So, after much debate about an idiot who was going to do a LP of a game that already has a LP going, I start with no promises of ever finishing:

DUM, DUM, DUM DUM!

ICEWIND DALE 2 LP!

So, here's the rules.

First, what makes my life easier:
- Edited chars with an editor. Stats that matter are set to 18. Unedited it due to cries of overpoweredness

Second, what fucks me:
- The most useless classes in d&d! There's a fighter and a mage, because otherwise I would not leave the prologue, but the other characters will be a Barbarian, a Rogue and a Druid!
- 150% monster damage, and only 100% experience! In IWD2, there's no bonus XP for higher difficulty. Normal difficulty.
- There's something else, it will be pretty clear on the first update.

I will save and reload to my hearts content, because fuck you guys, I already have real life to give me ulcers. The difficulty might be lowered in case there's a fight I can't win after some tries.

And... If there's anything I'm forgetting, ask away.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TABLE OF CONTENTS:

We start!
The errands, they are a constant in every RPG
We reach the end of the Targos section! Hurray!
Orc fuckery
Orckery fuck
Finally, a non orc-centric update.
Animal husbandry.
In the valley of the shadow of reloading.
In moist and dark places. But not the good ones.
Underground cows and bats.
Reaching the fortress, finally!
Killing everything inside the fortress, finally!
Crashing and burning. Mostly crashing. Not much of burning
On half-dragons!
Ice economics.
Watch out, this neighbourhood is full of negromancers
This is Targos all over again!
Errand Boy, part deux. Shaken, not stirred.
The smell of dragons
The horror, the horror...
(S)He broke free.
The Underdark!

Index on hold until the search comes back.

Don't want to discourage You, but we already have an IWD LP going on here - and it's pretty good, so You're up for a challenge.

That said, You might want to consider playing in Heart of Fury mode (instead of nightmare, for example) - killing the first enemies will be a pain, but increeased XP gain will pay off. I'm not sure if nightmare in IWD also provides bonus XP.

As for the party, if You go with two party members, I suggest a fighter/thief (archer tank build) and a cleric/mage (slingshot ftw). If there are three chars, Your class suggestion is a good idea, I think (although, maybe a pure/specialist mage would be better than a multi-classed one in the long run).

I vote 3, btw. IWD will rape Your ass anyway.

If you do an IWD playthru do it on HoF if you like to cheese. Insane or however the difficulty called with double damage ain't so hard coz you also get double XP, so your party members will seriously outlevel everything, and once you acquire haste you will roflmow thru everything.
edit: full mage is a waste i think (unless HoF). High level mage spells are pretty lack lusters.

Oh shit, we already have an IWD LP?

Crap. I don't like the idea of HoW very much. The game seems boring in that mode, because everything take ages to kill.

Yes. I even mentioned it as one of my inspirations too. LINK.

EDIT:

how bout IWD2?

Yeah, how about that?

Well, let me check first if there isn't one already...

EDIT: Well, fuck me, there's no Icewind Dale 2 LP being updated. Right now I have life to deal with, but later I will either start an Icewind Dale 2 LP, or some other game.

Screenshot-5_11_201016_55_38.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201016_55_46.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- NO, BLOODY NO! IF I NEVER SEE A BOAT AGAIN IT WILL BE TO SOON!

Screenshot-5_11_201016_55_56.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201016_56_09.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201016_56_12.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- He's the one with the gold, I hope.

Screenshot-5_11_201016_56_18.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201016_56_26.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- OF COURSE I WAS A SAINT, I WAS TOO BUSY PUKING MY GUTS OUT.

sir-1.jpg
- Fucker.

Screenshot-5_11_201016_57_00.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- What the hell with this many people talking?

Screenshot-5_11_201016_57_08.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- I meant to say *I* have come from Luskan, since there's only me here.

sir-1.jpg
- AND DON'T EVEN START TO BITCH ABOUT HELP FROM LUSKAN.

(two screenshots less of they bitching about help from Luskan)

Screenshot-5_11_201016_57_28.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- It helps to fight when you still have non-pierced internal organs.

Screenshot-5_11_201016_57_34.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201016_57_44.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- On second thought, it was BLOODY OBVIOUS GOBLIN ATTACK.

sir-1.jpg
- I don't want to know, I assume you will want something to heal it, and bring it later for you.

sir-1.jpg
- Goodbye

Screenshot-5_11_201016_58_21.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Bloody shitty weapon.

