Also, having gotten ahead some more, I'd say there's one other thing that's wrong with APD:

They give wayyyyy too much leeway to Russia in regards to Great Wars. They were fucked without even losing WW1, currently actually losing lets them off EASIER than that. Similarly, Russia is far too stable, I haven't seen a single rebellion there during my entire campaign.
Will you create a "Exterminate Russia" mod?

Nah, the bigger issue is that zerg-armies are too ahistorically powerful following the changes to army tech, but this was already an issue in vanilla and will probably remain so until forever.

The only modding I did was fix around pops in Karelia to be more historically accurate for grand campaign, and redo the Finnish generals name list to reflect the 19th century better (majority of the names in vanilla file are WW2 based). The triggered modifier sequence doesn't seem to work, and its effect isn't that much.

By the way, here the actual reason for the Romanian slaves in Rio Grande do Sul:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_Romania

====================

MuseuJulio13.jpg

Liberdade, Freiheit, Libertà, Liberté, Libertate, Svóboda, Wolność...

w95Xk.jpg

The military of Rio Grande do Sul continues undergoing constant improvements. The latest development among such was the import of the Jominian Attitude rather than the Clausewitz one. Inflicting greater casualties against the enemy was fundamental for the Republic to achieve victory in future conflicts, and has been the primary reason for their past victories, thus it was no surprise they adopted such views.

oMzl2.jpg

More rebels... great.

Pmxrg.jpg

In June 1850 Brazil decided to be even more imperialistic by supporting Argentinian ambitions against the sovereign rights of Chile. This is worrisome and obviously they are hoping to get Argentina to support them in another attempt to subjugate Rio Grande do Sul in the future, specially as both are tyrannical countries: one a monarchy and the other a dictatorship. More reasons to never neglect army research.

aAIzH.jpg

The pressure for extending the voting franchise grows even stronger, and as fitting for a beacon of Democracy, their protests happen peacefully.

uGWav.jpg

By the half of November in the same year, progressive elements of the cabinet, with the approval of the prime minister, took advantage of the extremely influential and growingly radical Chartist movement to convince the conservatives to approve political reforms, except such initially were not targeted at extending the voting franchise, but instead at making Rio Grande do Sul as attractive as possible to immigration. Laws were enacted to ensure immigrants who lived at least four years in Rio Grande do Sul would be granted full citizenship rights, regardless of the policies of the ruling party. These reforms soon proved successful in their purpose, immigration going on in such a rate that it wouldn't take much longer for the Republic to become more populous than Brazil.

qNJyW.jpg

Enraged their actuall goal was not supported, the Chartists continued as radical as before, allowing for even more reforms to be enacted through the 1850s. In 1851 the exclusive ownership of the press by the government was abolished, as a first step towards full freedom of press, which would also help with literacy as a benefit, and give another bonus to immigrant attraction.

VfXyp.jpg

With progress comes reaction, and the government was very clear on it: they completely refused to support the anti-immigration movement, delivering massive butthurt on reactionary elements as the Western Civilization Defense Squad, which echoed even in Uruguay, leading Fretrider to another spree of shitposting.

:M

GrJL3.jpg

Worried about the massive population growth of the Riograndense Republic, Brazil established a key alliance with the second most powerful country of the world: France. This makes everything more complicated for the future of the Republic, as rebels in Santa Catarina may yet be awakened, and at this point it is unlikely Brazil will start a war again. Thus, as a long term measure, a total improvement of diplomatic relations with France is sought.

QRF44.jpg

The reactionaries lost even more credibility with the end results of their forced industralization plan. Of all industries they built, only the canned charque proved itself to be constantly profitable, with shoes profitable as well but plagued by a chronic shortage of bronze, which they had to import, and firearms unprofitable but subsidized because of the strategic advantage of not having to import them. Thus only Charque Gaucho, Sapatos Mann-Vuitton and Taurus Armamentos survived of all previous industries. Nevertheless, where many went down under, these three economically successful or strategically important factories still gave a significant base for the industrialization of Rio Grande do Sul.

pWJUi.jpg

Biard_Abolition_de_l%27esclavage_1849.jpg

In January 1853, one of the most defining and symbollically strong measures towards greater liberty was finally approved by the parliament. From this moment onwards, all men once held as slaves shall be forever free. At this point, slaves were only a minority of the population, a minority deprived of the right to consume industrialized products which made such as economically as ideologically driven. Thus all Brazilian and Amerikwan negros and Romanian gypsies were set free, and with this immigration grew even more. Using the passion of the Chartist movement and the dramatic growth of the liberal ideology, now endorsed by the majority of the population, the progressives were now clearly seeking to turn the Republic into the most progressive nation of the Ameri... of the entire World.

