We weaken the two strongest monsters.


Next the bronze faced mage uses some magic...

He uses the same magic as the Holy Sect units ("Holy Magic", actually is mostly dark elemental magic, with no relation with the gods). The first two spells are ranged attacks against a single unit, the other two area attacks.

Rance assaults the galmonster

And Rick finishes off the guardian. The small fry don't last long.

We enter the first room, and surprise, surprise, it's packing full of monsters.

But they are no threat to Rance-sama.


After cleansing the room...

"Yes. If we crush all of these, Upsilon should be nothing more than a figurehead."

"Alright, I'm gonna destroy it."

"Deryaaaaaaaaaaa!! Rance Attatatatatatatataccccckk!!"

The light filling the column fades, and the column crumbles to pieces.

We will repeat the process with the other columns…

Two down. We move to the 3rd.



The Maus in the room is turned to scraps after a Brutal Attack. Some Kamikazes remain.

After clearing the room Rance breaks the column.

And we move to the last room…

The “Magician”s try their best…

…and fail.

With this the four columns in this level are broken.



Next we move to the Underground Power Area.

These rooms are identical to the others. We deal with the monsters and the columns the same way.

One after another our foes fall and the columns are shattered.

"Hmph, how underhanded. We'll kick his ass with my glorious Rance Army!"

Boss Theme.

First we will need to deal with the Hitlers.


Since Rance can’t reach them yet, he get as closest to the ones in the left and attacks Upsilon with Brutal Attack.

That's a nice start.


I send Leila to deal with ones in the right. Thanks to her naginata’s extra reach she attacks in the first turn.

Rick on the other hand is to slow, so I just send him against Upsilon.

Lastly I cast all the area attacks…

With this the Hitlers are weakened.

Turn 2.

Sill kills a Hitler.

Leila deal’s with another one.

Next turn I Rance Attack Upsilon.

Hubert and Athena kill the 3rd Hitler.


They try to fight back.

After killing all the henchmen we concentrate our attacks on Upsilon.

We have already taken more than a third of his HP, but…

"Source of my power, give me strength."

He is back at full health.





But we will keep attacking.

But his attacks are deadly.

More than 100 points of damage to the overleveled Rance. Better keep him at full health.

We keep hitting him with all we got, but unless we can use our best attacks, we don’t even get close to 1000 points of damage in one turn, and he will probably regenerate way more than that if he sees fit.


Even worse his attacks are more and more brutal.

This requires a change of tactics...

If we don't do anything about Cynthia, we won't stand a chance against this cheater and his infinite energy.

I spun the Return Bonsai around and the scenery around me started to blur. The transfer is starting.

The moment the magic hit, we teleported.

Monsters shuffled out into the passageway loud enough that I could sense them without Kanami's help.

This is it.

The last fight.

Rebirth of the Edge.


In my first time beating this game a few years ago, I was underleveled and this was one of my most intense and memorable fights.
Pitted against a strong and regenerating enemy, who beats your allies one by one, and reinforcements showing up in the nick of time (and of course what happens during the fight...).
More emotionally engaging that all the Bioware and FF games put together.

Of course I'm a bit too overleveled...

I start with Brutal Attack fueled by blind fury, while the allies attack from a safe distance.
The wiki recommends getting out of melee range until the cooldown for the special attack refreshes (Upsilon's ranged attack is way weaker than his punch) but with the current level I won't need to (I made sure to have a toon of healing items).


Upsilon counters with his ranged attack (thankfully).

A couple of turns of Rance attacks and Fire blasts later...

We will need to keep hitting him...and recovering our health.

With his best attacks cooling down, Rance switches to the more mundane strikes...

Our mages too run out of usefull spells, this is starting to get nasty...but we get some help.

With our new strenght we resume the pain dealing...

Even Julia does her patriotic duty!

Those are the most humiliating 14 points of damage Upsilon ever took.


But Upsilon's fist punches rance under 1/3 of HP.

Ouch...


We have managed to get him close to 5000HP, but this is pointless. He will drain Sill energy again...

"Come on out, Feliss. I'm calling for you."

When I called for her, Feliss appeared out of thin air.

"Yes, Master. Do you need something?"

"Of coure I need you, that's why I called you."

"This is an order, Feliss. Save Sill and return to town or somewhere."

"Using the same method as before, I presume?"

"Yeah. Go!"

"This girl, right? It'd be nice if all of my orders were this simple..."

One of the floating orbs hits Feliss with terrible streght, if she weren't a devil she would have ended like Bitch...

"The same trick won't work twice."

He has healed to 100%.



At this rate this is gonna be an attrition fight. Our healing items vs his power source...and if any of those loses, we lose...


He keeps attacking with his dark, nazi themed magic.

And of course, Rance won't give up.

With the new reinforcements the balance is slightly tilting on our side. But this is still an atrition war, since our best attacks together can't deal even 2000HP of damage...



We will keep this up and hope for an opening.

Turns go by...with no clear victor.

We manage to get him under 5000HP, but he starts to extract more power from Sill.


As I said earlier this fight is our healing items vs his power source...

Upsilon drained energy from Sill and recovered 2,000 HP.

"It's no use. Humans cannot defeat me."

"Shut up, shut up, shut up, shut up!!"

"I can't lose!! Die!!"

"Rance-sama can't win while I'm being used as Upsilon's energy..."

"At this rate, Rance-sama will be killed..."

Sill appears to be trying to do something within the sphere.

"Hey, Sill! What are you doing!!?"

Blinding light shines from the sphere...

Sill's magic exploded inside the sphere, and Sill collapsed with the explosion.

"Sill!!"

"Guh... Impossible.. What did you.. No!"

"Guh.. my power.. you..!"

"Sill.... Shit, Upsilon, I'm gonna kill you!"

HE IS DEAD.

In low battery mode he won't last long...but that won't be enough.


We fill our own energy...

And launch a deadly onslaught.
