Mission VI - Walk Through Crystal Dreams

Soundtrack

row0619.jpg

Right, so I moved the guardians to barracks to await further deployment and hired dire avengers.

row0620.jpg

row0621.jpg

Here's the map.

row0622.jpg

row0624.jpg

row0626.jpg

row0628.jpg

row0630.jpg

row0632.jpg

The mimes squad lead by Jewyadin is the one we're supposed to escort to the webway gate. The red hex indicates this is a mission-critical unit, and losing it = mission failed.

row0633.jpg

Splitting forces and going north might be tricky due to the narrow chokepoint and rocky terrain, so we'll do it like this. We'll first go with everyone, and then split forces 50/50 to the gate and the farm house.

row0634.jpg

First enemies spotted.

row0636.jpg

Shoopin' hawks engage in a dogfight.

row0639.jpg

row0640.jpg

More imperial dudes to the north.

row0643.jpg

Likewise to the south.

row0645.jpg

And even more appear from the northeast.

row0647.jpg

Dumb jump marines get fried trying to attack fire dragons.

row0649.jpg

Vypers soften another jump marine squad.

The jump marines attacked by the hawks are running away, so I sent the hawks after them to finish them off...

row0650.jpg

... and most likely doomed them in the process.

row0651.jpg

row0653.jpg

Meanwhile on the southern front.

row0655.jpg

I mop up the jump marines.

row0656.jpg

Brave scouts trying to make a difference

row0657.jpg

Meanwhile, the hawks are under heavy attack.

row0660.jpg

Great. We know what this means.

row0662.jpg

High time to gtfo.

row0663.jpg

Here you can witness how deadly the harlequins can be against squishy targets.

row0664.jpg

Meanwhile, a new enemy unit is spotted.

row0665.jpg

Devastator marines. Those space bros are real motherfuckers. Think of them as fire dragons on steroids: their lascannons give them armour piercing, but they also have excellent defence (better than regular sm, I think), range of 2 and good ranged damage. They will cause much trouble in our coming campaigns.

row0668.jpg

Meanwhile, fire dragons, laser and vypers harrass the jump marines.

row0669.jpg

Warlock, mimes and fire dragons finish off the remnants of the scouts and guardsmen.

row0673.jpg

And by some strange miracle, the hawks manage to withstand another assault.

row0674.jpg

Let's keep running and hope the dumb AI will lose interest and target the vypers or something. I send some of the more mobile units (avengers, vypers and scatter laser) to aid the hawks

row0675.jpg

row0676.jpg

There goes the autocannon.

row0677.jpg

Alas, there go our swooping hawks. Guess I've just found a use for the guardians in the barracks...

row0678.jpg

The forces stationed here try to avenge our fallen bros and reduce the jump marines to 4 hp

row0683.jpg

Harlequins invade the site, but find nothing inside.

row0684.jpg

Jump bros attack the scorpions, who were previously attacked by devastators (-6 hp).

row0685.jpg

Uhm... shit.

This is very, very bad. You see, if an enemy captures your starting location - you lose. I hoped I could stop the lone jump marines from doing it, but now that a second squad entered the vicinity, I think we're boned.

row0687.jpg

Craven cowardice removes the ones who are on the run.

row0688.jpg

But there's not really anything the lone vypers can do to stop the other ones, and unless the jump marines lack moving range to get to our starting position, we're fucked.

row0691.jpg

Heavy casualties on the eastern front. Marine devastators are really tough.

row0692.jpg

Mazel tov.

row0693.jpg

Some more enemies.

row0694.jpg

And there's that...

row0695.jpg

:rage:

I knew this would end like this right from the start when I decided not to split the forces and go north.

But whatev, we shall return next time and fix our mistakes with X-TREME prejudice. The humans will know the wrath of Craftworld Codexia!

This was one of the few missions I completed on my first try without casualties :smug:

I used the plat, hawks and viper to destroy all the asms that attacked from the north while the rest of my dudes pushed forward. The real problem for me was towards the end, but we'll get to that next update I think.

Nice to see you haven't abandoned this thread.