Contrasting to the expectations of certain racist groups, some Brazilian negroes even managed to climb up to the middle class, becoming artisans and bureaucrats, and they didn't go out of their chains as bloodthirsty savage rapists wielding machetes either, for this was not the beginning of a Congoid buttsex apocalypse.

B9kUS.jpg

Shortly after this emancipation, some suggested the selling of canned chicken meat as well to attend to the just established consumer market.

:kfc:

In any case Charque Gaucho is growing successfully. Eventually the Riograndense Republic might become the leading world spammer of canned meat.

Meanwhile, an "underground railroad" was set on the borders with Brazil, through which many slaves tried to escape, rising the tensions between both countries.

cFbJ5.jpg

Reaching near five million inhabitants, the Republic is close to becoming the greatest country of South America, and more immigrants arrive every day.

QiVEd.jpg

Unfortunately, after years of bronze shortages, it was decided to close the shoes factory as well, as it didn't make any profit for almost an entire year, and many laissez-faire supporters wanted for the firearms factory to go down as well. Since when is bronze supposed to be this difficult to get?

UJesR.jpg

Cattle is one of the most important elements in the economy of the country and will be critically important for supporting the canned meat industry. Thus the government subsidizes all farmers affected by the outbreak of Bovine Fever in 1853.

ZekfR.jpg

While the canned meat industry continues to expand very quickly, breech-loaded rifles are finally being introduced to the army, which will definitively be of help in future wars, for these rifles can be reloaded much faster than muzzle loaded ones.

6otB3.jpg

Perhaps due to the major political reforms, the reactionaries saw a resurgence, but they are still too few in a LIBERALS dominated Rio Grande do Sul.

1aLhL.jpg

And despite all the political reforms that happened in the last years, confirming the position of Rio Grande do Sul as a bastion of Freedom, some malcontent Jacobins still rose to their suicidal rebellions.

Irr2S.jpg

The Republic has grown and prospered, becoming the most advanced nation of South Latin America, and through the many cultures and peoples that sought a better life here, it became one of the greatest culutural centers of America. To confirm this, the government approved a major exhibition of the local classicist art, bringing much prestige to their country.

Aye22.jpg

December of 1854 would, by demographics researchers, be considered a historical day. With over 6 millions inhabitants, the Republic has not only grown dramatically, becoming the most densely populated country of the entire continent,

fhB7k.jpg

But also became the greatest country of South America, surpassing the population of their old enemy, the reactionary empire of Brazil. Power was shifting over South America, a rising star of liberty now ready to leave a mark in the history of the continent.

d6nPw.jpg

Despite all the issues with industrialization, the Republic must advance. The creation of a formalized stock exchange will greatly bolster the economical development of the country, and somehow, allow the creation of cigar factories that rely on a raw material the Republic produces locally.

AMUjy.jpg

The artillery of the Republic is also being upgraded, and a major reform of the army is planned to make it mightier without being much bigger in size.

uvm70.jpg

The assembly of artillery pieces and training of artillerymen thus began in the middle of 1855. With these mighty cannons, all those who stand against freedom shall wake up to the shells in the nights.

o2POv.jpg

Can there be a greater indication of how mighty and successful the Republic has become, than to have attracted immigrants from a nation used to draw immigrants themselves? For even some Yankees decided to try seeking greater prosperity in Rio Grande do Sul, although there could be even more, because for some reason, they tend to assimilate pretty quickly, where other peoples take a longer time to assimilate... it makes one wonder why.

:patriot:

And of course, Belgian incest lovers came in too. There is never too much diversity in the multikult gathering Rio Grande do Sul has become.

rtP0z.jpg

Perhaps out of fear for the fact they are no longer bigger than Rio Grande do Sul, the empire of Brazil reacted through a predictable manner, seeking to expand their population through imperialism and tyranny rather than through being a free land to such an extent countless immigrants are drawn to it.

Bhyrz.jpg

Despite the liberal majority in the population, the conservatives manage to still win the elections on issues alone, because most of the population opposes laissez-faire economics. Their new prime minister in 1856 is truly a great man, one of the best in the history of the country.

UBIt0.jpg

After massive improvement of army technologies, the next step is to improve the quality of life, reducing mortality rates and thus making the population grow even more dramatically. To this researches towards the development of modern medicine have begun.

OJqLj.jpg

Reducing the fears of "destruction of the gaucho culture" the anti-immigration crowds have, birth rates have grown again in the country, contributing even more to the already gigantic population growth.

