Man, I can't even remember the whole tax collector saga.

I probably spent about 1k hours playing Morrowind, never really looked for or stumbled on to his body.

"Hmm tax collector missing, I'll keep an eye out..." ----> Heads to Balmora leaving Seyda Neen in opposite direction -----> Forgets.

Should have bothered to look it up at some point.

Meh. If you want to go this route, you'll be better off using more energetic summons using the kind of spells your character has high natural or gear based resistance to.
No need, the ancestral ghost is very effective. It costs very little to cast and absorbing its fire attack recovers a very large amount of magicka.

High Elf should do Imperial Cult quests for Iulus Truptor. Very OP rewards for almost zero effort - and some quests become more than they seem at first.

Insert clever insult here
Very interesting start, but I bet you can't keep it up with this level of LARPin. Will follow, in any case.
I wouldn't really call in-character write up of dialogue, actions and musings "LARPing" - that's reserved for when you start pretending to do laundry by repeatedly dropping and picking up clothes in a river.
Apologies, you are correct. I merely meant that it's an additional layer of work, on top of playing the game, taking and organizing the screenshots and posting them in here.

So it's Tuesday, you had plenty of time to recover from the booze...right?
In before hospital-treated drunken stupor.

Can't say I'll miss this place.

All right, I probably should read the letter given to me by captain Gravius; have to make sure I'm not missing anything important.*opens the letter*
"...You have been given these directions and a package of document. Do not show them to anyone. Do not attempt to read the documents in the package. The package has been sealed, and your tampering will be discovered and punished...
Remember. You owe your life and freedom to the Emperor. Serve him well, and you will be rewarded. Betray him, and you will suffer the fate of all traitors..."
Fantastic.

Just as I thought. Marshmerrows. Very potent ingredient for making healing potions.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Good old ectoplasm. I used to use it in my experiments all the time, back when I still had my study. The idea was that, when introduced in the bloodstream, the subject would gain some of the properties of the undead, or be able to communicate with the immortal plane. Unfortunately, all of them started hallucinating and went completely mad soon after.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

So they burn the dead. I expected as much. Dunmer have this weird obsession with fire and ash.

Ten Gold?? Either the family spent all their wealth on the tomb, or gold was much more valuable back in the day. Empire's increasingly tighter grip on slave labor is to blame, I'd wager.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Hmm. A well preserved copy of some religious scripture. *inspects the book*
"...Beware the wrong walking path. Beware the crime of benevolence...The temporal myth is man. Reach heaven by violence..."
Most of it is gibberish, but some of the unarmored combat techniques described here could prove useful in practice.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

I remember similar enchantments being used on items designed for gladiator schools back on Summerset Isles. These kind of weapons are typically rather harmless, but in the right hands they can leave the victim weak and unable to fight back. I prefer more terminal solutions myself.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

*inspects the helm* Looks like it was made from bone-mold. My guess is that the intricate carvings and symbols covering it are more than just for decoration. I probably shouldn't wear this around; might attract some unnecessary attention from the local Dunmer populace.

*inspects the weapon* A very sturdy looking axe with intricate symbols covering it's shaft and head. Maybe a trophy of war, taken directly out of the cold dead hands of a nord. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it's blade. Unfortunately it's too heavy for me to take to the shop.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

So, I suppose you're looking for someone to get back your jewels?
damsel_zpse9ed88f5.png

What's that? Oh, never mind the jewels! I just want to find the bandit again. His name? Nelos..Nelos Onmar... a name that will stay on my lips for century. Perhaps you can find him for me? Please I cannot live without knowing if he could ever love me. I have nothing to offer you in return, but could you not help me for the sake of love?
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

I'm already acting as an errand boy for the Emperor. Are you the Emperor? No? Then I'm not interested.
damsel_zpse9ed88f5.png

Have you no heart? No soul? Can you not see that this must be true love? No matter. Though it may take years, I'm certain we will be reunited one day.

I, too, hope you and your brain reunite one day, foolish girl. Goodbye.

Hmm, this one looks like an interesting read.*picks up the book, opens it, and runs through pages with a finger*
"...The Great Ghost Fence created by the Tribunal to hold back the Blight incorporates the bones of many heroes of the Temple and of House Indoril and Redoran... also contains bones taken from the Catacombs of Necrom and the many battlefields of Morrowind..."
I know Morrowind has a short supply of lumber, but this is ludicrous. Seems like this "Blight" is pretty serious business.