This is a game that really awards turtling. Letting some of your units get too far ahead of the rest is likely to doom them, but the AI doesn't realise this. So you can pick off the AI easily if you keep your forces close.
Of course, when you're near a librarian, bunching up is not the best of ideas, but for almost all other foes, it's the Clever Thing To Do.

Fuck-kitty-fuck. :(

I missed this thread initialy beacuse I was certain that it's just root's shitty LP only with the title changed for the lulz.

:salute:

To atone for my past mistakes I bring you this:

Proper fix for running Chaos Gate on XP

:smug:

I haven't tried this myself by I plan to...

Mission VIb - Walk Through Crystal Dreams 2.0

Soundtrack: 4:15

It would appear the previous strike team has been cut off from the Craftworld and lost somewhere on the surface of the planet, so another one was sent after it, following a short briefing from Farseer Badass, when he heard what happened to the last expedition.

farseer.jpg
Quit your jibby-jabba, You ain't hurt, yo pathetic! If I ever catch you acting like a crazy fool again, you're gonna meet my friend pain!

Let us start then!

row0696.jpg

Here's how we split forces:

row0697.jpg

A balanced detachment of moderately mobile troops will go north. Scorpions for melee, avengers for ranged, fire dragons for support, Jewyadin for scouting and hawks for air superiority.

row0698.jpg

While the rest will keep advancing east.

row0700.jpg

It begins much like the last time, with hawks doing skirmishes with jump marines.

row0701.jpg

Enemies are sighted at the river bank.

row0703.jpg

Hawks keep pestering the marines.

row0704.jpg

Some action about to come down on the eastern front.

row0707.jpg

Faggets bumrushing my harlequins.

row0711.jpg

But then I bumrush them right back.

row0714.jpg

Next turn, we have them surrounded and nearly crushed.

row0715.jpg

One jump marine squad flees from the hawks, but a new one appears. It's like those faggots refuse to end.

row0716.jpg

Autocannon opens fire on the fresh dire avengers, inflicting many wounds.

row0718.jpg

MEANWHILE...

row0719.jpg

Instead of trying to run, the dumb jump marines launch a suicide attack.

row0720.jpg

Here's the current situation in the north. In case you can't see, there are the two fleeing jump marines, a scout, an autocannon and guardsmen.

row0723.jpg

We launch an attack against one of the jump marines.

row0724.jpg

While vypers show the other ones that they have nowhere to run.

row0728.jpg

Scorpions and fire dragons smack down the autocannon.

row0729.jpg

Jump marines try to harm our avengers, suffer heavy losses and flee north.

row0731.jpg

Vypers keep shoopin' the other spacebros and spot a leman russ.

row0732.jpg

Yet another jump marine squad appears in the north. This is getting old.

row0733.jpg

Devastators appear and attack dire avengers with minor success.

row0735.jpg

The fleeing jump marines come back and launch a suicide attack. It was probably supposed to serve some purpose, but don't ask me what.

row0736.jpg

The other jump marines whack our fire dragons.

row0741.jpg

Meanwhile, the devastators are crushed beneath our iron wraithbone bootheels.

row0747.jpg

And the hawks finally get rid of one of the jumpers.

row0748.jpg

After that, we slaughter some lone guardsmen.

row0753.jpg

And spot more enemy troops.

row0757.jpg

The Spehs Marines attempt to push our steamroller-force back.

row0759.jpg

They aren't particularly successful.

row0760.jpg

Meanwhile, hawks are stuck in another dogfight.

row0762.jpg

I launch a counterattack with extreme prejudice, opening with harlequins driving back the whirlwind.

row0765.jpg

Dire avengers aided by laser cannon finish the jump marines. This opens the way for scorpions to smack the whirlwind again.

row0768.jpg

Meanwhile, the northern troops finally encounter land infantry.

row0769.jpg

The whirlwind hauls its broken arse to a nearby fortress and a guardsmen assault squad appears out of nowhere.

row0773.jpg

Avengers, dragons and scorpions eliminate the scout squad.

row0774.jpg

Here we crush the spacebros and guardsmen.

