I heard roxor lost all his units next mission and that it will be the last by necessity. Bumping is therefore mandatory :M

Some points of interest:

row3620.jpg

row3622.jpg

row3624.jpg

row3626.jpg

row3629.jpg

And this is our objective.

bernhardt.png
These towers are plagued by a pestilence that I am here to cure! With steel and fire!

We salute your fervour, commander Bernhardt :salute:

row3631.jpg

Here are our troops. As you can see, we now have three farseers

Also, it turned out I was a little ronk last time when I said we have no new places in our army. We actually had one empty spot, so I took a vibro cannon

row3632.jpg

Some enemy dudes.

row3636.jpg

Some enemy dudes dying to our dudes.

row3637.jpg

And some more enemy dudes.

row3638.jpg

All attacked enemies are wiped out. Aerial units will move east to crush the incoming hordes of genestealers and then proceed north. Going through both the river and the hills would slow down our ground troops considerably, so only aerial ones will take this way.

row3641.jpg

row3648.jpg

oshi-

row3649.jpg

Fortunately, terminators are fat against conventional weaponry, and those sucky tyranid warriors can't do shit against them (especially when there's 3x support fire heading their way)

row3650.jpg

bernhardt.png
Enemy sighted!

row3652.jpg

We keep mopping up the genestealers.

row3654.jpg

And we proceed with heavy rape.

row3662.jpg

The friggin lictors kinda suck, but they can do lots of direct damage from time to time.

row3666.jpg

row3668.jpg

row3673.jpg

row3674.jpg

The derelict fortress seems well-guarded.

row3677.jpg

The genestealers are defenceless against our long-ranged forces stationed on the other side of the river and quickly die.

row3686.jpg

Some venom warriors pop out of nowhere and blast half the sob squad away.

row3687.jpg

More hybrids come join the fun at the fortress.

row3689.jpg

row3692.jpg

row3693.jpg

Oshit.

Well, that hurt. Both the dire avenger and the assault termies are at 4 hp.

row3696.jpg

These genestealers either try to flank us, or go for our dropships. Either way, they shall be intercepted by the Avatar.

row3698.jpg

row3701.jpg

One of the land raiders is wrecked, the other flees for its life.

row3706.jpg

Now, take a good look at this screenshot. Nothing wrong can happen here, huh?

row3707.jpg

Hah! The Avenger eludes death yet aga-

row3708.jpg

:rage:

The dumbfuck sufferred a morale failure and ran straight into the firing range of biovores. He probably would have survived if not for the retreat.

:x :x :x

row3709.jpg

I somehow expected this to happen, but was too much of a jew to use insane courage, and placed all my hopes on battle fortune, fuck :x

Farewell, dire avenger! You escaped death countless times during the campaign, only to be brought down by my jewishness almost at the very end (casualty #18) :salute:

row3711.jpg

Avatar engages the genestealers.

row3712.jpg

Wraithlord wipes out a carnifex.

row3713.jpg

more adversaries eastwards.

row3714.jpg

We shall have violent retribution for the death of our dire avenger. Friggin biovores have a warp field and refuse to die, obviously.

Also, btw biovores, I noticed that they seem to be somewhat bugged when it comes to lethal ability. It works against some infantry, like SoB or Seraphim, but Wraithguard and assault terminators seem to not suffer kills when facing biovores. Weird.

row3726.jpg

row3727.jpg

Seraphim check the city, but find nothing.

row3728.jpg

row3733.jpg

Holy shit, those warriors really are deadly when well-entrenched. The second dire avenger miraculously evades death.

row3739.jpg

row3740.jpg

Right, there are three enemies with 1 hp, two of which are broken. Still, I am not fucking risking it this time and the dire avenger gets restored to maximum hp.

row3743.jpg

row3744.jpg

The biovores finally die (after being attacked 4 times)

row3745.jpg

Ah, shit. A shame we no longer have any imperial units that can take artefacts, although the power field is sorta... iffy. It provides +4 ranged defence at the expense of -1 movement. It's probably worth assigning to a land raider, or something with similarly huge movement.

row3749.jpg

The friggin genestealers finally die.

row3751.jpg

We can assault the objective now.

row3753.jpg

Wraithlord

row3755.jpg

The southern area of this hill is mostly populated with genestealers and lictors. A perfect hunting ground for our aerial units.

row3759.jpg

During the enemy turn, the zoanthrope uses horror upon the fire prism. The fire prism fails its leadership check and becomes broken...

row3761.jpg

FFFFFFFFFF

Well, fortunately, it ran away after the venom warrior attack. If it didn't, another squad could get into range and blow it to bits.

row3762.jpg

The assault here proceeds as planned.

Let's check what our aerial dudes are up to!

row3763.jpg

WHAT THE FUCK

WHATTHEFUCK WHATTHEFUCK WHATTHEFUCK WHATTHEFUCK?!?!

:rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage:

The swooping hawk dies while assaulting a half-hp biovore division but also takes it with him. How the fuck could this shit happen, don't ask me.

We salute you, Swooping Hawk Exarch, one of our finest and most useful units, killed by a retarded set of circumstances (casualty #19) :salute:

But that is not the end of our problems. As you can see from the last screenshot, the seraphim is down to 9 hp and in the neighbourhood of a land raider. I calculated the distances to get a good spot to retreat, but everywhere south I go, the raider can follow, and that's bad news. The seraphim will have to try retreating to the very heart of the enemy - north - and hope nothing shoots it down.

row3766.jpg

More biovores. That's bad.

row3770.jpg

row3771.jpg

row3773.jpg

The fire dragons are not meant for close combat.

row3776.jpg

That concludes the warriors.

row3777.jpg

I retreated the seraphim south again, to the vicinity of the magi. The magi are usually too dumb to attack, but they did get close to block our squad's resting. We'll try moving even further south to rest properly, hoping the land raider went away... somewhere.

row3778.jpg

And indeed it did! At least we won't lose the seraphim this scenario.

row3779.jpg

The zoanthrope fires a psychic scream at our dudes. This is basically a tyranid version of the librarian's armageddon.

The lower farseer suffers 4 wounds from it, so it can be pretty dangerous.

row3780.jpg

Then the biovores assume firing positions and kill the already wounded farseer...

row3781.jpg

... :|

Well, fortunately it was not the mission-critical farseer, and since we already have two, not much harm done. Still, we salute you, casualty #20 :salute:

row3784.jpg

VENGEANCE!

row3790.jpg

The avatar cuts through the land raider like a knife through butter.

row3792.jpg

Zoanthrope is wiped out.

row3793.jpg

Wait, what?! There were lictors still active in this area? It's a miracle they never stealth captured our dropships.

row3797.jpg

Land Raider is turned into scrap.

row3800.jpg

The magi are nuked, and the death jester investigates the settlement, invoking a powerful explosion, taking it down to 2(!) hp

bernhardt.png
Steadfast, men, it's a trap. The dead grow weary of their tombs.

Fortunately, commander Bernhardt is wrong, and nothing emerges from the city. Just a trap and nothing else.

row3804.jpg

The farseer captures the citadel, and we are victorious!

row3805.jpg

And after that, we are presented a cinematic, narrated by Farseer Badass, who happens to be the best friggin Farseer in the Warhammer 40k universe:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzeY60avRRg

The briefing follows:

row3823.jpg

The Master Tyrant is calling out to the hive fleets. We have to stop it before it is too late. This shall be the last mission, and it shall also be a timed mission for added racism.

row3824.jpg

Inspecting our army, you can see we are short of two squads. Checking the barracks, you can see that we are nearly dried out when it comes to auxiliary troops. I guess I'll take the terminator devastators and the space marines for the last mission, although none of them are really too well suited for it, and you shall see why.

Fuck, losing the Dire Avenger and the Swooping Hawk was actually a tremendous blow. The Avengers form pretty much the very bulk of our army, being able to tackle just about everything you throw at them, while the Hawk had awesome movement, and I had one very specific plan for it in this last scenario, that would make it our ultimate weapon. Guess we'll have to... improvise, then :yeah:

Stay tuned, for next time, we shall end the Tyranid threat on Davinuus once and for all! :M

Mission XXIV - Eye of the Phoenix

Time to end the Tyranid infestation!

row3825.jpg

row3826.jpg

Here's the map

row3828.jpg

And the objective. We have to get here in 20 turns.

As you might have noticed, the map is a volcano, which means constant hills, rough terrain and other cool shit like that. This is why the swooping hawk would be an excellent unit here, and that's why those friggin space marines and terminator devs with 3 formation movement are gonna be useless soon.

This looks like the only point of interest on the map, but the perceptive eye will spot something more...

row3830.jpg

Golden rule of gaming #7: There's always stuff behind the waterfall.

row3832.jpg

The death jester, under the guise of invisibility, will try to investigate the waterfall, as it's the only unit we have left without an artifact.

row3833.jpg

Enemies so far.

row3834.jpg

After the enemy turn ends, and the aliens have made their moves, we are presented with this:

row3835.jpg

Overwhelming odds? Quite so. This will be messy.

row3836.jpg

row3837.jpg

Trying to charge them will most likely be suicide. So we lie in waiting. The death jester spots a genestealer mob on its way. That's not quite good.

row3838.jpg

The squadron of gargoyles all mob the seraphim (and get p. raped)

When moving forward, the genestealers accidentally bump into the death jester...

