The tutorial is officially over and we finally get to control our hero... somewhat...
There's a lot of stuff to get through today, luckily there's not much dialogue so I should be able to compile ti quite quickly.
Too much stuff happened yesterday. I hope she's back to her usual self...
Oh, yep. I was out cold until this morning.
Um... Thanks for everything yesterday.
It's kinda embarrassing, ya know?
You two were right there to see my hidden feelings and all...
Don't sweat it.
The same thing happened to Yosuke, right?
Soooo... what was it like?
Huh? Uhhh, how should I put this...
> He looks towards me.
Oh, I nearly forget! None of that happened when yours awakened, huh?
Hmmm, could it be because you've got nothing to hide?
Oh? So nothing happened for you?
I gotta agree that you seem like a pretty open guy. There's a funny air about you...
I checked the current poll results before I did this...
She blushed
Whoa... Maybe you are my type.
Gimme a break...
> Hearty laughter is had.
Anyways, what's msot important right now is to rescue Yukiko.
I'm dead set on coming. Remember... You promised.
> The school bell rings and realisation dawns on Yosuke's face.
Oh crap, I still haven't gone to the bathroom!
> He runs off, leaving me and Chie...
Uh... Hey, um...
Th-Thanks for saving me...
Yosuke's cool and all, but...
There really is something different about you. I feel like you won't let me down...
We establish the Chariot Social Link and Chie gains the first of her battle power ups.
I love not having the courage of a common fly... The last few options I chose aren't available until your second playthrough due to courage requirements.
Wha...? Oh... right. You'll need this from now on, huh? Okay, then.
Feel free to call whenever...
> Numbers are exchanged.
We have to be careful of the fog that sets in after the rain, right? Let's save her before that happens!
Today we are introduced to the most normal of the teachers at Yasogami High.
<Mr. Kondo> My name is Mr. Kondo, your P.E. teacher!
<Mr. Kondo> But since nobody at this school teaches English, I'll be doubling up my roles!
<Mr. Kondo> ...Don't be so disappointed. In fact I've spent some time overseas!
<Mr. Kondo> One week of vacation time, to be exact!
<Mr. Kondo> But that's more than enough to teach a class! Hahaha!
<Mr. Kondo> We'll start with the basics of the basics: definite articles versus indefinite articles!
<Mr. Kondo> A definite article is used before a singular or plural noun that refers to a particular member of a group.
<Mr. Kondo> In any other instance, use an indefinite article! Ya got that!?
<Mr. Kondo> I'll pick someone at random... Hirato! This is a "definite" give-away! Hahaha!
Pay attention, this stuff will appear in the exam!
<Mr. Kondo> Goooood job! You're correct.
<Mr. Kondo> Native speakers distinguish between the two unconsciously, but you guys aren't them! So study hard, okay!?
<Mr. Kondo> Now! Repeat after me!
<Mr. Kondo> "The" is a definite article! "A" is an indefinite article!
<Mr. Kondo> I can't heaaaar youuuuu! Don't be sky! Let's practice together, loud and proud!
Huzzah, to the right you can see the save point.
Since we're in control (at last).... kinda... Let me give you a quick tour of the school.
Chie and Yosuke are in here, but they just want to go rescue Yukiko today. We'll get to that in a moment.
The quick travel options...
The 2nd year hallway. Down the hall you can find the Calligraphy Room, the Student Council Room and the Library. The latter of which is the only one we ever get to enter.
Behind me is one of 3 stair wells. This one travels between the first and third floor.
Across is a pathway to the auxiliary practice building.
This is the third floor, where the 3rd years lurk about.
Up here we can find the Announcement Room, the Computer Lab and the A/V Room (that's Audio/Visual, not Adult Video).
First, let's entertain Riddle-senpai for a bit, so you guys can get a taste of the game's quests...
Or maybe I just want you all to suffer though the dialogue...
<Funky student> I don't know you, and you're coming up, so it's a 50-50 that you're a second-year! Deductive reasoning like whoa, son!
<Funky student> Now I, the OG third-year, will challenge you, the second-year youngblood, with a riddle!
<Funky student> And no, it isn't because I'm trying to avoid studying for entrance exams! I'm just doing you a favour here, man!
I assume OG == Old Guard
> Accepted Quest 23: "Whos the Riddle Master!?"
<Funky student> Looks like your spirit is willing. Let's see if your mind can vibe to this...! Riddle time!
<Funky student> I'ma drop some stuff into two distinct categories.
<Funky student> At the end you gotta drop the last item onto the proper category. Can you dig it!?
<Funky student> Red's group A.
<Funky student> Grey's group B.
<Funky student> White's puttin' it down for group A.
<Funky student> Orange has a group B tattoo.
<Funky student> Green's A for sheezy.
<Funky student> Pink is group B times infinity.
<Funky student> Yay ya-y! Your mind is beautiful thing and you are not letting it go to waste, yo! Way to be!
