I ran a tech with malicious blades for the UC. Got ripped apart bad by the big baddie at the end. 75% melee resist was far from enough. :M

You can easily close to melee range on the cyberdemon while he reloads if you turn on running.

As for melee, the only things that don't melee you are pain elementals and the real final boss iirc. Maybe either revenants or mancubi too, I recall them being buffed for melee recently, but it was probably jsut their damage, not switching to suicidal rocket barrages.

Also, I'm not sure if you're going to be able to use the melee resist for the UC if you don't find a combat knife soon. Unless you can wield nothing in your main hand and it still swings the offhand when you punch? I think juggler does something like that anyways.

Yeah but the blade needs to be in the off hand to get the resists. If you main the cleaver and then get into melee, you'll have no resists.

Malicious blades is probably the right choice, but whizkid is more interesting because it opens up more options.

That's what the chainsword is for, or did I drop it? o_O

update 20: Deimos lvl 6, much too soon

CCEBE1E071A8BE5054CB507536864E80C72FFBA4

New level, better find a knife or our build will be useless. Oh hey, a knife. That was easy. (and incredibly lucky)

F7B2B48CE1E199C8AB86CDF7AD9C21095B1C8DDF

Not taking any chances, I'd rather have the barrel blow up in my face than destroy the combat knife.

06EED59963F10C30EFAF8FEA11B7FAB36E67E4D6

And indeed barrels may blow up in my face because I hear... a revenant.

7E118326D02D7C728FC5B580CBEB58103BC9C780

I get the fuck away from there as quick as possible.

852F1C75C864F94E8AD4B19841FAB2FC47BE2F9E

We even kill someone with blindfire, how quaint. Let's have a look.

:retarded:
This isn't the place I want to be.

B9FA5646C1FB315CA948076F957B3BDD6252A837

Our first encounter with a revenant is a painful one. I didn't think we'd meet one now.

226B88CB53A04794F28413928AE86B14ECE55A0A

Might aswell blindfire him no matter the range. A bunch of flies go down with him.

Is it clear? let's venture with the missile launcher.

1778C2D3CF9E572CBE4D7C9F5CB30D6A8EFC084E

As soon as I step forward he hits me again, and we get knocked back, how cool.

9321D042C1BCBADDDF2B32484EC5F596A31A7212

And we waste him finally. On the plus side, he only did 15% damage, on the negative side, he did 15% damage.

9ED4ED0C75083F2F8FC865FE544ADDB2D9CCCC0B

Hardly any reprieve, another revenant assumes perfect rape position. I ready the missile launcher, that's our only hope.

64BB2FB8C7CD6EBC19D03C1406C0576247CFC588

He hits us again and with it we learned something valuable, we learned that going into inventory doesn't take 0.1 seconds.

81755EBEBE22EC050713A99DB6348EA74C522D04

A few rockets later and he's desperately crawling on his knees for the easy kill. I have to say the rocket launcher is reliable.

Level up! We're gonna take dodgemaster, because after our brilliant dodging of rockets so far, we must apply our skills to the cyberdemon.

DE2A70453C979C5930A418692DF5E0C31E710E41

Not shown, horrible pain elemental butchering. Thanks goodness he's easy.

I've never been so happy to find a health globe. Random health globes, the way to hide how much hp you really lost on a level.

The final room reveals health globes! dozens three of them!

1B12312404B985B3B4490ADD5006884544A5BD9D

We use up a medpack, but not because we needed to no, no, of course not. Because we want the combat knifie in our inventory.

D0ED9E6B41946B4FA0DC9391AC635715F588EDD7

After this rude awakening, we'll need all the health we can get.

Because the Spider's Lair is next.

Final Grade: B-
Hey, it should be a good thing that the revenants only took 15% hp or so, our build must be good! maybe

Prepare for the pain of the Spider's Nest. :smug:

I've found one weapon I like better than all the rest so far. A modified nuclear plasma rifle making it a burst cannon nuclear plasma rifle. It handily doubles its magazine and boosts damage as well. For this reason alone, I usually carry around the mods required to assemble it.
With that weapon and level 2 intuition, clearing normal levels is suddenly much less of a hassle.

That said, looking forward to how you're going to handle the Spider's Lair. Having lost 32 games (and won 4 :M ) now, I feel like I have a pretty good image of dos and don'ts, and looking at your trait distribution, the Spider's Lair has the potential to be quite painful. :salute:

Could also be incredibly easy (and profitable) if he does it right... but I think he'll do things the hard way. Which will be more entertaining anyways.

Yeah I don't really have much strategy for the Spider's Lair. We have a rocket launcher and 17 rockets and that's about it. And 2 BFGs of course.

Side note: just finished Angel of Shotgunnery. :yeah:
The mastermind was a bit scary, as I'd messed up and had to face it armorless. Just managed to scrape by however. :salute:

Congrats, I could never do it and I must've tried 15 times. What's your secret? I painfully learned that I needed Army of the Dead, but that's all.

No big secret, but yes. Army of the Dead. Shottyman helps. Fire, move away from the monster, fire again. The first two mods I found were power mods, meaning I rather early on had an elephant gun. That helped. Didn't get to assemble a tactical shotgun until after the cyberdemon, otherwise that would have been my priority.

