Vaarna_Aarne, there is something really wrong happening after a province switches its production to rubber, because after that most of the farmer pops end unemployed despite a massive demand for rubber. Do you know if there is any way to fix that?
It is the Catastrophy of RGO Hiring Bottleneck.

Basically, there is a hard limit on the number of people an RGO can hire each day (500, sheesh). I have never found out what decides the limit. I think the idea behind the cap is that it prevents EVERYONE from becoming Farmers, and fuels Emigration and Industrial growth. Maybe.

Personally, what I would do is make the Focus on Farmer/Labourer (these should be a single goddamn focus ffs) remove the limit, so you actually can tell your people "I need fucking coal, get back in the fucking mountain."

Any idea about which file is that limit located at? Or is it hardcoded?

Stop complaining, I even photoshopped some pics for this update. But of course, more updates only on page 7. Also... one more thing, I think I may add some events to make fascism become more relevant in this turn of the century unless some really powerful countries become fascist without any push. The "great war" mechanics POPDemand adds may turn the whole conflict for South America into something much, much, much bigger from 1900 onwards, and thanks to increased RPs due to plurality and over 50% literacy, I think it's possible for Libertadores to get up to date in naval tech by the 1910s, so this LP will likely end like those famous FFF ones in massive wars still raging by the game end.

Norsefire Great Britain? Libertadores backed guerrilla leader with a Guy Fawkes mask?

*Edit: Looks like it was possible after all to change the color of a country even for ongoing games. Therefore, after this update, that unfitting yellow will be finally gone from the map and from the Libertadores uniforms, and of course, the red came in.

Libertad, aunque tardía. Mientras tanto nació el Fascismo

Before starting the long struggle for freeing South America from imperialism, the Libertadores had an election to go through. It was a tight victory, another battle perhaps tougher than the one about to be fought, but once again socialism triumphed over the hearts and minds of the people, and soon it shall triumph on the battlefields as well.

To make justice to their anti-military ideal, first, the Libertadores sent an ultimatum to Kwanzania, for them to let all South American countries become free and independent again, if they prefer peace over war. Predictably, in their pride and hubris, they have refused to prevent the only war they will fight against an enemy that has conditions to make them pay for their imperialism.

AMERIKWA IS FUCKED

:yeah:

QG3iy.jpg

The battle lines are drawn. Two Great Powers stand now in open war for the future of the continent. Driven by the conflict, socialist and communist revolutionaries across the world, believing this is the beginning of the end, have risen in arms against the old order, bringing revolution to Libertadores foes, satellites and allies alike.

uoDqY.jpg

The small army of Liberia invades the Libertadores African territories, with the small garrisson over there too small to stand a chance offensively. The tales that spread about their doings involve machetes and rape, causing a new wave racism even among the socialists, and some of them begin to claim that "socialism only works with white people", specially in the kraut influenced state of Rio Grande do Sul.

hspVu.jpg

The Kwanzanian forces in South America were very small. They probably thought that having a big navy and larger army would scare off the Libertadores, and now they will see it. Over the gas-ridden forests of Curuzu Croatioa... I mean Curuzu Cuatia, those who fight for imperialism have met their deserving end. At first confident for their numerical superiority, when the bullets came out of the deep and vast trenches while ITZ began to flow from the artillery shells and the first symptoms of exposure to ITZ emerged, they simply began to break apart and wail desperatedly, and their casualties ramped up to massive numbers, but in their arrogance, their officers shot retreating kwans and demanded them to keep advancing no matter what.

OndZy.jpg

The combination of their devastating chemical weapons with the deep trenches were ensuring that for every Brazilian killed, countless more manboons were slaughtered, and, incentived by having generous wages in spite of the anti-military lobby, the officers of the Libertadores provided excellent leadership.

FqYJo.jpg

Patriots rise against the traitors who sold out their countries as the Kwanzanian Slaughter proceeds.