Screenshot-5_11_201016_58_29.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- I could make a better armor braiding the hairs of my arse and gluing them with spit.

Screenshot-5_11_201016_59_52.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Oh, a goblin.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_00_01.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Oh, a dead goblin.

sir-1.jpg
- I don't know what is the fuss. Those green fuckers could be killed by a child.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_00_50.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- *I* am an advent... Oh, forget it.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_00_55.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Not that's impressive or nothing. I mean, you could fart at their general direction and they would die.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_01_04.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201017_01_08.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Less dialog, I like him already

Screenshot-5_11_201017_01_27.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- A couple more dead pests.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_01_39.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Let's see what we can find there.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_01_55.jpg

Screenshot-5_11_201017_02_03.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Nothing much, but better than nothing.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_02_24.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- A tavern. Good place to look for help. I imagine that when these goblins stop the attack something dangerous might appear

sir-1.jpg
- Hey, guys, the city is under "attack" by goblins. After our grandmothers drive them out, I suspect something dangerous might attack us for real. I am here to help, and I want to know who is with me?

- Silence -

sir-1.jpg
- Bloody drunks...

barb-1.jpg
- Hey, good morning my good gentleman. I think I am up to the task at hand.

sir-1.jpg
- Oh, a Barbarian, great, your raging ability will help us greatly.

barb-1.jpg
- Well, while I do have many great combat skills, I don't rage.

sir-1.jpg
- What, how can you be a bloody barbarian and don't rage?

barb-1.jpg
- Well, I find no reason to do so. My opponents simply view the world differently than I do. Why am going to rage at someone for essentially being someone? If anything, I would prefer to debate our different views. There was one time, when I met this fascinating swamp hag that hoarded baby meat...

sir-1.jpg
- Alright, alright, I don't need to hear anything, you are in.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_46_27.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Anyone else?

wiz-1.jpg
- Me

sir-1.jpg
- You are a wizard, I assume.

wiz-1.jpg
- You assume correctly. I will add my skills to our cause.

wiz-1.jpg
- But uh... Right now, I can't cast any spells.

sir-1.jpg
- You aren't rested?

wiz-1.jpg
- Not exactly. My powers will return in a few days, rest assured.

sir-1.jpg
- Well, I'm sorry to hear that, but we can't have a wizard at our backs whose powers might fail

wiz-1.jpg
- My powers are fine, they won't fail

sir-1.jpg
- But...

wiz-1.jpg
- Look, it's a seasonal thing, it's fine.

sir-1.jpg
- And how can you know when they will be available or not?

wiz-1.jpg
- I KNOW WHEN!

sir-1.jpg
- That's hardly convincing at all, and in the battlefield...

wiz-1.jpg
- LOOK, I JUST CAN'T CAST SPELLS ON MY PERIOD, ALL RIGHT?

- Whole bar looks -

wiz-1.jpg
- Ahem...

sir-1.jpg
- Al... Alright, lass, I'm sorry I asked.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_46_29.jpg

mort-1.jpg
- Mr Dwarfington, I want to contribute too.

barb-1.jpg
- Mort, good friend! Never thought I would see you around these parts!

mort-1.jpg
- Barbaric! Old chap! What a coincidence

sir-1.jpg
- You are friends, I assume.

barb-1.jpg
- Yes, yes, I was at his son coming of age. Of course we are!

sir-1.jpg
- Well, he's in, then. It's good for morale when the group is already know to each other.

- Sir Dwarfington looks at Mortimer -

sir-1.jpg
- So, we have a barbarian who don't rage, a wizard that can't cast. I suppose you don't steal?

mort-1.jpg
- No, I steal alright.

sir-1.jpg
- And what is you horrible disadvantage?

mort-1.jpg
- Other than being a rogue in d&d3 ?

sir-1.jpg
- Point taken.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_46_31.jpg

sir-1.jpg
- Now, we need some healer. A cleric. Even a paladin might do.

liz-1.jpg
- A druid maybe?

sir-1.jpg
- Well, not at the top of my list in usefulness, but...

liz-1.jpg
- Oh, I'm sorry then...

sir-1.jpg
- What? Oh, no lass, we take all the help we can get. A druid it is.

liz-1.jpg
- Okay. I can heal alright, but I'm not very good at dealing with animals.

liz-1.jpg
- In fact, they attack me on sight.

liz-1.jpg
- Once I had this crow try to peck my eyes out, the damned thing followed me for a week. I had to sleep with leather armor over my face...

sir-1.jpg
- ... Alright.