I guess I just took it slow and careful. Being restricted to shotguns also meant that I could ignore all other types of ammo. That clears up the inventory something nice. :incline: There was one hairy situation, where I spawned on a level right next to 5 arachnotrons, but a phase device saved the day. I think that was on level 23.. Would've been a real shame to die there.

Was quite lucky and got an invulnerability sphere just next to the stairs leading to the cyberdemon fight, so won that without taking damage. And the lava element was what made taking down the mastermind possible, what with me screwing up and ending up armorless for that fight.

Mind you, this was my fifth attempt at that challenge, the others have died before even reaching the bruiser brothers.

update 21: Deimos lvl 6, a set level

music

16C839B357C3A919CE122E7102A3AC368FB755AE

Let's do this. I'm not afraid.

C77BA2A9D4C0AE79BC8AECC314527A765FCBC97E

5CC41C850CBACD4E4F9AA0A0BABFC9C54BB10278

I vaguely remember something about rushing? Going to the left doesn't work. May it's to the right.

372D894248AFD19ACF02DA14B5426DDF410B73E1

:hmmm:
Oh fuck. That didn't work either. I have the feeling that as soon as the grace period ends, 7 arachnotrons have their guns within range of me. On the bright side, you get to see the level layout, I never really noticed until today that you start in an ambush with every single enemy spawn camping you.

CE3426A45D8FF0383467563BE7090CA8FC01CD84

Maybe I can break out of this, let's see how the BFG holds up.

A1442E25E5DBBE2B5C5D6DB52EA9F919877A8ADC

No one dies and no other shots line up. Maybe if I shoot again...

1CD4AB7E6D2642B0FA58CD48DE211DF79192C912

Now they're angry. Let's just use a phase device and be done with it.

43F536F6A49D9BB11616BE24BB4FBC1E39D0F901

Perfect phase! I instantly feel safe and know I'll have time to reload and setup everything properly.

DF96A18ABB2FB28C80F674108A3BF8D3FC229060

They can teleport now so we have our rocket launcher ready for them. All we need to do is rocket the nine remaining arachnotrons and we're done. It should go well, I hope.

53A827E60D8BA53020873A5C140D955DA18898F3

The first surprises us and takes a big chunk of life.

F50C0EBA4C221E33FE025268D9E2F36C9170DE09

I wonder if I have what it takes to win in a fair fight with them. Will we get eight more ambushes?

62969429DA0E97AEBC5C7915B9CF8DFFC1175D1D

Two more at least.

0C947EA47D9D27906B36124C27C554B6F3B8E87E

The arachnotrons keep hitting us and this rocket launcher makes hiding behind cover very risky. There's just no strategy!

0E4041E385170148B299DA3D3508D756AFE616BA

FFFFFFFFFFFFFF, just when things go well I start to have ammo problems. Gotta pop behind cover and reload, if only we also had health regeneration.

88DC3CB260DD6D1EB05E4D3DC21195E1C81B5315

How did it get so bad? Two lousy spiders took almost all my health away. I reload and use my first medpack...

60C4BA1228A33A7D5F8F6781B065942524FF7B33

The fucker is still not dead btw. Finally a quick burst should do it.

2090A2765D638AB44E2D7FF6AACB8FF4BB34B340

We regroup, let's move forward.

B63DA6348B85FE72648735AABF30E2440F331236

87514B7FB93553A08B509CE4455ACC5DEC8CE31B

Ambushed again. The good news is that I'm taking less damage that I thought I would, they only get to fire once and do maximum 10% per burst, that's entirely manageable.

FB238837D84E4EEBBFED958DF982841FD9AE7322

We finally get to surprise one, down to four.

BACC394974B78F392BE022E3D8D3528C5411DE52

F273987115FCDD12F3F9587CD4E6183CA8CDFD7B

913E39F0C1140166649B685AE61AF8633AB53625

Down to three. I remember that we've just taken dodgemaster last update and so start making use of it.

964AC1487CD2CB8D6B70DEE7AF5E010D162E3154

2B684EB1D72AE4605293949C8C9725588901EA58

Yeah, dodging saving the day. This should go well, wooo!

1A1A52D984CB94081BE6A226A1120ADB69ECDD86

Two left. Except that I'm getting worried by the fact the missile launcher is destroying the plasma ammo so I switch to the plasma.

11C495E885B56137E7C0E7EA0A22E846105ABFA2

Terrible decision. The next surprises us as always but because the plasma doesn't kill as quickly and the dodging sort of fails, we find ourselves close to death.

4B69D157110A9A60E5FA4E61C988C7D109D36BFC

medpack #2 used. What have we learned to defeating arachnotrons? First you need speed, lots of speed, and second you need to heal fast and get out of danger fast, the technician is good at those later things.

47C883E96E034B1D9522EB8EBE5AA5D29E42B8EC

8DFBB986300C1D3AE3602965AF327F92074EB37D

The last one barely scratches us. All done!