0kMGW.jpg

The new prime minister of the Libertadores was an old union boss, reputed for his support for many of the social reforms already enacted. His presence in the government raises the desire of the people for further improvements, in spite of significant numbers of liberals and conservatives remaining in the upper house as obstacles to such.

DgpT6.jpg

robert-mugabe1.jpg

The Great American War ripples through the world, as encouraged by the victories of the proletariat in America, a great leader and revolutionary born as the result of literal Dutch sodomy, being the son of a Dutch sodomite with a black woman, Robert Van Mugabe, has seized control of the boer Natal and established a new brand of authoritarian socialism, turning Natal into the first socialist dictatorship of the world. One of his first measures was the end of the apartheid, with blacks and boers being given the same rights as citizens, which in a totalitarian state account to none. The Libertadores refuse to associate with this state, as this development also sends another ripple, one that may soon cause a permanent schism between libertarian socialists and the so called communists.

lH29R.jpg

Better artillery is developed, to propel even more efficiently ITZ through the air. The battle at Croati... Cuatia has become a massacre, with the Libertadores suffering minor casualties compared to the forces of Yankee imperialism.

Upxg2.jpg

privatisation_of_the_amazon_by_latuff2.jpg

Their arrogant government however doesn't even know what they don't know about how badly they are losing right now, and thus decides to openly declare their imperialistic ambitions, probably shared by other imperialists, over the Amazon rainforest as its wealth in the critically important rubber. They clearly have shown their true colors, and soon this ambition will become a shot over their own foot as the failure to achieve it may rise the militancy of their own people highl enough to trigger a revolution and get IWW to do something against such decline of their country.

5g7j0.jpg

return to cuatia

The Battle of Curuzu Cuatia, if it could be called one, was the demonstration of the might of ITZ, the first mass deployment chemical weapon of the world, as it led to the slaughter of over forty thousand kwans, a nearly 20:1 casualty ratio in favor of the Libertadores. They were crushed, and before the survivors could return to tell the news of the superiority of the Libertadores over the land, they would perish as well. No mercy to the imperialist lackeys!

L7TA4.jpg

Oblivious to what they were about to face, another much larger Amerikwan army engaged deeply entrenched Libertadores soldiers over northern Argentina, and right over the first days, they again suffered devastating casualties, but their arrogant leadership sent the poor soldiers like cattle to the slaughterhouse, after all, they were nothing but tools of imperialism, and even if they have been lied to, deluded, there was no other way. The freedom of many justifies the sacrifice of a few. May their deaths for an unjust cause serve to awaken the flames of revolution in North America.

seUUb.jpg

The first Kwanstain army that hoped for certain victory has been completely routed. A few prisoners of war were taken, for most died. The Libertadores will honor the Geneva conventions they signed regarding them.

fTK3o.jpg

Mexico has been for decades over the Kwan sphere of influence, but this does not mean they have any kind of positive feelings for the imperialists who stole most of their land under totally absurd justifications. Thus, in a fortunate if unexpected event, they offered military access to the Libertadores, which means that, once South America is fully freed from imperialism, they will have a clear land route to strike at the very heart of Kwa with the power of ITZ.

1D4dN.jpg

The conservatives and liberals continue to fight futilely for the old world of bourgeois rule, as a national tragedy finally spikes the needed justification for the Libertadores to begin implementing minimum work safety laws by force of the executive, bypassing the approval on the upper house. Naturally, this leads to massive butthurt from the reactionary and conservative forces, and also of the liberals, who accuse it of being a small step into authoritarianism as obviously they have been too well groomed and pampered to have any idea of the reality of the mines and factories.

FCwa1.jpg

Another slaughter. Few battles in History have been feature by so uneven casualties, and this other devastating victory emboldened the Libertadores high command. The jingoists believed Uruguay only was too little, that they had to take advantage of their superiority right now, to demand as much as they can, even if for such crushing armistice to be accepted, they had to march right into Washington itself.

