If possible, I think it would be cool to play this campaign via the forum (although I am open to doing a live session if that is what people want). All you should need is a copy of the AD&D Player's Handbook. So does anyone want to play?

Well, I am a little busy already, playing on two games, but if this is going to be played on the forum itself, I think it would be ok. What post rating are you thinking of, Elzair? Once per day?

Anyway, I am going with the obvious choice and take character number 1.

Hell yes. Forum play is perfect. (probably wouldn't be able to fit in more live sessions anyway)
#2 the Human Cleric sounds good. I'll go with him.

I hope we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot by picking the best characters first. Tomb of Horrors is known for its high mortality rate, and finishing the module with the fighter/thief halfling or the gnome fighter/illusionist might not be the easiest thing to do.

Going by the few stories i've heard (though I haven't had much of anything spoiled for me) I suspect it's far more important to play intelligently than it is to have a mechanically strong character.

I'll play if we're going to do this shit over the forums. I don't wanna fuck with IRC or Maptools or any of that stuff, I'm too stupid to remember when to log in.

I'll take 6. Dwarf Fighter (9) if that's alright.

Me too, but I bet access to 7th level spells aren't going to hurt.

Hey, Elzair, since you seem to like 1st edition AD&D, have you heard of the Red Tide Campaign Setting? It is specifically made with 1st edition in mind and is a pretty good sandbox setting, if that is your thing.

In a fine suit
I would be in for it. But it has been ages since I played AD&D, so I would have to do some research. Going for the halfling thief first.

I'll take the mage number 1. I strongly suggest that we give it a try on some online session, unless you have devised some clever way to run it through forum.

Uh, I was thinking at least once a day. Once it gets started, I would say just check back whenever you can. Since I do not think there is much combat, turn sequences should not matter as much.

I think I will leave the slots open until tomorrow to give any stragglers time to join in.

In the meantime, find a copy of the AD&D 1E Player's Handbook and purchase any needed loot and roll an appropriate number of dice for your hitpoints.

Such a hassle

http://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/

This is OSRIC, it's a retroclone (ie. the rules have been restated using OGL terms so as not to infringe on WOTC's copyright) of AD&D1e. Some things have changed (notably: XP totals for advancement, combat initiative) but it should be fine for our purposes

Also easier to get a hold of than the PHB. And free

EDIT: 76 HP (rolled 40, +36 (4x9) for CON bonus)

We'll die anyway :smug:

Btw, can we buy magic shit for the additional money? Also, you said 1000 coins + 5000 gp worth of gems. So we can buy stuff for around 6000 gp, right?

I rolled 34, with +11 from constitution and +3 for being three levels about 11 give me a total of 48. Not too shabby for a mage! I will expend the money tomorrow. By the way, maybe we the players should align our efforts to make the best out of the money we got.

My HP: 75 = 48 (9d10) + 9 + 18 (from CON).

True. We could buy stuff like Rope of Climbing (if we can buy magic shit).

If we're only supposed to be using the PHB then we're a little short on equipment to buy, I don't think it even has standard costs for hirelings in the damn thing (just checked: nope)

Let's all just buy 1000gp worth of 10' poles and 5000gp worth of peasants and be done with it

Or we could just buy the whole dungeon :smug:

But yeah, if it turns out that we need to stick with PHB, then some retainers and equipment for them seems like the best investment. Also, another 1000 gp for burning oil.

Yeah, indeed, we want lots of hireling to use as trap bait scouts. Kz3r0, as a fellow mage, when can exchange spells, so let's not take the same ones.

Both take charm person though, we'll probably need it to, er, convince the hirelings to investigate things for us

Let see if I got this right:
Rolls as ranger (2d8) per level (7) + 4 initial hit points + con bonus of 4 per level (7) =
61 + 4 + 28 = 93

Roll(2d8)+0:
4,4,+0
Total:8

Roll(2d8)+0:
3,2,+0
Total:5

Roll(2d8)+0:
4,2,+0
Total:6

Roll(2d8)+0:
5,8,+0
Total:13

Roll(2d8)+0:
6,6,+0
Total:12

Roll(2d8)+0:
7,1,+0
Total:8

Roll(2d8)+0:
1,8,+0
Total:9

__________________________________________________
Rolls as Mage (6) (1d4) per level (6) + con bonus of 3 per level (6) =

38 + 18 = 56

Roll(1d8)+0:
8,+0
Total:8

Roll(1d8)+0:
8,+0
Total:8

Roll(1d8)+0:
5,+0
Total:5

Roll(1d8)+0:
7,+0
Total:7

Roll(1d8)+0:
7,+0
Total:7

Roll(1d4)+0:
3,+0
Total:3
____________________________________________________
Rolls as Cleric (1d4) per level (5) + con bonus of 3 per level (5) =

13 + 15 = 28

Roll(1d4)+0:
4,+0
Total:4

Roll(1d4)+0:
2,+0
Total:2

Roll(1d4)+0:
2,+0
Total:2

Roll(1d4)+0:
1,+0
Total:1

Roll(1d4)+0:
4,+0
Total:4
_____________________________________________________
So we have:
93 + 56 + 28 = 177 that must be divided for the number of classes (3)= 59 hit points.

Am I missing something?

Rangers get the 2d8 only at first level (so you'll roll 8d8 for your seven Ranger levels), Clerics have 1d8 as hit dice, not 1d4, and non-Fighter type characters (including Rangers and Paladins) have a max of +2 per level CON bonus (and you only have 16 CON anyway = +2 HP bonus a level). So you'll need to roll:
8d8+14 for Ranger levels (7x3 for CON)
6d4+12 for MU levels (6x2 for CON)
5d8+10 for Cleric levels (etc.)
Before averaging it all out.

I think that you mean 7x2, right?

Thank you.:bro:

All right:

Ranger 38 +14 = 52
Cleric 15 + 10 = 25
Mage 11 + 12 = 23
For a grand total of 100, divided by 3 is 33.