8m68i.jpg

Also, In 26 April of 1856, the stock market of Porto Alegre was founded. Will it bring prosperity or, as the reactionaries claim, become a toyhouse for the JEWS?

1sOdS.jpg

Charque Gaucho is spamming a lot of canned charque and still expanding. Of all industries established it has consolidated into a successful enterprise, while, to make things even better for the industrial revolution of Rio Grande do Sul, at last those bronze shortages are over, and Taurus became lucrative too. According to global statistics, the Republic is now the 13th most industrialized nation of the world, while the backwards and decadent Brazil continue being just an exporter of cheap raw materials for the industries of the world, and is like almost thrice more illiterate as well.

It is almost like comparing Texas with Mexico, as the economical and political contrast between both rises every day.

:M

7af8e.jpg

Speaking of Texas, Kwanzania didn't take much to follow through the same reforms that happened in Rio Grande do Sul, but the abolition of slavery sparked a new conflict in their country by the end of 1856. Their south, which relied strongly on slavery in constrast to their industrialized north, seceded from Kwanzania motivated by both the abolition of slavery and by the growing centralization of power which they feared to infringe on the liberties of their states, declaring themselves the Confederated States of America, and thus the Amerikwan Civil War began. Compared to Rio Grande do Sul, the gap in power was much less gigantic, and if they had generals as genial as those who led the Riograndense Republic to victory twice, the Confederacy would certainly win.

h7vSy.jpg

Not even a month after the beginning of the Amerikwan Civil War, another major war would soon storm South America as well. Hoping to count on the honor of the gaucho, Chile sought to retake their territories lost by Argentina thanks to Brazilian intervention in favor of such imperialism. Self-proclaimed the guardians of liberty and of the right of self-determination of the South American peoples, the Riograndense Republic of course answered such call, and would once again be at war, this time against the tyrannical and imperialistic dictatorship of Argentina, to defend the sovereignty of the Chilean peoples oppressed by such foreign rule. And thus Rio Grande do Sul, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile joined together into a major conflict, while the Republic saw here another thing: the opportunity to gain enough prestige to proclaim the Juliana Republic in Santa Catarina by completely crushing Argentina, gaining thus a legitimate reason to engage into a direct conflict with Brazil for the future of the Brazilian people at large rather than for mere secession.

Don't cry for me Argentina

g5kpa.jpg

Argentina already began losing the war, one of their armies about to be surrounded while Buenos Aires itself lied undefended.

xMv5E.jpg

However, seemingly the war affected the economy, somehow. Perhaps Argentina was one of the primary consumers of canned meat, because sales went down severely. Calls from workers and capitalists for the government to subsidize the factory until the crisis was over came, but were not listened to yet. Equally, the firearms factory had to be closed again as bronze shortages happened once more.

JkPGN.jpg

The army of Argentina made a big mistake, and soon they would pay for it. Not that they ever stood any chance. The Riograndense Republic once had a modest army, but now that has changed, and as a display of their might, and also as a means to facilitate the encirclement of that army in Entre Rios, a decision would be made.

K8Xa4.jpg

The army of Rio Grande do Sul, when mobilized, was by and far the mightiest and greatest army of South America. 150,000 soldiers ready for the battle answered the call.

w7gMm.jpg

As the war became worse for Argentina, the Republic, leading the conflict negotiations, had other plans than to merely make Chile regain what is rightfully theirs. They would humiliate and crush Argentine purely for the prestige such actions would provide.

u9tfa.jpg

Rio Grande do Sul is gradually taking the position of leading producer of sauerkraut outside Germany.

zIrJH.jpg

In July 16th of 1857, Buenos Aires fell. Their doom was total. The Riograndense Republic thus considered the possibility to both humiliate Argentina and cut it down to size for maximum prestige of such crushing victory.

f9N7O.jpg

A justification for humiliating Argentina was already underway.

MZnIY.jpg

Meanwhile, as more good news, the dictator who ruled over Chile was assassinated by liberal revolutionaries who stood for DEMOCRACY.

rQZXp.jpg

And while the encircled Argentinian army was being crushed, breech loaded rifles became standard, and were now fielded to mobilized forces as well as regulars.

yrtfh.jpg

Only 0.8? WEAK!

XC5QA.jpg

:salute:

7Dye5.jpg

Now that the patriots who were mobilized performed their duty admirably, it is time for them to go back home because they won't be needed at all to finish this.

dtxfc.jpg

They will pay for what they did against the Chilean people!