This sounds like an interesting read. "The pilgrim must visit each of the Shrines of the Seven Graces. At each site the pilgrim must stand before...triolith and read the inscription. ...the Temple has made this list of shrines along with directions... The blessings... last at least a half day" I don't see myself going on a pilgrimage anytime soon, but I'll still mark these locations- just in case I catch some vile incurable disease and need to repent my sins.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Not that I have any choice in the matter. Yes. I'm ready to follow your orders.
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

Good. Welcome to the service, Novice Nirmelir. Now you belong to the Blades. We're the Emperor's eyes and ears in the provinces. You can use my bed if you need to rest...
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

THAT won't be neccessary.
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

...but leave my personal stuff alone unless I say otherwise. If you like, you can improve your modest skills with our Blades Trainers now. Or if you're in a hurry, I can give you orders right away. But don't forget to visit the Blades Trainers.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Hold your horses. First you could tell me where I'm getting myself into. What Blades?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

We're spies. We're Emperor's hidden eyes and ears in the provinces. We watch the Emperor's enemies. We look for opportunities. We make reports. And, when Emperor commands, we obey. But we're only one of many guilds and factions in Morrowind. You should know a little about Morrowind politics before you get involved with any of these other groups
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

So let me get this straight; I'm now a part of Emperor's secret service? Why me? Was I observed during my time in prison? Or even before that? Is there a candidate list you go through? Why is the ruler of all of Tamriel putting his trust into me? We've never even met.
You...you have no clue either, do you? You are just as surprised to see me here, but must follow orders, no questions asked. Heh, no wonder you insist on me getting training first; You obviously think that I'm too green for the job.
Somehow, this puts my mind at ease. I know I can trust you. We're both in the same boat, stuck on this cursed island.
I think I'm ready, Caius. What do you want me to do?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

First thing, pilgrim. You're new. And you look it. Here's 200 drakes. Go get yourself a decent weapon. Or armor. Or a spell. And second thing... you need a cover identity. Around here, 'freelance adventurer' is a common profession. Sign on with the Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, or Imperial cult, or Imperial legion, advance in the ranks, gain skill and experience. Or go out on your own, look for freelance work, our trouble. Then, when you're ready, come back, and I'll have orders for you.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Is a pest control a popular profession around these parts? 200 gold will barely buy me a ride back to Seyda Neen, but you're probably paying them from your own pocket, so..thanks. And, yes, I'm ready for orders.
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

Ready for orders? Good. Go talk to Hasphat Antabolis at the Balmora Fighters Guild. Ask him what he knows about the Nerevarine secret cult and the Sixth House secret cult. You'll have to do him a favor first. Probably an ugly favor. But do it. Then get the information from Antabolis and report back to me.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Nerevarine? I recall a Legion guard mentioning something about it. What of it?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

Some Dunmer believe that an orphan and outcast, a youth born on a certain day to uncertain parents, will one day unite all the tribes of the Dunmer, drive out the invaders of Morrowind, and reestablish the ancient laws and customs of the Dark Elven nations. They call this orphan and outcast the Nerevarine, and say the Nerevarine will be a reincarnation of the long-dead Dunmer General and First Councilor, Lord Indoril Nerevar.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

I see. I guess Blades are particularly interested in the part where this "Nerevarine" drives out all the invaders, meaning Empire, right? Figures. And what about the Sixth House?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

A trusted informant says they're a secret cult associated with some strange events, and, more important, my informant thinks these recent disturbances are related in some way to the Nerevarine Prophecies.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Who exactly is behind these prophecies?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

The illiterate Ashlanders pass down their customs and history in the form of poetic verses. Among the things they preserve in verse are the dreams and prophetic visions of their wise women, in particular the verses that foretell the coming of the Nerevarine. But I don't know much about it. That's why I' m sending you to find out.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

I see.
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

By the way... Hasphat is a student of Morrowind history. Take the chance to get a little education. And I have a few history books in here. Help yourself. You're welcome to them. No point in being part of history if you're too ignorant to understand it.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Yes...it seems I'm here to stay. Which books would you recommend?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

Jeanette Sitte's book is a good place to start. I have a copy here. Take it.You might also look for 'On Morrowind, the Imperial Province', by Erramanwe of Sunhold.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Thanks. I'll have a look at it, but first I would like to know who runs things here? What factions and organizations I should be aware of?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

Groups favoring imperial interests are the Blades, the Imperial cult, the imperial Legion, the Fighters Guild, the Mages Guild, and the Thieves Guild. Groups favoring native Dunmer interests are House Redoran, House Hlaalu, and House Telvanni, the Temple, the Morag Tong, the Camonna Tons, and the Ashlanders.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

*surprised* Mages guild? THE mages guild? *snickers* I'd like to hear more.
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

