across the wastes is a small detour required to avoid some radscorpians.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-21-47-96.png

Two cold desert nights later, I have arrived in Klamath

twnklama.gif

PC_Jumpsuit.png
What a shithole.

I'll just find Vic or the GECK and get out of here. There's a notice board showing some work that needs doing around town, but I think I'll just focus on my quest for now.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-22-26-81.png

There is also a weaponry manual in a nearby shelf, which could come in handy.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-24-12-50.png

I head into the nearest building that has any life in it, and begin to ask around about the GECK.

PC_Jumpsuit.png
Sonuvabtich didn't tell me the place was swarming with geckos. If he can't walk anymore, I hate to think how I'd fare. Maybe next time Bob.

Exploring the rest of town, I come across a pub where a Mr Sullivan offers to teach me some more about fighting unarmed (but not before taking the piss out of me, of course). I've had more combat training this week than last 22 years combined! The workout leaves me feeling generally more confident as well.

Well, I got some more cash and a new place to look if neither Vic or the GECK happen to be in Klamath. Not a bad deal. After disabling the lock in the room to the north I find a couple of pieces of meat jerky, which I'm sure could come in useful.

Narrator.png
The jerky I found here saves this LP from being terminated early in pretty short order. Funny how it all works out.

Some other items carelessly left around town include a Cat's Paw magazine, a sledgehammer, some iguana-on-a-stick and a radscorpian tail. I keep the foodstuff and turn the rest into cash. Finally, I see what can only be Vic's house.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B04-37-32-75.png

But nobody's home. Looking through the shelves I find a pack of cards, some alcohol, a radio, a stimpack and a rifle, somewhat like those described in the weapons manual.
springun.gif

Yes. This feels right. Finally a weapon I can call my own. I have half a mind to run back to Arroyo and shove this up Cameron's a.... *ahem*. Hopefully I won't have to use it too often.

Next door I interogate one of the local whores about Vic's patronage. Jenny seems to think he might be in the Den. Looks like that will be my next stop if the GECK doesn't show up here. Out the front of the whorehouse I get accosted by the village idiot.

And with that Torr leads me to remote pasture with a few grazing brahmin and a whole load of radscorpians.

Narrator.png
Next time: Combat! Will Jigawatt's new rifle serve him well in mortal combat? Or will this be the highest effort:output ratio LP in Codex history? Stay tuned!

Coming up through a manhole at the end on the caverns I have a look around for anything that seems GECK-like. I hope it's big, I'd feel like a right dickhead if I looked at it but didn't recognise it. Surely, it doesn't seem to be up here. There is however, what appears to be a broken down personal vehicle, from which I take the last pieces of undamaged machinery. Time to head back to town then.

FALLOUT2%2B2011-05-19%2B22-51-01-79.png

I crash at the pub to get my strength back, and on the way out purchase some proctective clothing just in case things continue to be so rough on this quest.

Now we stylin'

Just before leaving this hellhole, I notice the Dunton's leaving their house and heading to the pub. Wouldn't hurt to duck in and 'resupply'. I jimmy the lock, and grab just about everything off their shelves.

Some notes on the above update. Firstly, the perk I took was Quick Pockets, and I know that rubs up a few people the wrong way. Allow me to defend it thusy:

1. Fuck you. Most people take Gifted for ironman, and that's way worse.
2. I mostly intend to use it to combine a bit of healing with weapon swapping, which I foresee I will do doing a bit.
3. I'll make it know in the narrative when I do any mucking about in the inventory during combat, you can be the judge then.

Next up is the rat king fight. I did not want that to happen. As you can see, the game provides the description "The support looks like could collapse if stressed." leading me to believe that quest could be resolved the same way as the RP. Apparently not. You live and learn.

And finally, feel free to provide some sort of feedback about length/style/pacing etc. (it should be obvious) I'm no writer, and I don't know if first-person present tense is working for this or not, so comment away.

I think that's all the self indulging I have for now; next update will probably be mid-next week.

Don't think it was ever implemented.

Quick Pocket IS the best investment you can have in Ironman run. THere's so much things you can do with 2 AP inventory access.

