3. The infection probably has not spread here, so barring the possible encounter of another witch, all the guardsmen really have to worry about are rabbles of disorganized, poorly armed mutants. They could give them trouble with sufficient numbers, but overall they aren't great enough a concern for us to deviate from the course.

Mission is to fix the power couplings and we will done our duty no matter the cost. It is better to die for teh Emprah than live for yourself. :obviously::salute:

Besides We don't have an idea where squads are, how get to them and can only try to save one anyway.

"It's in the air!"

If it's the black ooze, the ship's already damned. :troll: Noone here is fully encapsulated in proper armor or wearing rebreathers anyhow. Let's just finish the objective, then we can speculate after. :salute:

Hey so I hear flamers are super effective at purging black ooze and squad members who have turned into plague zombies.

1.

On the other hand, if it is super-cooled engine fuel that has been frozen by exposure to space, maybe a flamer would just ignite it...

3.

On the other hand... maybe if we find these mutants we can show them our aquila tattoo and convince them to be redeemed.

2.

3 - We should finish our job quickly and then go to some place where our skills are actually needed. None of the squads actually asked for our help, so just get it done and try to get as much people out as possible afterwards.

3. Shepard has always (except when too many dumbfucks voted) gone for mission first and foremost. Stay in character

From earlier:

You all backtrack to the Valkyrie and you keep an eye out for the Inquisitor’s servo-skull, but it’s nowhere to be seen. Once you reunite with the other team they corroborate your findings: Dead cultists, tracks leading to the hive entrances, the foul ooze everywhere. One of them ventured inside one of the hive entrances for about half a kilometer and said the tunnels were covered in some sort of solid, glossy substance he couldn’t identify. He hands the Inquisitor the sample he took out of it.

I'm going to guess the inquisitor was careless with his sample after returning to the Thronum. The black substance is described distinctly from the ooze, so we might not be facing a zombie outbreak, but I'm pretty sure it's bad news.

Choice 3 is "in character," since we have acted as a Redeemer, not a Preventer. I.e., we don't keep bad shit from happening; we wait until said shit hits the fan, then we try to scrape it off the walls. But our character has had some doubts, and blindly executing the mission without consideration of emergent factors, and at the expense of the lives of his men, might not be his thing anymore. Moreover, if whatever xeno presence the black substance represents kills us all and overruns the hold, we are failing in our duty to the God-Emperor, regardless of whether we succeed in our given mission. (I.e., the manufactoria won't be usable if there's a nest of xeno killers in the middle of it.)

Choice 1 seems to be the smartest move, in the interest of putting down the biggest threat to our mission before it can grow, and hopefully without the loss of a quarter of our forces.

We must still be aware that if the black substance is super-cooled fuel, and we send in the heavy flamer, that we're in for a real toasty time...

If it's the ooze, then we'd be doing the right thing.

Obeying orders of our Superiors is the duty of Imperial Guardsman like Comander Captain Shepard, not saving lives who belong to teh Emprah anyway... Not doing stupid Heroics as this is Spahe Mehrines role.
Besides Did you noticed we don't have sealed Suits in this mission? Root bro would not send us facing such perils ill equiped... We could take part in intresting mission but No, so now shut up and do our Duty to Regiment and Emprah... makes His laspistol ready.

We still don't know enough to understand the xeno's physiology, but what I've got so far is:
1.) The ooze itself is a strong molecular acid.
2.) Its chief destructive power owes to mutagens inhabiting it.
3.) Said mutagens zombify people and may eventually turn those infected with it into xenos.

The solid, plastic-like black substance is something else. It seems plausible that the presence of a xeno or that of the solid black substance might not imply the presence of ooze or airborne mutagens. So sealed suits might not be necessary.

Its all coming together nicely, all that is missing is final showdown near airlock involving sentinel lifter, black ooze mutated genestealer/hive tyrant.

As to choice I have to go with 3) no need to bother with others, they are dead or possesed anyway. But yes lets ask Groshaw for opinion.