BCLPt.jpg

All doubts were wavered, and the Jingoists prevailed as one more justification would be on the way. Argentina has proven to be a potential threat for Rio Grande do Sul, and to ensure they wouldn't even dare to ever again support Brazil, they will pay an even higher price than being humiliated.

Jc1Ui.jpg

The policies of naturalization and full citizenship, combined with the solid democratic ideals of the Riograndense Republic, have served to gather a massive patriotic fervor among even recent immigrants who saw in this country the freedom and prosperity they no longer found in their former homes, or in homes they lost to foreign imperialists, like the Poles and Ukrainian immigrants, whose second and further generation immigrants were famed for their patriotism, while they retained a strong sympathy for their relatives oppressed over their former homes.

: x

diN7U.jpg

Even in a state of war, the cherished liberties of Rio Grande do Sul continued to expand even further. The right to secret ballots is only a matter of time, as all means the ruling party could use to manipulate elections in their favors have been gradually abolished in a matter of months. In fact, at this point, it is almost certain that this is the most democratic country of the entire America, and if not, it soon shall be.

INueb.jpg

Jacobin Revolutionaries in Argentina held little scorn for Rio Grande do Sul, as their policy of not taking advantage of this war to take away from Argentina any land that is rightfully theirs ensued. Instead, as Argentina was being crushed, one of them approached the Riograndense government, proclaiming that they intended to overthrow the dictatorship as soon as the war is over. The government has chosen to offer total support for this democratic movement, and promised to help them in achieving victory against such tyrannical regime responsible for provoking this war in the first place.

Where European nations wage war for imperialism, and so does Kwanzania to a lesser extent, the Republic wages wars FOR DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM.

AhWLl.jpg

How could this happen? Later news came of a legendary bank robbery conducted by a group of Poles against the Prussian Central Bank, and rumors emerged such crime was politically motivated, and the stolen wealthy being used to support Polish nationalists who still bided their time.

foYOR.jpg

As for Argentina, no surprise. Unfortunately the event didn't give to Rio Grande do Sul another casus belli.

1Ykex.jpg

Then, as the year of 1858 was beginning, Rio Grande do Sul climbed futher through their glory and might. Now they were not just another country. Through their military, political, cultural and economical victories, they have, despite being a territorially small if vastly populated country, risen to the status of Secondary Power, and now became the greatest country of Latin America for sure, their population only smaller than the population of the United States of America in the continent, and speaking of it, the Confederated States lost the war.

bUaLr.jpg

New elections began while the war carried on, and the Republic demanded crushing war reparations from Argentina.

z77f8.jpg

The war dominates the DISCUSS!!! of these elections, with the clear victory serving to instill greater support for the Republican Party.

bC3sh.jpg

REMOVE ALFAJOR FROM THE PREMISES

RIO GRANDE DO SUL STRONG!

RIO GRANDE DO SUL GREATTST COUNTREY!!!

H9XCk.jpg

In Rio Grande do Sul the Republican Party is free from Mormons and Zionist agents. No surprise they manage to win elections even with a LIBERAL majority among the population.

:incline:

9g87I.jpg

Meanwhile, with the armies of the country occupied in Argentina, freedom fighters also rose in Paraguay. The Rio Grandense Republic discreetly supports their movement as well, and considering their extent, they will win, furthering the cause of DEMOCRACY in South America.

980Wr.jpg

The revolution in Paraguay was successful, but unfortunately, some reactionary loyalists to the just toppled dictatorship rose in their capital and threatened to turn this into the shortest democracy of history. Rio Grande do Sul thus decided to intervene to protect FREEDOM in Paraguay, as one of their armies marched to Assuncion to crush the reactionaries.

ALKq3.jpg

Hopefully they would arrive before their capital is seized by such tyrants.

BB5xv.jpg

Another victory for DEMOCRACY. Paraguay will hopefully stabilize with its currently much better government, and if more reactionaries rise, their allies will not abandon them and fight again in defense of liberty.

yKZ6O.jpg

Fortunately, after a time where the factory had to be subdisized, the canned charque industry in Rio Grande do Sul not only recovered, but was giving a lot of income and selling their entire stockpiles while still expanding, and Taurus was again reopened. Rio Grande do Sul is probably one of the greatest producers of canned meat in the world.

WBf3A.jpg

Years and more years of successful occupations went through, as a new decade was about to begin.