row3845.jpg

And some lictors follow them soon

row3846.jpg

row3847.jpg

We salute you, Death Jester. You were on a mission to obtain the ultimate artifact, yet nothing could foresee the inevitable (except those damn farseers, but those faggots are useless and prefer to stay silent) :salute:

And this is, actually, the purpose I planned for the fucking swooping hawk. It would take it only like two turns to glide all the way to the waterfall from our dropships. BUT NO, THE FUCKER DECIDED TO DIE.

row3848.jpg

We start the cleansing. Cool thing about terminator devs is that they have rapid fire, just like scatter laser and the like. So they fire two times without moving, and wipe out both the lictors and the gargoyles.

row3855.jpg

I believe it is time to move in.

row3862.jpg

THE TIDE'S COMING

row3868.jpg

Oooooooh shit, the Avenger is broken and runs away.

row3870.jpg

Yes! Battle Fortune smiles upon us once again, and the Avenger runs away again, back to his original place, where he is more or less safe.

row3871.jpg

row3872.jpg

dooooooooooom

row3873.jpg

row3884.jpg

The Avenger needs to be saved, there's no doubt about that.

And that's exactly what happens, as the warriors are no match for the combined might of wraithlord + farseer.

Also, another interesting thing: the wraithguard attack the carnifex. The carnifex takes 7 kills, even though it's supposed to be a single entity. Also, it runs away, even though it has Frenzy, which makes it immune to running away.

Weird *shrug*

row3891.jpg

Right, perhaps this won't be so bad after all.

row3892.jpg

Witness the might of the Avatar!

row3893.jpg

Those silly venom warriors can't even land a scratch on its armour.

row3894.jpg

row3896.jpg

row3897.jpg

WHAT

WHAT

WHAT?!

row3898.jpg

In case this isn't clear enough, we've just failed the mission...

:x :x :x :x :x :x :x

row3899.jpg

But the enemy turn keeps going on...

row3900.jpg

row3901.jpg

Not again...

row3902.jpg

Well, this mutual destruction thing probably happens when both units have the same initiative roll, which means they both attack at the same time.

row3904.jpg

Zing!

Cue failhorn

That... wasn't supposed to end like this. What pisses me off the most, though, is how the fucking avatar takes 0 damage from two friggin venom warriors, and then is taken down in one hit by a fucking genestealer brood. What the fuck?

Anyway, now it's time to decide something. The artifact at the waterfall? It's called the Armour of Gorhu. It's p. much the most powerful artifact in game, which makes the wearer practically immortal - the unit can't drop beneath 1 hp (although I suspect it can still die from a morale failure in a place where it can't run anywhere), at the expense of -2 leadership to the wearer and every adjacent unit. Shall we risk breaking the formation and losing additional units just to get it? If we had the fucking hawk exarch, it would become the ultimate killing machine in this mission, but alas. I even thought about hiring a level 0 swooping hawk in the place of space marines, to quickly fly towards the waterfall and at least become the ultimate tank/scout, but that would be a bit silly.

Voice your concerns! For next time, we shall properly end the Tyranid threat once and for all! M:

Yeah, that artifact sounds worth getting. Hire a new rainbow rider to fetch it :)

You really had to ask, didn't you? Now you must get it.

Mission XXIVb - Ultimate Victory

row3905.jpg

Last time was not quite fortunate for Craftworld Iyanden-Codexia. Perhaps this time, the Avatar of Chris Avellone will be successful in vanquishing the Master Tyrant of hive fleet Bioware and Davinuus will be saved from the dreaded forces of Popamole?

row3906.jpg

First, we shall try to stealth cap the waterfall with a bunch of rookie swooping hawks. This is bound to fail.

row3907.jpg

Advancing...

row3908.jpg

Only lictors try to get our arses, but instead, we nuke theirs.

row3910.jpg

Then the Seraphim attack some gargoyles and we end turn.

row3911.jpg

One of the lictors, as well as the genestealers, fall to our steel wall.

row3919.jpg

OSHIT, THE SWOOPING HAWK'S COVER'S BEEN BLOWN.

Which was to be expected, though, the gargoyles here are a friggin horde, and they happen to have a rather high spotting range.

row3921.jpg

There's no way the hawk can run away to any safety, so might as well attack the genestealers (inflicts 2 wounds, ololo)

row3923.jpg

The vibro cannon is excellent on this map. Thanks to all the rocky terrain, it gets massive +++++ damage, which it uses to blast the lictors away.

row3928.jpg

An executioner drops on the helpless biovores and kills them.

row3929.jpg

Then we crush the closest tyranids.

row3935.jpg

On this side of the front, it's rather peaceful...

row3936.jpg

But the western side spells rape!

row3940.jpg

First, the swooping hawks get swarmed

row3941.jpg

row3942.jpg

row3943.jpg

Aaaaand this concludes the swooping hawks. It was a p. dum idea to take them, but whatev. It was worth a shot, and at least they managed to meatshield a bit and take some gargoyles off our backs, so :salute: casualty #21

row3945.jpg

Then the fire prism is swarmed by gargoyles and lictors.

row3947.jpg

And genestealers finish the deed...

row3948.jpg

:salute: casualty #22, your sacrifice was not in vain.

