Another game KGB reminded me of is Hidden Agenda, a great (and pretty grim) simulator of governing a chaotic banana republic.

It seems similar to Floor 13, except set in latin america instead of the UK. I'll make sure to check it up!

Any other game similar to KGB?
If there is, it's even more obscure than this game already is.

Cryo did some fantastic stuff back in the day, before they made Atlantis and eventually fucked off. I'm actually replaying Dune right now. Goddamn, what a nice adventure/strategy hybrid it is!

edit: Check out Dune. I command you.

I heard the game Maupiti Island, and to a lesser extend the game It Came from the Desert, are both somewhat similar to KGB. Anyone has an opinion on this?

I tried It Came from the Desert. It is a okay game, but it felt more like an action game with a few puzzles thrown in. The intrigue is kind of weak, too.

Maupiti Island is probably one of the few games that make KGB look easy. Sadly this is in good part due to extremely hard pixel hunting as well as an horrible dialog system. Still, it is really satisfying to figure out everything that happened on that small island. If you try to beat this game you will probably need help, so here is a (French) youtube video on how to win: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab7qTE0ZJ30

I heard good things about The Last Express, so I'm going to try that next.

Another good game in the same spirit of KGB is probably The Rise of the Dragon. I liked the time-based system and the Blade Runner look.

If it isn't old Gorbachev. What's an important fellow like you doing in a place like this?

kgbprg_008.png

Footsteps behind me.

kgbprg_009.png

Major Vovlov and Major Savinkov are in front of me.

The Gorbachev lookalike is Protopopov. It should be clear now why he was involved in this mind-altering psychoexperiments.

kgbprg_014.png

Just as Cut-Throat predicted.

Didn't work.

kgbprg_041.png

Won't do it.

kgbprg_042.png

Then there's noise behind us.

A new pair join the room.

kgbprg_043.png

My Uncle Vanya and his nurse-dude.

kgbprg_045.png

"Comrade colonel Rukov"?

kgbprg_071.png

kgbprg_072.png

Vovlov is about to stir.

I take the opportunity to grab the gun that Savinkov had dropped.

kgbprg_073.png

kgbprg_075.png

I shoot him.

He drops, clutching the wound.

kgbprg_076.png

kgbprg_077.png

kgbprg_078.png

Vovlov dies.

Suddenly, Protopopov, the Gorbachev lookalike, begins to speak, reciting the brainwashed lines fed to him. He speaks as Gorbachev, announcing his resignation as was planned:

This is still one of the best endings I have ever seen in a game. GOD DAMN!