In face of the rapid economic development of the country, a foreign Great Power(most likely Kwanzania) decided to invest into the construction of a railroad in Porto Alegre, which will boost even further the economy. Rio Grande do Sul has neglected research into railroads so far because of more immediate needs.

g5vLB.jpg

In September of 1859, Argentina was completely occupied by the South American Triple Entente, and Uruguay decided to take advantage of it. Unfortunately for them, they asked for way too much, ignoring logic. Besides, this war was started to allow Chile to regain their rightful clay. To use it to seize the clay of others without justification would go against all the principles of the Republic, thus instead, they sought a new wargoal related to giving back to another country who lost clay to Argentina what was rightfully theirs.

OqVlC.jpg

Thus, instead of allowing Uruguay to take what they don't deserve, Rio Grande do Sul demanded for Argentina to give Paraguay and Chile back their clays, plus humiliation, plus hefty war reparations. A great day for DEMOCRACY in South America.

Ai2kb.jpg

With this total victory, the Republic solidified their status as a Secondary Power, while also achieving such prestige they now were finally ready for a conflict that would define the future of the continent even more than the Chilean war for the liberation of Los Rios.

qwG4z.jpg

Antonio_Parreiras_-_Proclama%C3%A7%C3%A3o_da_Rep%C3%BAblica_Piratini_-_1915.jpg

For too long the Brazilian people have been under a backwards, anti-progress government, for too long they were condemned to be forever stuck into underdevelopment. No more! The proclamation of unconditional support for the secession of the Juliana Republic was only the beginning. While Giuseppe Garibaldi fought for the unification of his own country over Italy, it was time to fight for DEMOCRACY over Brazil now.

GyqB2.jpg

Supported by Rio Grande do Sul, the revolutionaries, as claimed, rose to arms against the tyranny in Argentina as soon as the war was over. Thus, the war Rio Grande do Sul just fought brought DEMOCRACY to both Paraguay and Argentina. Now, it was about time to fight for freedom in the name of the Brazilian people as well, even if there is a formal alliance of Brazil with France, they cannot just let their brothers wail in perpetual Thirdworldism.

vQyQX.jpg

Cigars can finally be mass produced rather than produced through artisans. Hopefully a capitalist will have the intelligent idea of starting a cigar factory because it is an excellent idea considering the raw materials readily available in the country include tobacco, and that cigars are always in a good demand and expensive.

MgQaC.jpg

It is about time to try becoming something greater than a Rio Grande do Sul. It is time to bring FREEDOM from Rio Grande do Sul to Amazonas, to begin the war to end all wars in South America.

Why exactly aren't you taking provinces elsewhere, seeing how there is no practical reason when non-core penalties have been removed in APD (since nothing cores anymore outside of decision effects)? Are you larping it for the sake of the LP?

Here, obviously
It is a good thing that I have almost never seen a great European power actually ship their soldiers off of the coast, or I would be worried about that alliance with France.

Having too many non accepted cultures in a state drastically reduces administrative efficiency even with cores AFAIK. IE: Mexico retaining Texas had to get over 10% bureaucrats in Texas to reach 100% AE.

Besides, Argentina has no province worth shit, can easily be added to the SOI later and I think, from having played with Texas before, that one state sized countries have a bonus in immigrant attraction because as soon as I expand with one of them the immigration rate goes down a bit.

Well, I dug through the Dismantle event files. For one thing, I must say the whole thing is extremely good and really adds a whole new flavor to Great Wars. On a more serious note, did a Great War where it was my Greater Finland leading the alliance of United Kingdom, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire, Norway and Japan against France, Russia, Free States of America (incidentally, the revamped American Civil War possibilities are fantastic althistory goodness), Sweden and a bunch of South Americans. United States stayed out of the fight, while Germany and French Alliance duked it out separately as well (in conjunction with my war to dismantle Russia, France got assraped and was easy pickings) and Italy started a separate war for Corsica.

End result after three years of fighting was nabbing Galich and Nenetsia along with Liberate used to free Moldavia, Cossack Hetmanate and Astrakhan from Russia along with Dismantlement (sadly Ural Free State and Siberia stayed there, well something to do before 1936 if I don't start a different campaign I guess), followed by Dismantling of world's previous longtime #1, France (which lost all its colonies and was split in two). Free States of America got a Fascist revolution and United Kingdom got a Democratic revolution, France would first get Democratic one followed by Fascist revolution immediately afterwards. Occitaine became a German puppet, and Niger became the very first free and civilized African nation. Current world issues are the rising trend of fascism (particularly in Russia, which had a democratic revolution recently), and the inevitable French retaliation against Germany.