Screenshot-5_11_201017_46_34.jpg

- And Sir Dwarfington -

Screenshot-5_11_201017_46_24.jpg

Next update, we do menial tasks for the village... Unless you want me to skip that part.

Regarding the update, I will enforce what the characters said:

- The wizard won't cast spells 5 days a month, since we start at day 0, she will be able to cast spells at day 5, then unable again in day 30 through 34, etc.

- The barbarian will not rage

- The druid will not use the animal companion, nor summon any animals.

That's the third "What will fuck me" of the first post.

And fuck me it will...

The next update should be sometime this saturday.

I like the characterization, but Your party seems a bit overpowered with all the 18s and 16s. I played IWD2 only once and a long time ago, but I don't remember it being very hard. Maybe I'm wrong.

These self-induced handicaps are an interesting concept. Not sure if they'll do well in the field - we'll see, I guess.

It seems we'll have to wait for Merk's LP to get that.

Well, I played it some time ago, and though it was not especially brutal, it had some tough fights. And I played with a serious party, with two fighters, a cleric, two mages and a sixth class that I don't remember.

Considering that a druid is a crappy version of a cleric, a barbarian is basically a crippled fighter, and a rogue is more or less 1/2 of a fighter...

Also, the difficult setting messes with the monsters saving throws too, so putting everybody to sleep/charming/paralyzing won't be so effective.

But looking at it, yeah, I may have overdone it. If the audience asks, I will tone it down a bit, or increase the difficulty to 200% monster damage (and increased saving throws).

EDIT: I might have to use .jpg instead of .png. It seems I have already 5% of the storage space in photobucket, and 1% of the monthly bandwidth, with nobody in the audience. Anybody has any complaints/suggestions, feel free to post.

EDIT2: Anybody knows how to make a text with a link embedded? I put the first update on the first post, but I don't know how to make it properly.

I really disliked IWD, and so never felt like giving its sequel a chance, but I'd be interested in seeing what I missed. Wasn't it the first CRPG to use 3e rules ? And are there as many traps as in IWD 1 ?

The errands, they are a constant in every RPG

Screenshot003.jpg

So, the party buys some equipment, and get's out of the tavern to find some goblins

Screenshot004.jpg

Just to see equipment throw on the ground.

:rage:

Screenshot011.jpg

We find some goblins.

barb.png
- It's a wonder those things can do any damage at all. Look, I can just stand here while he "beats" me, and I'm just fine. Maybe they should be made pets or something.

wiz.png
- Somebody would need to bath them first. They smell a peculiar mixture of sweat, farts, and sewage, with a unexpected hint of pine.

barb.png
- What do you think they eat?

barb.png
- Well, it must be meat of course, look at their teeth.

- Barbaric! holds one of the goblins heads and pulls it's mouth open -

barb.png
- Yeah, but this one is hitting you for five minutes straight, and it has not been able to even scratch you.

barb.png
- Yes, it's a wonder.

The party goes around the town, slaughtering the goblinoids

Screenshot013.jpg

Screenshot015.jpg

While finding more equipment thrown away

Screenshot016.jpg

Screenshot017.jpg

Screenshot018.jpg

Screenshot020.jpg

Screenshot022.jpg

The party enters the warehouse

barb.png
- I would rather enter the whorehouse.

sir.png
- Indeed.

Screenshot023.jpg

We encounter some goblins

Screenshot024.jpg

And proceed to the obvious conclusion

Screenshot025.jpg

And to loot the place, finding nothing of useful

Screenshot027.jpg

But the day is not yet lost, because we find a DEAD CAT!

Screenshot028.jpg

We enter the basement, to find this series of caverns.

Screenshot029.jpg

Screenshot030.jpg

I really don't think these are any fun for you guys to watch. It is not fun for me to do. Just goblins.