row0781.jpg

While some dumb jump marines think they are clever and try attack our vypers.

row0782.jpg

Others, in the meantime, attempt to assault our northern dire avengers.

row0783.jpg

And are taken down in the next turn by hawks.

row0786.jpg

The eastern jump marines don't live too long.

row0787.jpg

The whirlwind that ran away earlier is back in full strength and unleashes a salvo against the fire dragons (whirlwinds really seem to hate fire dragons).

row0791.jpg

In the north we crush sum guardsmen.

row0792.jpg

And keep steamrolling the autocannon for good measure.

row0797.jpg

After a quick assault, the whirlwind explodes, taking its foolish crew with it.

row0798.jpg

And we investigate the fortress.

row0799.jpg

Weeeeeeee.

row0800.jpg

OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE, WHAT IS THIS, JUMP MARINE COUNTRY?

row0801.jpg

Time to fumigate.

row0802.jpg

Sayonara.

Also, we send the scorpions to investigate the farmhouse.

row0804.jpg

Osnap!

ITZ A TRAP

The scorpions are hit by a booby trap and lose 4 bros. But that is still enough to get rid of the 2-strength autocannon.

row0810.jpg

Guardsmen almost suicide.

row0811.jpg

Jump marines get raepd.

row0812.jpg

Then same with the assault squad.

Same old, same old.

row0813.jpg

Hawks explore the fortress but find nothing worth mentioning.

row0814.jpg

Our forces are rejoined, and can prepare to assault the librarian defending the webway gate.

row0815.jpg

Harlequin moves ahead and finds the spehs marine remnants, including the leman russ we've seen all the way before.

row0816.jpg

Tanks hate fire dragons.

row0819.jpg

And fire dragons hate tanks, melting them into a nice pile of smoldering ruin.

row0820.jpg

It seems the space marines' magnificent tactic is to send single bros against us and let them die.

row0824.jpg

row0825.jpg

OSNAP.

row0826.jpg

Sitting around will accomplish nothing, so we begin the final assault.

row0828.jpg

Scorpions shred the devastators to pieces, leaving barely two bros alive.

row0833.jpg

While vypers, 2x avengers, harlequins and laser try to keal the librarian.

row0834.jpg

The librarian drops another nuke on our arses.

row0835.jpg

The dumb devastators fire upon avengers instead of resting.

row0836.jpg

Harlequins turn 'em into a twisted mass of burnt decay in their next turn.

After that, we try to attack the librarian, who is a pretty tough bastard. The attack can be quickly summarised by this:

row0838.jpg

row0841.jpg

But finally, the psyker is put down, and the webway gate is ours for the taking.

row0843.jpg

row0844.jpg

Weeeeeee.

row0845.jpg

row0846.jpg

row0847.jpg

Here's the artifact. It's pretty useless, but I guess we can leave it with the scouts.

row0848.jpg

Also, Jewyadin and his squad are promoted to harlequins.

row0849.jpg

While our warlock advances into a warlock champion :smug:

row0850.jpg

This means, our borderline useless warlock has now become an unstoppable killing machine. Thanks to this:

row0851.jpg

This abillity has a range of... 4, I think and doesn't provoke any retaliation. If lucky, two uses of executioner can rip a leman russ to shreds.

We shall make sure to abuse this ability as much as possible :smug:

And that would be all for today. Stay tuned, for the next mission should be p. tough, if I remember correctly. And even if it's not, the one following it is, I think, one of the best in-game :M

The +1 spotting range item your new harlequins have is actually quite useful, especially when given to the harlequins. Their spotting range and segmented movement makes them excellent scouts. As long as they don't get caught in the open within striking distance of the enemy. :smug:

Also, for the update.

Oh, great. I was about to update, had the whole thing compiled. I click 'preview' to check whether all the screens are working, and what do I see?

BANDWIDTH EXCEEDED, SUCK ON THAT, COCKMUNCHER!

So yeah, guess you'll have to wait 'till february because I'm too fucking lazy to reupload all the stuff to my second photobucket account and edit the links in the compiled update :M