KaavV.jpg

Even while the war continued, vitamins began to be distributed through public hospitals to increase the health of the people.

cZhag.jpg

By 1895, another imperialist army was also wiped out. The casualties of the Kwans now numbered above a hundred thousand. Yet in their arrogance they still refused to concede even only Uruguay, thus a war justification was on the way for adding Mexico to the sphere of influence of the Libertadores, as a great step to rid Latin America of imperialism.

yXp1k.jpg

The trenches have become even more formidable. Many believed that the Libertadores were for now invincible against the forces of imperialism and bourgeoisie. Let them all march and die on the mud, struck down by machinegun fire or ITZ, until South America is free again.

0hzgm.jpg

Some socialists strongly opposed the ongoing war, on the grounds that, because they had to import certain supplies, they were ironically giving profit to the bourgeoisie and that the peoples of South America could only truly emancipate through their own will rather through war waged by foreigners. The benefits of a crushing victory however were spoused as more than justifiable. Even if they killed the workers of the United States for the cause, they remembered all that Kwanzania had a chance to prevent this, and have chosen war instead, and therefore, the workers who shall die here are all the fault of the bourgeois-serving government and false democracy of Kwa.

gtrWH.jpg

Things were going badly in Madagascar, but the government has chosen to let the counter-revolutionaries kill each other rather than intervene immediately. Dozens of thousands died in the chaos of machetes, but they got what they asked for.

2U3dI.jpg

Artillery manufacturing has advanced due to the recent military developments. Since the Libertadores reached the apex of army technology, for now, they began to invest heavily in a long neglected field: the development of railroads. The invention of the automobile was proven to be insufficient, trucks being far less efficient than trains, specially for the transportation of bulk materials.

9sZBY.jpg

Those who support the imperialists shall meet ITZ as certainly as the imperialists themselves. Three thousand Red Vanguard troops are the only available forces to defend Madagascar, as unfortunately the other three thousand failed to escape the occupation, and thus locally the Finns outnumber them as much as the over 90 thousand strong Amerikwan army that was reduced to nothing did in the battle they lost. What they will experience soon will probably be enough to convince them to a white peace. It's not like Kwanzania would do anything but leave them to fend for themselves if Russia decides to be Russia anyway.

3HvpQ.jpg

With the realization they cannot stop the Libertadores, the Africans are gradually giving up any nationalistic ideas. They should be glad for soon they will be uplifted from such primitive state of existence and for the improved public education and healthcare they now have access to.

zlGYy.jpg

Foolishly, the Finns had no idea of what was coming to them, and thought they had an easy victory ahead in Madagascar. When the first mortar shells began to release ITZ, it was already too late for them to correct their mistake.

However, as the world polarized between the ancien regimes and socialism, a new political development was coming straight from the oldest and mightiest of all empires.

g9488.jpg

VforVendettaNorsefire.jpg

With their traditional counter-revolutions failed, the entrenched elites and reactionaries have forged a new political ideal, Fascism. Rising first in Great Britain, in the form of a movement known as Norsefire, fascism, like a cancer, would soon spread all accross the world, driven by populism and the rhetoric of hate to recruit the less enlightened among the workers. The president of the Libertadores, upon hearing the news, commented:

"Fascism is the greatest enemy of the proletariat. No empire, no matter how vile, no matter how much its history was writ in blood and slavery, can match the dangers this new ideology pose the the well-being and liberty of all peoples, and its capability of inflicting greater misery than ever since the days of the Roman Empire."

The fascists seek to revert all political and social progresses the workers of the world have achieved in smaller or greater degree, and create a totalitarian state capitalist society, although their rhetoric was deceptively dodgy on the matter of reverting social reforms, as many also tried to disguise themselves under partly socialist concepts. Some fascist ideologies are even further tainted by a form of racism greater than any previously practiced one, opposing immigrant minorities, Jews in particular, perhaps due to Karl Marx being one of them, in a wave of racial hatred strong enough to rekindle the pogroms, or perhaps worse, that is right now followed only by a minority, but that may soon change.