Anyway, things I think APD improves the most:

1) Africa is much better handled thanks to Scramble CB and the fact that colonial overlords are the ones who get the decisions to plant cash-crops there, makes the game potentially much better for the locals if one plays as them. Additional locals is also a good thing, as is the decision to make Madagascar annexation a decision available for everyone.

2) China is done a LOT better, I'm having a lot of fun watching the Chinks tear each other apart now that they've entered civil war phase.

3) Resources are handled much better, there are a lot less shortages among fundamental products like Coal and Timber, and the addition of multiple production paths for industrial goods (ie, Canned Food factory for each of the foodstuffs) is a brilliant idea for balancing things out.

4) The AI behaves a lot more logically when it comes to diplomacy.

5) Tech tree is handled a lot better due to making it steady, gradual increases instead of giant leaps, and there is admirable curbing of must-have techs.

6) Yay Grand Duchy of Finland and moar irredentist paths. A very nice list of additions for "shit you can do" and althistory goodness.

7) RGOs aren't small as shit. This is very important for smaller countries, and I highly approve. Especially true for agricultural RGOs.

8) The mod does not disregard fun in some misguided search for making itself hardcore challenging.

9) Nice amount of government flavor, this is mostly important for dictatorships which get the most of this.

Things that need work:

1) War is still poop, just in a different way. The major issue is that zerg-civilized countries like Russia have too much staying power and don't weaken severely after a certain point in the game. Russo-Japanese War isn't going to turn out into a humiliation for Russia.

2) Some countries appear unnaturally stable, most notably Russia. I have never seen a rebellion there, while on the other hand I have seen *all* of the British military units revolt at the same time.

3) A lot of the irredentist conditions are plain stupid in their restrictiveness. There should be a steady list of OR conditions, with the catch-all condition just being a Great Power, with dictatorships and jingoists being needed if you aren't.

4) The player's military score is still bugged to hell. I have a huge standing army and extremely high Officer ratio, but my soldiers and army give... 1.2 points of score. It's extremely annoying due to War Leader shenanigans, forcing you to build a fuckhueg number of capital ships.

Pointless vaarna complaint) The pop cultures in Karelia are fuck up mang and Finland's leader name file sucks.

Overall, A POP Divided is, as far as Paradox mods go:

This is the last update in this page, so you know what must be done.

Also, to put things in perspective, POPDemand fixed the fact European Powers never send any force when intervening in wars over America.

Of course, they are French...

The First Brazilian Revolutionary War

Waterloo Soundtrack Suite

q1vHM.jpg

4lxf6.jpg

By the beginning of the 1860s, the vast advances in medicine in Rio Grande do Sul included a far more expansive access to contraceptives, to the disgust of reactionary troglodytes. Likewise, such growing popularity and accessibility of condoms and other means of ensuring now unwanted pregnancies equally reduced the spread of venereal diseases, while also contributing to the development of more stable, economically prosperous and functional families.

GgysF.jpg

Being now a Secondary Power, Rio Grande do Sul applied to host the prestigious World Fair, but unfortuantely Kwanzanian bias and their relatively recent status as a power conspired against it. Nevertheless, they shall attend to the fair in Washington to exhibit a cultural enlightenment way above hot dogs, Oprah and shitcoms.

:patriot:

Milk will never again be unhealthy. Of course, it is the benefits of such invention to wine that are the most important and relevant.

Looks like the rest of South America seems not sufficiently enlightened to cherish the gift of Democracy. Or perhaps they never asked for this.

What a shame.

The Western Civilization Defense Squad sets up Headquarters in Santa Maria, led by Lyric Suite. A town reputed for its musical merits, it is no surprise indeed why.

The preparations were almost finished. It won't be easy, but this time, they won't be on the losing side, they won't give any chance and the empire must fall. There cannot be two Brazilian nations but only one! And this one must be of course the most culturally, socially, scientifically and politically evolved and free of both. And thus it shall begin. Santa Catarina is nothing but the start of a Revolutionary War. Brazil however counts with local allies and with the damn French.

Despite full citizenship, minority rights and naturalization, some immigrant are still not satisfied. Rather than send the cops to deal with them, a speech is given to reaffirm they didn't made a mistake by coming in here.

Later the biggest perpetrators: a handful of Turks and Bosniaks, are rounded up and returned to Croatioa.

In their arrogance, the Empire of Brazil was confident that the Frenchies would give them total victory against the Republic. They couldn't be more wrong, even as their ships blockade Rio Grande do Sul, it won't be over the seas, but over the land that this war will be decided. A beacon of liberty and unity, where those from many different origins band together for a common cause is naturally stronger than a backwards agrarian hole.