Screenshot032.jpg

sir.png
- I think I know how these goblins eat

liz.png
- How?

sir.png
- They keep going at you until you are too fatigued to kill them, and when you drop of exhaustion, they eat you.

barb.png
- That's a very real possibility

Screenshot033.jpg

We process* a goblin sapper
*process = find, kill, loot

Screenshot034.jpg

And find this. It will be useful, especially while Wizerella can't cast.

Screenshot035.jpg

Stupid goblins can't even explode things properly

Screenshot037.jpg

Our first "not stupidly easy" fight. But still ridiculously easy.

Screenshot038.jpg

I try to position Mortimer to take advantage of his sneak attack. I don't think he does the deed this fight, but regardless, the battle ends quickly

Screenshot039.jpg

Screenshot040.jpg

Stupid non-identified scroll

sir.png
- Wizerella, can you, ahem, identify this scroll?

wiz.png
- ... No

Screenshot043.jpg

Having finished our business down there, we return...

Screenshot045.jpg

And report our findings. The guy tell us nothing important, just to look for Ulbrec

Screenshot050.jpg

We decide to enter this place. It's a pain in the arse to go around killing goblins.

Screenshot052.jpg

To sum it up, this guys, by the means of around 57 to 76 screens of dialog, tells us to loot the place, because it's an emergency. And while we loot the place, guess what happens? An ogre enters the place, followed by a few orc shamans and orc warriors.

Screenshot059.jpg

Not really. Just some goblins.

Screenshot060.jpg

sir.png
- Where's Mortimer? -Screams- MORTIMER, WHERE ARE YOU?

mort.png
- -Screams back- JUST A SECOND, LOOTING THE PLACE.

sir.png
- Bloody thief -Screams to Mortimer- JUST DON'T GET BITTEN IN THE LEGS, WE DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO PUT YOU TO SLEEP

mort.png
- -Imitates horse-

Screenshot062.jpg

sir.png
- These bloody goblins have nothing on their pockets. We look down, and their pockets are bulging, but there's only lint, rocks and 1 or 2 coins. The effort to loot their corpses is bigger than the trouble to kill them!

barb.png
- Yes, I'm not so young anymore, crouching is killing my knees. Much more so than those goblin blows.

And indeed, the extra two clicks to collect the gold are not worth the effect in game.

Screenshot064.jpg

Screenshot066.jpg

We loot the place, and find these Iron Rations, that restore 3 hp, and Lamp Oil

Screenshot068.jpg

Here we see that you can sneak attack a barrel. Those things can detect you, so you can sneak past them?
What about crates? Can they look at you too?
BEWARE, a barrel might be watching you masturbate!

Screenshot071.jpg

The party leaves the lower town, or whatever that's called, and goes to the upper side.

Screenshot074.jpg

Screenshot075.jpg

Screenshot076.jpg

Screenshot077.jpg

Screenshot078.jpg

barb.png
- -Scooby-Doo style - GH-GH-GH-GHOOOOST!!
sir.png
- -Scooby-Doo style - GH-GH-GH-GHOOOOST!!
liz.png
- -Scooby-Doo style - GH-GH-GH-GHOOOOST!!
wiz.png
- -Scooby-Doo style - GH-GH-GH-GHOOOOST!!
mort.png
- -Scooby-Doo style - GH-GH-GH-GHOOOOST!!

The party leaves the building.

Whole party - LET'S NAIL THIS DOOR SHUT

Whole party - AGREED!

Screenshot095.jpg

sir.png
- Let's never talk about that incident again. Especially if it's dark.

barb.png
- What incident?

sir.png
- Exactly

Screenshot096.jpg

We enter the Inn and talk to the bartender

Screenshot105.jpg

Screenshot106.jpg

sir.png
- Jesus, that indicated a lot of pain in his underside.

Screenshot107.jpg

Loot ...

Screenshot111.jpg

The place...

Screenshot121.jpg

And because I deleted the screenshots (trust me, there was NOTHING to be seen in them), we teleport to Ulrec's place

Screenshot122.jpg

Screenshot123.jpg

Screenshot124.jpg

Screenshot125.jpg

Screenshot126.jpg

It seems we did not deal with all the goblins yet.

Groans

We leave...

Screenshot127.jpg

And enter this house...