I4paV.jpg

55Tw9.jpg

To discover the psychological mechanisms that influence people beliefs will be paramount to ensure the victory of socialism in a infinitelymore important front and battlefield than the ones in the ongoing war: the minds and hearts of the people. Now that fascism also appeared to oppose the ideals of freedom, equality and humanity, the Libertadores need to ensure that the issues leading to the resentments that turn people to believe in such self-destructive ideas will be gone. For, as a socialist democracy, should fascism become too popular, specially among the still combined majority of liberals and conservatives, who only fail to win the elections because of refusal to form an united coalition against the socialists due to their ideological differences, the threat of all that they fought for being undone by the very mechanisms that allowed them to triumph could become real. And the defeat and immense war exhaustion of Kwa could as likely lead to the rise of socialism through the drastic militancy as to fascist Kwanzania too.

ys7f4.jpg

Kwan casualties have gone past one hundred fifty thousand, while the Finns are regretting their choice to ally with Kwa.

GHGoi.jpg

Improvement of zeroing of the cannons is achieved. The Finnish cavalry lost almost 50% of their forces.

d4wV3.jpg

There may happen successful cavalry battles yet, but Tananarive wasn't one of them.

4od8G.jpg

Artillery guns are becoming bigger and mightier. Like the infamous inventor of the most powerful shells in the night said:

I AM BECOME ITZ, DESTROYER OF KWANS.

FGRzZ.jpg

There was some doubt about the idea of making Mexico something better than a Banana Republic, but eventually, all the massive victories were more than enough for the government most skeptic congressmen about war to agree Uruguay was definitively too little. If they succeed at purging the Yankee influence from Mexico, not only this will secure them an open way to give Kwanstain a lesson again if necessary, but also deliver them almost as much prestige as the construction of the Panama Channel.

J7lWj.jpg

It was natural for the Libertadores to develop the first infantry protection equipment against chemical weapons, being the developers of the first chemical weapon. Now the soldiers of the socialist revolution were secured against potential retaliation should the Kwa develop their own chemical weapons in the future, against winds blowing ITZ towards the direction of those who fired it, and against friendly fire as well, should it happen.

TgDT7.jpg

Finland and Hamburg realized this war was totally of no interest for them. At least Hamburg had the good sense of just making it a phony war, where the Finns boldly and foolishly tried to make a difference where they couldn't, for the unjust cause of imperialism. When the first chemical weapons were fired, they were as shocking to the enemy as to those who fired them unaware of their devastating capabilities, but chemical weapons were not the end of the science of The Brazilian Slaughter, although the development of a brand of even more destructive weapons of mass destruction would only come with the rise and development of quantum physics by about the half of the next century.

dp4IF.jpg

The South American phase of the war could be described by two words: Kwanzanian Slaughter. It was a total, undisputed victory for the Libertadores, but not enough to achieve more than the war goals they were already seeking. Whether to proceed towards the heart of the Yankee imperialism or not remained a hot topic of debate. War exhaustion however was hitting the country. Despite attempts at autarky, the Libertadores were not self-sufficient, and although over land they were more crushed than a skull of pig, over the seas their navies blockaded the entire coast of Brazil without interruption, and although this did nothing to stop the victories against them, this was hurting countless people and causing difficulties and deprivations of many needs. A feeling of revanchism and fraternity to their hermanos(bros) however kept them willing to endure such blockades, but slowly malcontents and opponents of the socialist government were taking advantage of the harm caused by these blockades, and among these were the just established Integralists, composing the South American just established branch of fascism.

Zv0c8.jpg

Hoping that the hardships the blockades were bringing would grant them only minimal territorial losses, and aware they lost this war, the Kwans agreed to the current demand of Uruguay, unaware of the War Justification for freeing Mexico from their influence that was on the way. Of course, this offer was refused. They will pay even more for their imperialism!

xtdAj.jpg

Perhaps the counter-intelligence in the Libertadores is very effective, because the quantity of soldiers they shipped through sea to attempt turning the tide of the war in the South American fronts is a strong evidence they remain oblivious to the fact the Libertadores have access to chemical weapons. Their only odds would be in numerical superiority, and preferably defensive battles, and instead they are sending their workers to die for their unjust cause by the hundreds of thousands. Hundreds of thousands of families suffering because of the greed of a few fat cats. Hopefully the orphaned sons shall lead a revolution that shall free Amerikwa from the yoke of these exploiters for once and all.