Medicine continues to evolve considerably, to the point many Brazilians go to Rio Grande do Sul in seek of medical care from the vast difference between the two nations. The development of anaesthesia will allow surgeries to be performed far more efficiently, and combined with the antiseptics, allow for medical procedures which once were more like cruel executions to be almost always successful. Of course, access to these right now is not exactly on even ground for both rich and poor, but that may change.

In one of the smaller German states, a new ideology has risen. Socialism is an ideal focused on creating what their followers claim to be a "true democracy" by curbing the power of the economical elites and transferring ownership of the means of production to the workers, while seeking equality and a better life for those on the bottom of the pyramid. Fortunately for Rio Grande do Sul the movement didn't gain any significant support around.

Where Democracy died in Paraguay and was not successfully achieved in Argentina, Uruguay finally achieves freedom, while the tyrants and reactionary brownnosers of the tyrants meet the guillotine. Everyone is happy for the incline this brought, everyone but Fretrider who once again baaaaws about Liberals while nobody gives a fuck to such a sad and deceitful reactionary.

Looks like the tyrant of Paraguay wants something they have no legitimacy over. Intend on no longer being a landlocked country, they boldly declared war on Brazil shortly after the Revolutionary War began, but they now face Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela, Peru and France. In other words, they will never achieve this, fortunately, because Paraná is better off as part of the Republic instead.

Brazil still didn't muster enough men to attempt stopping the occupations, which carry on through the south.

Bolt-action rifles become the next development of the Republic in military technology. Being much, much easier and faster to reload than breech loaded rifles, they will also be designed with the revolutionary concept of a new type of cased ammunition rather than the old balls that comes with its own embedded gunpowder and promises a much greater accuracy. The Riograndense firearms are gaining a reputation for being ahead of their time, while they are usually rapidly adopted by the standing army.

Then, when finally they advanced to crush the Brazilian forces after concluding their occupations, it was a devastating victory. Things continue going pretty well. It won't be long before they stand at Rio de Janeiro at this rate.

Even while at war, Rio Grande do Sul is a host of political debate and growing support for more reforms that will make it as close to an ideal democracy as possible with the limitations of the time, particularly the fact it is impossible to organize the communications of millions ruling directly over one in an effective, practical and non inane way.

An entire Brazilian army wiped out as they stand upon the gates of Rio de Janeiro. It couldn't be going better. This time, it is Brazil that is on the losing side and their generals lack the geniality of the Riograndense ones to overcome it as the Republic did in its two first wars against Brazil. If they really think the French could save them, they will be in for one hell of a disappointment over the frogs.

FtfX4.jpg

A specialized form of medicine is developed to increase the effectiveness of the treatment to the wounded in the many wars the Republic will yet have to fight for freedom, ensuring many more will survive without permanent injuries compared to before. The Riograndense soldier can be assured he won't ever be left behind on the field.

Aazyz.jpg

Then, some French came, a lot of them actually. Thus, to not disrupt the main front, the people are called to fight against them and show them how big of a mistake they have done. Some German blood flows in their veins and they will soon show these frogs that even if they aren't Prussians, they can fight as well as them and make Frenchies raise white flags as oftenly as well.

5ZC6R.jpg

To fully surround the white flag bearers, another Brazilian force was also taken care of, and foolishly, they retreated to join the French, thinking this way they stood a chance. Hundreds of thousands are ready to fight to death for Rio Grande do Sul, how can they expect to win? The imperialist meddlers will soon raise the white flag!

In a single battle, the Frenchies suffered devastating casualties while the Brazilians got another entire army wiped out at once. To achieve such a victory against a nation considered the second greatest power on Earth has been the reason of vast celebrations over Porto Alegre, and of reassurance they can and will win the war. So much reassurance the jingoists were suggesting to take over Paraná as well for sure, and then, with such achievement, there would be enough justification for becoming something greater after the war is over. Comparisons with the Kwanzanian Independence war already emerged, as now it involved a struggle against a technically mightier European Great Power too and a Republican revolution seeking to challenge a monarchy as the legitimate State of the Brazilian nation.

a3XrZ.jpg

Where Brazil humiliated the French expeditionary forces, the megalomaniacal dictator of Paraguay realizes his foolishness too late, and now if lucky he'll get a white peace out of this, and some minor territories from Argentina, which is losing the war against them.

XTovR.jpg

Even as the war carried on, the legitimacy of the ideals of Liberty the Republic stood for increased. Now all votes were secret, and no longer could the ruling party intimidate people to vote for them. Extension of the voting franchise was also only a matter of time, and universal suffrage shall happen in this century!