It's a guild for the arcane arts. And it's where you go to find wizards for hire. Training, goods, and services are cheaper for members, and the Guild Stewards know where to find work. If you want to be a wizard, join and work your way up the ranks. The Mages Guild here is a better bet than the Fighters Guild. Ranis Athrys is the guild steward, so talk to her if you want to join up. She's got a chip on her shoulder, but her apprentice, Ajira, seems okay for a Khajiit.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

*scoffs* Wizards for hire...this is rich. We in Summerset Isles consider it an insult when members of Mages guild are called wizards. Nothing but a bunch of opportunistic spark throwers. They don't know a thing about being a true wizard. Sorry for derailing the topic. Go on. What can you tell me about these great Dunmer houses I keep hearing about?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

House Redoran, House Hlaalu and House Telvanni are the three Dunmer Great Houses on Vvardenfell.

House Redoran is a very serious and honorable bunch.

House Hlaalu are loyal supporters of the Empire, open-minded in religious and cultural matters, and greedy and ambitious in the best Imperial tradition.

House Telvanni's nobles are thousand-year-old wizards. Telvanni are supposed to hate politics, foreigners, and just about everything else, but the Vvardenfell Telvanni are apparently more ambitious and adventurous than most. I don't know much about them, but they do hire Western mercenaries, and some even rise to higher ranks.

It's difficult to rise in their ranks as an outlander, but the Great Houses hold the power in Morrowind. Talk to the councilors of the respective house if you want to become their retainer.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Interesting. Very interesting. House Telvanni you say, eh? So they have influence on Vvardenfell as well. Somehow this island doesn't seem so horrible all of a sudden...
What about this Temple. Aren't they a great house?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

The Tribunal Temple is the native religion. They worship three God-Kings, Almalexia, Sotha Sil, Vivec, who are known together as the Tribunal. We usually just call it 'The Temple'. They're narrow-minded and suppersticious,...
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

*sarcastic* I'm shocked
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

...but I find a lot to admire- particularly their concern for the poor. They accept outlanders as members, but few outlanders join except for the services. Talk to Feldrelo Sadri at the Balmora Temple if you're thinking about joining.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

I see. Any other local factions I should be aware of?
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

The Morag Tong is a guild of executioners and assassins, completely legal, and guided by a strict code of conduct. It's an ancient Dunmer society, steeped in tradition, but I know and respect a few Westerners who belong to the Morag Tong. They are nothing like the Dark Brotherhood. I have no idea how to join them.

The Camonna Tong is Morrowind's native criminal syndicate. They're tough and ruthless, and have connections in the higher ranks of House Hlaalu, The Cammonna Tong compete directly with the Thieves Guild for control of illegal trade, and Camonna Tong will not tolerate competition. Compared wtih the Commona Tong, the Thieves Guild is relatively decent and honorable- certainly less brutal. They don't accept outlanders as members. Forget about it.

I don't know much about the Ashlanders. Most people say they are murderous savages. But most people are idiots...
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

*to self* I'm starting to like this guy.
caius_zps7bdf7d9a.png

I know they hate their settled Dunmer cousins almost as much as they hate Westerners. They must be tough to live in the Ashlands. I don't think outlanders can become members of the tribes. I don't know why anyone would want to.
nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

I see. Well, that is everything I wanted to know, for now. Thank you, Caius. You've given me a sense of purpose. I will attend to my orders as soon as I sift through the books you recommended.

*to self* This is perfect. Telvanni is my ticket to achieving my goals. They are one of the most respected wizard circles in all of Tamriel an I, Nirmelir, have a unique opportunity to become one of them. If what Caius says is true and they accept outlanders in their ranks...I could get back to my studies sooner than I hoped.

But enough of this. I have work to do. Now, let's learn about the history of this accursed place.
Morrowind2013-04-2107-11-36-69_zps8d8e2bdf.jpg

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

Let's see what do we have here *starts reading the book*
"Led by...Veloth, the exiles from Altmer cultures... came to the region of Morrowind. In earliest times the Dunmer were harassed...by Nord sea raiders. When the scattered Dunmer tribes consolidated into the predecessors of the modern Great House clans, they threw out the Nord oppressors...

...Dunmer grew into a great nation called Resdayn. Resdayn was the last of the provinces to submit to Tiber Septim;... it was never successfully invaded, and was peacefully incorporated by treaty into the Empire as... Morrowind.

...Morrowind is still occupied by Imperial legions, with a figurehead Imperial King, though the Empire has reserved most functions of the traditional local government to the Ruling Councils of the Five Great Houses...