3dk7T.jpg

With the war still by and far favorable for the Libertadores, their economy and state funds resisiting the blockade, they decided to add the liberation of Mexico to their objectives. But is this sufficient, or perhaps, should they go even further than that?

jguOk.jpg

The casualties of the United States approach two hundred thousand. This is turning to be as horrible for Kwa as the Finnish Winter War of another timeline was for the Soviet Union.

9W6Ba.jpg

Scholarships began to be offered to the brightest and smartest among the proletariat all the way to university education. Although ideally university education should be achievable by all, it would, under the current technological conditions of the industry, lead to a majority of frustrated workers for being unable to apply their knowledge to the fullest and feeling themselves underemployed. Once technology becomes advanced enough for the most menial tasks to no longer require direct human labor, perhaps it would be desirable then for universal higher education to become reality.

VyYkH.jpg

When machineguns became standardized, many considered them to be "overkill" at this point. But even worse casualty ratios for Kwa will be always better.

PzgPe.jpg

By September of 1896, most of South America has been freed from Amerikwan imperialism, their armies crushed again and again, while population trends changed towards greater growth, which was of course good at this point.

whd7d.jpg

By November, despite occupying most of Libertadores West Africa, well aware of how the war was going, Liberia agreed to a white peace. Now this was only between the Libertadores of America and the United States of America.

AA6aG.jpg

With all enemy forces crushed and most territories already secured, several red armies were already en route to North America, even though they were unsure on whether the war would indeed continue or not, for the blockades have lasted years now, and the people were tired of war. Some were proposing for the Libertadores to agree with Uruguay and Mexico and leave the rest for another conflict. Yet, the common soldier, hailed as hero and liberator in near every city of South America, because they became nothing but exploitation colonies for Kwa since their crooked politicians sold out their sovereignties, thought differently, and the knowledge that for every of their fellow soldiers that fell, dozens of kwans died, combined with the certainty they were waging this war for a good and just cause, drove the military to insist on bringing it on to Kwanzania itself now, as generals already ordered for many armies to move to Mexico in preparation for the next and perhaps most important stage of this conflict.

OOQwb.jpg

SaudacaoIntegralista1935.jpg

To continue the war or to end it now, as Kwanzania is more than willing to agree with their current demands for peace? While the government of the Libertadores pondered on this question, there was another problem and negative consequence of the deprivations the blockades of the Kwan navy caused. Once insignificant, having little more than 1% of the seats in the upper house, structured to have Senators based on the collected ideologies of the population, the Senate of the Libertadores has changed as the Integralists more than quadrupled their presence in the House in only one year, led by a charismatic figure known as The Brazilian Slaughter, who was rapidly managing to convince many to believe the Integralist fascism was a better way of life than socialism, although, technically speaking, from an economic standpoint there was little difference between the policies of the Colorados and of the Integralists, as both stood for state capitalist economics due to different reasons, even if the former also equally stands for workers rights and improved life conditions. The big difference was the matter of political freedom, where they were the exact opposites.

IntegralismoCartaz1937.jpg

Continuing the war would unfortunately lead indirectly to the increase of the popularity of the integralist movement in Brazil, as they claimed the interests of the Brazilian people were being ignored in the name of an Utopian and delusional idea of uniting South America, evoking Brazilian nationalism against the internationalist ideals of the Libertadores. Meanwhile, the government was starting to have daily losses rather than incomes, thus eventually, although the financial State reserves were vast, they would run out.

To continue the war to free hispanic South America, at the expensive of causing fascism to become more popular in Brazil, or to agree with peace only in exchange for Uruguay and taking Mexico from the Kwa sphere of influence? The answer to this difficult question would forever shape the future of the entire American continent.