E97D3A0475634F41A2ACD46846C97050EC19DE95

Wait a minute, there's plasma ammo everywhere now. I really shouldn't have switched to the plasma rifle at the end there.

994932755945E20CFFC9C0A06C6EF9833F7E79CE

At least we have room for everything we want.

FE75265E9D0714D8C2390BD96D6CAC5A2611D581

That second large medpack really left a hole in our inventory though. And just like that we are down from 10 to 5 medpacks. Funny how things change so quickly.

62FBA45FA2EDF6517708B08523998B7F533C750E

The hair on my back may even be standing straight again as things get tighter. Next up should be the last Deimos level.

Final Grade: D
They didn't kill us.

Spider's Lair is pain, pure pain. :incline:

Well, the most fun I've had there was with a fast-running, butcher's cleaver wielding scout who ambushed and whacked them in melee while wall-dancing. :smug:

It's the best way to get out of the Arachnotron ambush. Bee-line for a teleporter, get 'ported behind one of the 4 walls (which depends on what teleporter you chose), then prepare a Cunning Plan. :salute:

New level and the first thing we see is an exotic item, WOOOO.

F860A7BF041D2E2453C5B5C1DE57626699864A96

Let's pull the Cleaver and get our confidence back with an easy kill.

79A5CF2C1354E88D26F872BF62563D1E2CBBC67A

This needs to be an easy level to get us ready for the cyber demon.

89CD8FB77F815C273DA29D91D548FC4810830560

Two shots, one kill, I really like our new gun too.

FFDBD0626C18BFFB015C662EE5992032519AC423

Beginning to feel this is a cacodemon-only level. That's cool I guess.

FD6141FE0A82A47DDD8B6FA2514ED899772B2D17

D76EABE8C325E5F6834D1CEDB8F63F447D96BCBC

The dude doesn't want to die in 2 shots.

8D62CD03ECA7A673BB09FB05E8F3260AFAF785C3

Switching to the normal ammo plasma to finish him quickly.

251A9FE0C1F3D48E66DE771F79C9FE3F62A5C8FA

You'd think 1 shot would be enough, but no, it took 3. Fuck you.

79A30767F396C3774C640576BE579B31C79404B5

4524A71EFFA432265DA7BB9AAE2413A093267050

I can't dodge. Not that I care in the slightest, cacodemons are easy by now.

C3EB655F4F889B4DA2195FE551508375DF8ABBB0

The level layout is really good, it brings us back to those easier levels. And there's berserk pack by the stairs, YEAH.

152227B36B7B49572C24F7C61BF81BB59CF31878

Technical mod pack, interesting. We've had almost no mod packs in Deimos.

CF35E64611ED71542D33F58D349976FB9C1C0B17

These next cacodemons are a bit hard to kill. Though I can hear them, the lava makes it hard to navigate.

B033B09C4D2312922B344E02EBFAD20C26DDB791

I fire a shot or two and just retreat to let the nuclear plasma recharge, there's no rush. Only my health that's going down with every move.

87AEC5F9C84B1B3CA911901A985A69FDB08DF5DC

10E6E49F36092E6DF3924CE672F5E6E2A90033BD

I dodged that one like a pro, you'd have to be pretty stupid not to in these wide open spaces...

E04ECEA632BAFB65B26AA86D5E7A41166ED87AE9

Unfortunately things slow down as I am cautious and for some reason the AI is equally cautious. They're out there, I just can't see them.

1723AA03FEA33BDC39A2D5C6A0AA75CBF790E066

Holy shit, he was close.

CBE4BA53F31E42038A13CCA253E8FFAE31DD8D10

And he was the only one left. I fail another dodge amazingly too.

127A037A22348E5F89E649CFDCE1D80DED67B47D

B3FE076297908607F83A428F52BD24FF9B0EB970

Where should the tech mod pack go? I still miss the loss of my chainsword, but I can't assemble that. It looks like the boots can finally benefit.

F78BD7AA672CBF1ADA4F2C01B6948FA884201422

The boots are upgraded to -75% knockback, very useful against the cyber demon and later it may become fireproof boots. What nice little luck we had there.

A6E92DDE3576BED9A74753333D312DA3AC2DEB15

The exotic armor is kinda bad, just a bullet proof vest. But I don't know why I'm so giddy picking this up, even though Iwe threw an old better armor away a few updates ago. We could always upgrade it with an onyx pack and laugh at the spider mastermind. To keep for now.

EFD5D94630C1FEA800555ED6AA7A254204418337

Let's do this properly. My armor isn't the greatest against the cyberdemon, but it should hold a bit, I fear his rockets. I also equip a BFG 9000 and the power battery, we want the showdown with him to go as smoothly as possible. The ammo should be enough for some quick shots.

3D356C102F77BC841F0CD64239CD93A368A84461

Our last objective is to use the berserk packs and go in. The level actually has two of them, nice!

976E1CD9A471AC886AFF63EF81B9DE2080AE11F9

203880C744915280DF995D0A9741646D6A01D6A7

Thanks to this easy level we are well prepared to take on the cyberdemon, I hope it all goes well and WE DONT USE ANY MEDPACKS.