...Vvardenfell had been maintained as a preserve administrated by the Temple... and except for a few Great House settlements... was previously uninhabited and undeveloped. But when... ban on trade and settlement of Vvardenfell was revoked by King of Morrowind, a flood of Imperial colonists and Great House Dunmer came to Vvardenfell, expanding old settlements and building new ones.

...district was divides into Redoran, Hlaalu, Telvanni, and Temple Districts, each separately administered by local House Councils or Temple Priesthoods, and all under the advice and consent of Due Dren and the District Council in Ebonheart. Local law became a mixture of House Law and Imperial Law in House Districts,...with Temple law and Imperial law...in the Temple district... The Temple was still recognized as the majority religion, but worship of the Nine Divines was protected by legions and encouraged by Imperial cult...

The Temple District included... Vivec, the fortress of Ghostgate...in practice, this district included all parts of Vvardenfell not claimed for Redoran, Hlaalu, or Telvanni Districts...

House Hlaalu in combination with Imperial colonists... Balmora and the Ascadian Isles regions... Caldera and Pelagiad... and all legion forts...

House Telvanni... Disregarding the protests of the other Houses... have been encroaching on the wild lands reserved to the Temple. The Telvanni council officially disavows responsibility for these rogue Telvanni settlements, but it is an open secret that they are encouraged and supported by ambitious Telvanni mage-lords.

...conservative House Redoran has... resisted expansion in their district. As a result, House Redoran and the Temple are in danger of being... marginalized by the more aggressive... Hlaalu and Telvanni...

The Imperial administration faces many challenges in the Vvardenfell district... Struggles between Great House, Temple, and Imperial interests to control Vvardenfell's resources... Ashlanders raid settlements, plunder caravans, and kill foreigners on their wild lands. The Temple has unsuccessfully attempted to silence criticism...

But most serious are the plagues and disease... blight storms sweeping out from Red Mountain. Vvardenfell and all Morrowind have long been menaced by the legendary evils of Dagoth Ur... For centuries the Temple has contained this threat within the Ghostfence. But recently... the threat from Red Mountain has grown in scale and intensity. If the Ghostfence should fail...the Empire might have... to evacuate Vvardenfell district..."

This answers so many questions. I can definitely understand why Dunmer are the way they are. This place can turn to ash any moment.

nirmelir_zpsb302f8b5.gif

*picks up the book and opens it*
"The War of the First Council was a First Age religious conflict between the secular Dunmer Houses Dwemer and Dagoth and the orthodox Dunmer Houses Indoril, Redoran, Dres, Hlaalu, and Telvanni... over disputes about sorceries and enchantments practiced by Dwemer and declared profane by the other Houses. The Secular Houses, less numerous, but politically and magically more advanced, and aided by Nord and Orc clans... initially campaigned with great success in the north of Morrowind, and occupied much of the land now compromising Redoran, Vvardenfell, and Telvanni District. The Orthodox Houses... suffered defeat after defeat until Nerevar was made general of all House troops and levies. Nerevar secured the aid of nomad barbarian tribesmen, and contrived to force a major battle at the Secular stronghold of Red Mountain... The Secular forces were outmaneuvered and defeated with the help of Ashlander scouts... and the survivors forced to take refuge in the Dwemer stronghold at Red Mountain.

After a brief siege...Secular leaders were slain, and Nerevar mortally wounded. General slaughter followed, and Houses Dwemer and Dagoth were exterminated. Nerevar dies shortly thereafter...Three of Nerevar's associates... Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil, succeeded to control of the re-created First Council, re-named the Grand Council of Morrowind and Went on to become the god-kings and immortal rulers of Morrowind known as the Tribunal, or Almsivi."

That explains the origins of Nerevar and TheTribunal. What I don't understand is how did those House leaders achieved godhood. What power did they witness that day? Did Dwemer unlock the secrets of immortality with their vastly superior arcane knowledge? If so...why didn't they make themselves immortal? Or is this all myth and legends? Still I wonder...what secrets lie buried deep in that stronghold...

Sorry for delay. It's really fucking hard to write one-liner monologues without repeating yourself too much. I should introduce a secondary character.

Also, the xenoforo editor is an abomination on this earth. Will look into an external program.

I'd say you make Silver-Tooth hire Nirmelir to be his bodyguard in one of his trade-routes.

Hell if you play your cards right you can have the other characters play a recurring role.

How did you manage to get silver bowl dialogue before getting the bowl? Is everything in this update in the right order?

Also, busy dialogue is added by economy adjuster and is involved in the script setting up each service provider. You need to disengage from dialogue and talk to them again in order for everything to work right.