The blockade didn't chance the outlook of the conflict, but it was hurting the economy of the country, unable to defy it. Nevertheless, they will endure it, and crush them over land!

Researches over naval technology may be worth both militarily and economically if Rio Grande do Sul manages to acquire direct control over the raw materials needed for the construction of steamer convoys, but right now a naval industry is not particularly interesting.

Lcypg.jpg

With their military might on the rise and confirmed, the Republican Guard, while the people received more news of great victories over the front and of how Rio de Janeiro would soon be invaded, performed a very prestigious and glorious march on the streets of Porto Alegre, flaunting the might, glory and success of the small but highly capable standing army of the country and also of the large, brave and equally victorious reserves ready to answer to a mobilization call to fight for their greatest country.

Some of the Great Powers, France in particular, were not pleased with such display of power, which included some demonstrations of prototype bolt action rifles in a local fair funded by the army. Firearms to the gaucho became in the decades since their separation from Brazil as commonly valued in their psyche as they are in Kwanzania, not in any small part because of how much and how hard they had to fight for their liberty to give ears to a bunch of retarded hippies and mafia-funded lobbies preaching about gun control.

Riograndense casualties: possibly less than five thousand*

Unfortunately the wordy, intelligent and reasonable justification for why Paraná rightfully belonged to Rio Grande do Sul didn't work that much, but now there will be no step back about it.

While Brazil is falling apart, to further help their cause, the Republic gives considerable support to the abolitionist movement in the decadent empire.

May of 1862 was a remarkable date. First, because it was when the population of Rio Grande do Sul reached the mark of 10 million inhabitants, confirming its place as the second most populous country of the entire American continent after Kwanzania itself. Second, because Rio de Janeiro was about to be conquered, marking a decisive achievement that would be forever remembered in History, the beginning of the end for this slavery-supporting and backwards monarchy denying to the Brazilian people any chances of the nation ever rising above the cultural, educational, societal and economical degeneracy of being a former exploitation colony.

The Juliana Republic, and soon, the Republic of Parana, shall together rise from the fall of Rio de Janeiro in May 15th, 1862, the day of the greatest victory of Rio Grande do Sul against Brazil, the day their very capital fell, for only in liberty can a truly mighty nation rise. From little more than five hundred thousand inhabitants in the 1830s to over 10 million inhabitants thirty years later, they now triumph as the undisputed regional power over South America, achieving victory even against an European Great Power.

Even during the war, the elections must never be interrupted.

Realizing their demise, they tried to get away more lightly than they deserve to. However, the Republic was resolute in liberating the entire Southern Brazil from the decadence and backwardedness.

RIO GRANDE DO SUL STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!

CCpFu.jpg

GREATTST COUNTREY!

However, everything would change as more frogs embarked, and this time, in Porto Alegre, as a gambit to try putting an end to the conflict in favor of Brazil. Of course, they were too arrogant to consider that even if just deployed, the brave patriots might be capable of crushing them.

9StnS.jpg

To victory! CHARGE!

The French established some fortifications, and they had to cross a river to reach the damn invaders, but nevertheless, they advanced valiantly, and no matter how many fell, and despite poorly organized, they carried on.

Meanwhile, as one of the most decisive battles in this war continued, the World Fair in Kwanzania began. The Riograndense delegation had a fine display, although they were somewhat overshadowed by the more culturally-focused European nations. So what? Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism or whatever else they can show off never won any wars.

il1Gq.jpg

Although suffering heavy losses due to their poorer equipment as conscripts, due to how dug-in the frogs were, sitting on trenches as typical frogs, coupled with the river crossing, and mostly due to some damn dices, they still secured Porto Alegre, as now they marched into pursuit of another defeated French army. The war was approaching a decisive end, but there was a war justification to still conclude, and even once over, it would still be only the beginning.

As far as I remember, doomstacking doesn't help at all, since only a certain number of units can participate in a battle at once. The rest just stand around uselessly waiting to massively die of attrition when the battle ends: It is better to organize your forces into waves, and when one force takes too much damage, replace it with a new wave, and when those guys arrive, withdraw the old forces, causing the fresh reinforcements to immediately take to the battlefield and continue afresh. The retreated wave will then be able to recuperate behind the lines, and you can prepare a third wave to relieve the second in the same way. If it drags on long enough, perhaps the original waves will even have recovered to be used again. Hurled in as a giant furball, no one can leave unless all leave, and if the battle ends, the massive overstack will slaughter thousands in attrition.

This may be considered to be ungood.