After that, more genestealers rush the farseer, but he's a bro and survives with no problems.

row3950.jpg

We are getting severely overwhelmed yet again.

row3951.jpg

row3961.jpg

The enemies around the farseer are all down, so he can rest to full strength.

row3968.jpg

The two offscreen arrows are obviously more gargoyles.

row3969.jpg

The tyranid are an endless tide. The wraithguard gets some really neat initiative rolls and kicks the shit out of the incoming genestealers and carnifex, whil losing only 6 wounds.

row3983.jpg

Meanwhile, the terminators are overrun by the enemy's sheer numbers, and have to fall before the carnifex after a valiant defence

row3984.jpg

Farewell, casualty #23 :salute:

row3986.jpg

We still have 15 turns to complete the mission. Not too shabby.

row3987.jpg

row3995.jpg

The SoB squad and vibro cannon stay at our dropships. With all those gargoyles around, it's better not to leave them unattended.

row4002.jpg

The seraphim get bumrushed yet again, but they persevere. Seraphim sure are tough bastards.

row4003.jpg

row4014.jpg

Mopping up. All enemies featured on this screen are dead. We finally managed to break through the swarm that was so desperately trying to stop us!

row4023.jpg

We also mop up here.

row4031.jpg

The remaining aliens are pretty much nothing but single stragglers.

row4036.jpg

row4045.jpg

row4053.jpg

:yeah:

We are free to proceed to the volcano and carry out what has to be done.

row4054.jpg

row4055.jpg

And we still have 12 turns left.

row4056.jpg

row4058.jpg

row4059.jpg

In theory, I could still take the death jester to the waterfall to grab the armour of Gorhu, but why bother.

row4063.jpg

Wraithlord

Wraithlord are fucking awesome at maximum level. A shame you get them so late in the game.

row4064.jpg

Damn biovores show yet again that they are not to be underestimated...

row4066.jpg

row4067.jpg

Trololo

row4069.jpg

row4070.jpg

Harlequin scouts ahead and finds the very last hive-citadel of the swarm.

And in the middle of it...

row4071.jpg

The wretched Master Tyrant.

row4072.jpg

Stat and psyker power wise, the Master Tyrant is identical to the Hive Tyrant. It just has this funky little ability you see on this screen.

row4073.jpg

This filth can only be slain by the Bloody Hand itself.

row4074.jpg

After scouting, the Harlequin then finishes what the Wraithlord started.

row4075.jpg

We shall take the Tyranid hive into lovely pincers and crush them from two sides.

row4076.jpg

row4077.jpg

And we still have plenty of time to do so.

row4080.jpg

Warriors are pushed out of our way.

row4081.jpg

Then biowhores appear and shoot the seraphim.

row4082.jpg

Who now have 8 dead and need to fall back. They are the second oldest Imperial unit in our army (next to the Sisters of Battle (and space marines, but they are sitting in barracks being useless)) and I don't wanna lose them out of sentimental reasons +M

row4084.jpg

row4089.jpg

We remove the venom warriors.

Now the avatar shall smite down the tyrant!

row4090.jpg

... or he won't.

row4091.jpg

Yeah, I'm not risking it. I haven't gone all the way to this place just to lose the fucking avatar NOW to some goddamn BIOVORES.

row4092.jpg

some of our other units are sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooow, and run around the countryside looking for leftovers.

row4093.jpg

The death jester gets heavily wounded.

row4094.jpg

row4096.jpg

Well, fuck. The Avenger is at 1 hp, next to a zoanthrope, master tyrant and biovores, and I can do nothing about it. Only a miracle can happen now.

row4098.jpg

The avatar and the terminators try to reach the bio-artillery, but they can only smack the tyrant around a bit.

row4101.jpg

And a miracle actually does happen... The zoanthrope casts horror upon the death jester, the tyrant uses catalyst, and battle fortune saves the Dire Avenger from the Biovores. Yet again, battle fortune saves the Avenger's life. Best ability ever :salute:

row4102.jpg

lol carnifex.

row4103.jpg

row4104.jpg

First we knock out the zoanthrope.

row4106.jpg

Then wraithguard and great harlequin mow down the biovores.

row4107.jpg

And finally, the Avatar slays the Master Tyrant.

row4108.jpg

And we are victorious!

Afterwards, we are rewarded with an EPIC!!11 outro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufsfnaw7TV8

Final Eldar bodycount: 23.

Final enemy bodycount: 9834769837496873496

I name this campaign a great success!

Thanks for reading +M