Take drugs, heal up etc.

When you have 10 AG, as you should, it doesn't make that much difference. He, however, took 6 :salute:

Ha. I thought someone might pick up on that. a) I have some credentials to back that up but why the hell would anyone believe me b) Have to spend those 40 points somewhere.

If I were being completely honest I might have swapped a point of IN for CH, but afaik CH 3 does absolutely nothing that CH 2 doesn't so not much point there.

Toxic Heaven

Episode 4: Toxic Heaven

I made it to the Toxic Caves without incident, and tracking Smiley to the exact cave he entered is a simple affair. Exploring it, however, seems like it won't be so easy.

A small gecko approaches, but one bullet to the head is enough to dispose of it.

Unfortunately, it seems the noise of the rifle has attracted two golden geckos. This could be a problem.

Awwww shit.

I lay out some food as a decoy, hoping to buy enough time to survive.

Ha! After quickly putting a round between the eyes of the first gecko I knocked out I use one of my three stimpacks. I was a bit leery about injecting strange liquids directly into my bloodstream, but in this case the results speak for themselves. My wounds are quickly forgotten that I may press on further into the caves.

F2LP015.png

It's not long before I reach a section of the cave so full of toxic waste that it would be impassable without my protective boots. Seems that fate is smiling on me today. The good luck continues when I come across a locker with a stimpack to replace the one I just consumed.

F2LP016.png

I can see ahead the only way forward is down a ladder, but yet another golden gecko blocks my path. Counting on the fact that it can't work a ladder, I ignore it for now and just make my way quickly down to the next level.

I've found my way to what appears to be a military installation of some sort, or... maybe even a vault! Only one of the doors is working without power, and behind it...

Next to Smiley is generator which I am able to repair using some tools I picked up in Klamath. The only way further into the base is via an elevator which requires some sort of electronic key though. Guess I'll have to find more about this place and come back another day. For now it's time to escort Smiley home.

Narrator.png
A funny thing happened on the way back that could've made for a bizarre twist this episode. The rubber boots don't melt after x steps, they have x% chance of melting each step, which for Smiley was his first step in the goo. Fearing he wouldn't make it back alive, I used the steal interface to give him a new pair (and took his 10 golden gecko pelts and some meat jerky) under the assumption that like other NPCs he'd let me steal and plant freely. Only after I closed the dialogue and got 60xp did I release that had the plant/steal failed, he would have turned hostile and potentially killed me, or at the very least screwed me out of 1000xp + $100.

We head back to the surface without much incident. Smiley proves to be dreadful in combat against the gecko that remained on the first level, but it least it was him taking the bites and not me.

Thanks Miss B. See ya.

Seems the usefullness of Klamath has run its course. Better check out this Den and see what Vic's up to. I hope it's less unpleasant than this place.

Yeah, I know it was kind of a weak update, but the next two are going to be BIG HUGE so I had to cut it somewhere.

In case you were wondering about the specifics of the meat jerky bait, you can make geckos of any variety waste turns at a rate of 2jerky/gecko/turn, so long as you stand more than 1 hex away from where you drop it. If you're the kind of person who kills the Duntons you should be able to get through the whole toxic caves without a scratch.

Regarding the conspicuous absence of Sulik: he shits me, and with only 2 CH gotta choose wisely.

Well hello again.

The short version is, when you post an LP update, come back in a week to view the comments before starting the next update and see there are none, motivation quickly disappears. I know that seems a bit self-indulgent and prima donna-ish but that's the way it is man - comments are LP fuel.

With that out of the way, I might think of picking this up again. I was hanging out for RK47's take on F2 but I guess that's not confirmed yet (hopefully he still we go ahead though wink wink nudge nudge). So update soon! Maybe! Spare time is limited at present but you've convinced me.

Comments are indeed LP fuel, but here is what I discovered in the only full LP I did.

There will be infrequent comments during the LP, but after the end, comments shoot up. That's because some people prefer to read LPs in one go or because they reserve an judgment until it is ended.

So I thought two or three people were reading that LP, but it later turned out that maybe a close to a dozen or so followed it from start to finish. Which is the average for any LP, I guess.
