More update!
The RNG is not being terribly kind with either the encounter rate or the makeup as we try to leave.
Though it is at least being kind about the battles themselves. No MP drain so far.
And although these guys hit really hard, at least they aren't scoring crits.
Gila only attacks very rarely. I suppose it makes sense, since he's slow as fuck.
Of course, when he dos attack he one shots everything. Holy shit dude.
Aw crap.
Guess I should have used her spells already.
Hah! Suck on that!
Yeah we really did not need that.
Sweet! That sounds like just what we need, lets cast that shit and-
...Yeah.
Luckily, we only get poisoned once, and don't suffer any major damage.
We make it out just fine.
Gila hasn't said anything yet.
CODEX levelled up just before we got out, so this is pretty close to what he needs for a full level right now.
Oh man thats a lot of gold. Very nice.
'Sup BRO.
Would rather have your armor honestly. We're still wearing like, cloth shit.
And this matters because?
That sounds logical.
In the wrong cave? Also, dick move dude.
Leave the awesome loot to us!
Next time maybe we'll have better spells to cast on you.
Drug chick stops us from leaving after we buy an angel feather (9 MP is a lot after all, and Pyra could get drained.)
Why are you sure I'd want a chunk of ore? That makes no sense.
THIS is what we want. Finally some real armor.
Codexers slingshots himself past Milo's defense with the new upgrade. We can't afford much else though. Maybe a shield or slightly better helm, but I'd rather save for another big ticket item, if we're making this kind of cash.
Milo picks up a spell. Fairly obvious what this will do.
We try it out on CODEX first, since he has the highest armor.
That's, kind of dissapointing. Maybe it doesn't work like we thought?
Heh, we're ready for you this time you little bastard.
You're so fucked.
Quick works much much better on Pyra. Must be based on natural defense, before equipment.
I have Pyra defend, since this thing is nearly spell immune.
Milo gets a nice boost too. Though I think Luck is what determines evasion, not speed. Speed is just for turn order it seems.
Milo can at least dent the fucker in melee. Nice.
Our dents are bigger of course.
Heh, barely broke a sweat.
Cha-ching!
Codexer lands some scary crits these days.
And the new armour turns even a crit from this fucker into a joke.
Never mind normal swings.
Already have a pile of gold saved up again. I opt for checking out other paths we went by before going past where we found Gila.
The groups seem to be getting larger still.
But the rewards are nice.
REALLY nice.
Huh, a new enemy type.
Not much of a threat though.
And they go down to CODEX easily enough.
Oh, thats what makes them dangerous.
Ouch.
Ugh. This is where the actual play of combat begins to take form. It's still pretty easy, but now we actually have to think about whether we're going to lose more by getting hit from the worms or slimes, and whether it's better to use spells to kill them quick or save for healing.
Milo can't one shot the slimes.
At least their melee is weak when they don't bother to cast.
Gold just keeps climbing, along with our xp.
This'll sell for a nice chunk too.
Cool.
Oh sweet.
No boss fight? Seems odd for a trial of Strength.
We step back though, because there's still a spot to check past where Gila was, though it requires some MASSIVE backtracking.
This is what the wall looks like before we approach it by the way. So the one in the labyrinth is probably the same thing, it just didn't activate.
Cool. /puntastic
Yeah thats really helpful.
2 new spells for Milo.
Lets try this shit out! It's a lot mroe expensive than blast.
Pyra tries hers too, on the other set.
Not bad, but not enough for a kill either.
Muahaha.
Burn in nuclear fire!
Wow that's pretty illegible. The screen flashes so it was just bad luck witht the screenshot I guess. At any rate, both spells together could probably wipe a group, but separately they're kind of a waste.
All this back tracking is making us filthy rich. Also, Milo got paralyzed. I'm pretty sure thats what DETOX level 2 is for. Luckily we have smellign salts to cure it, because this shit does not wear off from what I remember.
Backtracking is taking so long we're actually running low on MP. Shit like this isn't helping.
At all.
Ugh, shortly beyond Gila is this. A chest we can't get to anyways.
I actually start using the frameskip option here. Previously I didn't feel it was necessary, since I was doing the mapping too, but just straight backtracking slog over that long a distance x2 was awfully dull.
We manage to make it back here ok, though our MP ius pretty much gone.
We come seeking the light.
Glorious 16-bit bloom.
Seems familiar.
Kind of them. Except the part that meant I had to avoid doing it and was forced to backtrack. Though I guess that is still better than forgetting and having to dive the entire cave again. And the map made it as efficient as possible.
I missed getting a shot of the awesome wall breaking animation that lasted maybe 3 frames.
Must lead to the next trial.
Looks fairly normal. But we'll go spend our filthy lucre for now, and check it out in the next update.
(Almost) finished Cave of Strength map:
Thank god we have this map, since we'll probably want/need to come back for the couple spots we couldn't get to, and exploring it from scratch would be a nightmare.