Screenshot128.jpg

To talk to this guy

Screenshot129.jpg

Screenshot130.jpg

Screenshot131.jpg

Screenshot132.jpg

And the fight starts

Screenshot134.jpg

How, nice, a sleep spell that doesn't allow saving!

Screenshot137.jpg

And this is the result. First reload

Screenshot143.jpg

This time, I use the lamp oil.

Screenshot145.jpg

And the forgot it's name that also explodes. And...

Screenshot148.jpg

Incline?

Screenshot149.jpg

Not really. The oils kill most of the goblins, but the sleep spell goes off anyway.

Screenshot152.jpg

And Barbaric is killed by a level 1 spell doing 18 damage. 1 shotted by a level 1 spell. A barbarian with 18 of con.
Who said my party was overpowered?
Second reload.

Screenshot160.jpg

This time, knowing the sleep will go off anyway, I try to scatter the party.

Screenshot162.jpg

Looks good, all minus one of the goblins are dead, only two of my guys are sleeping.
But you guys will have to trust me on this one, because I did not SS it, but someone suffers a gruesome death, and I had to reload. Third time.

Screenshot163.jpg

The start of the fight.

Screenshot164.jpg

Party scattered

Screenshot165.jpg

And the bastard is down! Hurray!

sir.png
- Finally that bugger went down! Let's loot the place.
sir.png
- Hmm, a locked container. Where's Mortimer?
sir.png
- BLOODY HELL, the bugger is still asleep!

Screenshot166.jpg

Sir Dwarfington kicks Mortimer

sir.png
- Wake up you bugger, there are locks to be picked!

mort.png
- Uh? What? Oh, calm down man, I was resting the eyes a bit

sir.png
- Resting!? Fuck rest, do you want to stay in this prologue ultill the end of time? MOVE!

mort.png
- Jesus, slavery is over, didn't you hear?

mort.png
- I'm not even black, for christ sakes...

Screenshot169.jpg

The party rests, and leaves the building, it's night time

Screenshot171.jpg

We find Oswald Fiddlebender, and we skip his long and pointless chatter. Really, nobody goes to the point in this game.

Screenshot176.jpg

We take a look at his shop

mort.png
- What?! 87 gold pieces for a healing potion? This is highway robbery!

mort.png
- And I might add, if there's something I know about, it's highway robbery!

mort.png
- Let's go, I wouldn't buy a potion here, even if my mother, had I not sold her, needed it to cure cancer or something

liz.png
- You sold your mother?

mort.png
- Yes.

liz.png
- But... How? Who would buy a mother?

mort.png
- C'mon, there are plenty of orphans in the world, anyone of them would give a lot to have a mother.

liz.png
- Yes, but... You can't become someone's son just because you bought a mother. This is nonsense!

liz.png
- And orphans hardly have any money at all, I doubt you would sell anything cheap, much less your mother!

- Do you really want to know about it?

- ... I don't.

I forgot to take a look at Phen's loot. We find this, and equip it in Wizerella. Also, we finish the slaughtering of goblins and report to Ulric.

This second update turned out huge. And I did cut back on the number of screens. Several dialogs were shortened, and several battle scenes too.

And I haven't left the start of the game. Well, I hope that as dialogue diminishes, the thing get's a bit more compact.

I really disliked IWD, and so never felt like giving its sequel a chance, but I'd be interested in seeing what I missed. Wasn't it the first CRPG to use 3e rules ? And are there as many traps as in IWD 1 ?

Yes, it uses third edition rules. I don't think there are many traps though. There are some...

More infinity engine shit? Jesus christ. I don't see how playing this shit is less shameful than playing world of warcraft

Also chars are overpowered, don't know what you're thinking, this game isn't hard you equip sword and kill monster

Doing everything I can to crash this, of course

:(

This makes me a sad panda.

My first choice was IWD1, to see how much cheese I could get, with only three chars, but there's already an IWD1 LP

My second choice was W40k Chaos Gate, but I can only run it on a win98 Virtual Machine, and I don't have any screenshot thing that works on win98

My third choice was JA2 1.13, but Overweight Manatee already has one LP on-going (on hold at the moment, but from the thread, I understood he was going to start again).

My fourth choice was Icewind Dale 2.

Like I said, the chars are OP, but I'm playing on 150% damage, with shitty classes. However, if more people think I should, I will increase the difficulty and/or tone down the chars.
