Wargot attack
Ah, I woke too early from my evening-/night shift and couldn't fall asleep again, so I thought I might as well produce the update from work. I just hope my smartphone has enough data traffic left for this month, or we'll be stuck with half an update.
First off, our researchers on the Laputa finishes research into the "Reticulan Aftermath". This details some of what happened after the last game ended, supposing we took the ridiculans up on their offer:
Serves them right, the little bastards. Being almost wiped out by their own "god".
I guess this also explains why most reticulans in Aftershock seem like such pushovers..
Shortly after this piece of fluff, our researchers tries to analyze our main opponents, the cultists.
They've also seen the walnut in the sky approaching Earth? Whatever could this mean I wonder..
We won't have to wait long though, as the counter reveals.
But before we let the counter reach zero, and Stuff Happens, we'll take a look at the roster. In random order, here are our soldiers!
JoKa is our most experienced soldier, he has trained in all his desired fields, but he has yet to master them. His excellent speed makes him very useful in assaults though, as I can have him running around scouting out the map, and if he gets into trouble, most of the time he can just turn around and run away before it gets too tough.
Being constantly in the frontline, he has racked up the second highest number of kills, 74.
Ah, Gondolin. One of the two people on the team who can wear heavy armour. He's wielding his machine gun with deadly accuracy and has killed the mystical number of 42 aliens!
His next training we're aiming for is the final level of technician training, as it will make him even more deadly with heavy weaponry.
Phoenix hasn't seen that many missions yet, as she was only a short while ago issued a psi-suit, slightly increasing her resistance to damage. Psionics are squishy, and her build is better suited for shorter range engagements than that of Bee, but now that she has the second level of ranger training, she can dual-wield one handed weapons. This could be interesting as soon as we stick some vambraces on her, as she'll then be able to dual-wield poison, paralysis or confusion projectors.
chzr is a decent sniper. She hasn't reached the highest tier of training yet, and so cannot aim at specific body parts. But will be able to soon.
I've given her the first tier of trooper, even though she hasn't specialized fully in sniper training, seeing as we have several snipers, but fewer troops able to use rocket launchers. chzr has an awful strength attribute though, so she'll need to up that a bit, if she's to wear better armour, and the Barrett is currently out of her reach as well. Fortunately, she's quite deadly with the SR-25.
...
And here's where my data traffic limit cut in. So now I'm back at home, and ready to upload the last pictures. We continue with korenzel.
korenzel is one deadly medic! She just finished third tier medic training, meaning that from now on, all healing done in base is much faster.
She has also managed to kill 75 enemies, more than any other in the team! Very impressive, considering she still only has sniper training on tier 1.
Bee has finalized her psionic training and sniper training both, she only needs to focus on scout training from now on. She has a very impressive long range skill, and for some reason, she has totally avoided injury so far.
Being a psionic is working out pretty well for her so far.
Anus is another of our top-trained snipers, and she's killed 59 enemies in 44 missions. Needless to say, having her along is a great help.
She's also close to getting third tier scout training, which will help greatly when prioritizing targets.
K. Slips.. Well, 7 missions attended, 1 enemy killed. Not exactly impressive. And sad to say, he's not getting much love. The other, more experienced soldiers, usually gets picked before this guy. Maybe he will see more action soon, the top-tier training programs can keep people out of action for up to three game days.
Sergiu64. Even less impressive, 7 missions, 0 kills. Almost a mirror image of K. Slips.
Commissar on the other hand has his excellent speed marking him as special. He also has a very good close range skill, meaning that he's quite useful for scouting the maps, and often quite deadly with his shotgun. He might run afoul of the same poor luck as his predecessor eklektyk, and more than once has he been down and bleeding, but he's managed to scrape through due to allies being close enough to rescue him.
EdwardRM, dual-wielding reticulan blasters. These puppies only do stun damage, and this is perfect in capture missions! His speed lets him close with the enemy quickly, and when he fires, it usually doesn't take long until the target is sound asleep.
That isn't as useful when it isn't a capture mission though, which explains why he's only seen 13 missions, but he's useful in his own right.
Claus, our technician/medic cyborg. He can now use heavy weapons, and it's a mistake he's been depicted here with an assault rifle. He will be issued a machinegun post-haste.
Ah, Storyfag. He usually runs tandem with JoKa, either they're both armed with assault rifles as depicted, or if they're hunting grays, they wield their katanas. It's greatly satisfying seeing them carve a bloody path. Things will improve further when he completes his third tier of stalker training, which greatly improves the chances of critical hits with the katana.
dextermorg is finalizing his technician training. He's already deadly with his machinegun, having killed 47 enemies in 41 engagements, but this will improve even beyond this due to the bonus he'll get from third tier tech training.
He's also often in the thick of it, illustrated by his "damage taken" score. That is permanent damage taken, the kind that can only be healed back at base. He deals and he takes, like a proper soldier.
Cassidy, our cyborg sniper. He's currently focusing on getting the top tier sniper training, so he can start making headshots. He's usually outdone by the other snipers on the team, but I'm of the opinion that you can hardly have too many snipers.
Ah, Desmodus. Dual pistol wielding lunatic. He charges in, time and again, and gets punished for it. He's taken the most damage of any in the team, yet he's always ready for another round. He'll be the first of the cyborgs to get the improved cyborg body armour when it becomes available.
Before we started on the roster overview, the countdown clock had almost reached zero. What happens when it does then?
This:
We've been attacked by a giant space walnut!!
Oh well. Even though the barely legible text says "all hands to battle stations", you can only choose 7 team members to repel the attack. And they start spread out over the station, as you can see from these pictures.
Bee's in the worst spot of the 7 troopers, so she hastily beats a retreat.
Anus takes on three (the third not visible in this screen yet) enemies on her own.
And Bee gets her revenge on one of the three that spawned almost on top of her. Note the 1990 damage she does.
A critical hit always knocks and enemy down, taking the heat off your fighters. Of course, this also holds true if your troops are hit critically, so beware. The fight is rather quickly concluded though, and our snazzily dressed PR guy is ecstatic.
The researchers are all over the captured craft, and after a closer analysis, we try to send a manned probe (what where they thinking?!?) to the space walnut.
Hmm.. Guess we'll have to wait and see what our R&D boys come up with. In the meanwhile, we'll occupy ourselves with the slaughter of mutants and cultists.
Who knows, maybe we'll learn more about these "Wargots"?