<Funky student> Since you're down with the vexillology, you knew that group A was four of the six most prevalent world flag colours.
<Funky student> The other two to round out the top six are blue and yellow.
<Funky student> I must say that I wasn't expecting a second-year to have such trenchant insight.
<Funky student> But you have passed, and now I dub you my riddle brother. Here's a little sumthin' sumthin'!
> Received 3x Chest Key
> Completed Quest 23: "Who's the Riddle Master!?"
That was just painful... and yes, that really was one of the game's quests.
The school rooftops, you can find a wannabe meteorologist here who can give you the forecast.
Chie often sits out here.
The school entrance, as well as the first year's hall.
We can occasionally pick things up from our locker (what can I say, I'm a lady's man
)
Down the hall you can find the Nurse, Faculty and Councilor offices.
At the end of the first floor, you can find the exit to the soccer pitch and gym. To the left is another exit to the practice building.
In the practice building we can find the Music Room, the Storage Room, the Sewing Room, the Home Ec. Room, the Science Lab, the Meeting Room (drama club), the Biology Lab, the Art Room, the English Classroom, The workshop and the Sociology Classroom. We won't enter most of these places, ever.
The overworld map. The colours and art here vary on the weather and time of day. We head to Daidara's to sell of our crap.
To my surprise, we actually had enough junk for him to make a new item. It's not useful to us though.
I also buy Chie some new boots and head out...
Save point and an entrance to the Velvet room let's go say hi.
The Persona compendium. I have half a mind to check some of them out...
But I'll refrain, the dungeon are boring enough without removing all challenge...
As for Fusions, there's this colourful little menu.
The forecast should be pretty self-explanatory. Basically some days are better suited to fusing new Personas than other. The effects vary from day to day.
The fusion menu itself is pretty simple. Unfortunately our level's too low to make any of the more useful ones. All of those should already be in my compendium regardless.
So let's get going!
Before we can enter, Teddie sees fit to give this item to us. It's effect varies a bit, but usually it takes us to this "entrance" area.
Unfortunately we have to start from Level 1 again...
This dialogue introduces the minimap, and the fact that the dungeons are randomly generated.
There's nothing else worth noting...
An enemy... I got caught off-guard. It just goes to demonstrate that the monsters play by the same rules as you.
Easily disposed off. I forgot to set Chie's tactics mode before combat, so you can see the menu in action here.
We also encounter this fellow... We just rush him, he never stood a chance.
Another easy fight. We get the Angel Persona for our trouble.
Angel's a pretty alright persona. It's just that a high fire resistance is better suited to this dungeon.
We've explored this level, onto the second!
Kuma introduces the idea of bigger shadows (in and out of combat) being more dangerous. Nothing I didn't already tell you.
Yukiko... what's wrong?
*chuckle* Heehee... Ahahahahahaha!
Oh my! Special guests? I wonder how they'll play into all this!
*chuckle* Thigns are really heating up!
Okie-dokie! I'm going back to the hunt for my Prince Charming! Ohhh, where could he be...?
This place is huge! It's sooo exciting, but it makes it so hard to find him!
Ooh! Maybe he's playing hide-and-seek in the fog! Ready or not, here I come!
Let's go further in then, shall we!?
Wh-What the hell is this!?
You're... You're not Yukiko... Who are you!?
*chuckle* What're you talking about? I'm Yukiko... and Yukiko is me.
No! Don't tell me, are you--!?
Where's the real Yukiko!?
> A chorus of voices echoes through the halls
What's with these voices...!?
The Shadows are getting agitated!
Well, I'm off again!
Heehee! You'd better be waiting with bells on, my dear Prince!
Hey, wait!
That clearly wasn't the real Yukiko. It had to be..
I think it was. It must have been the other part of herself.
So it's just like what happened to us...
But I don't think she was excited for nothing.
The real Yukiko wants to show us something. I can feel it.
It's hard to explain... It seems like she has a strong connection to this castle.
This is a lot more dangerous than I thought!
Yukiko...!
> Chie runs off...
Hey... Not again! Dammit, we told her not to run off on her own!
And so we move onto the third floor...
That's all there was to the second.
<Yukiko's voice> *chuckle* Teeheehee...
<Yukiko's voice> My Prince will soon come for me.
<Yukiko's voice> I'll always be waiting...
<Yukiko's voice> Forever and ever...
*groan*
We already knew this too...
We encounter two magical hands. They're not very strong and they have a penchant for casting agi. we just rush them.
They're weak to Ice though.
A bird triplet. These guys uses Tarukaja to boost their attack effectiveness before striking.
The buff lasts 3 turns.
They do some mean damage. I use pulimpa to confuse one of them and then we attack the two on the sides. Confused enemies may throw money about, attack their allies or do nothing.
We need to heal a bit too from time to time... It's best to use medicine in the early game. SP is on a very limited supply.
Chie and Yosuke's Personas level up.
Tomoe learns Bufu which is the basic ice attack.
We encounter a few more. I somehow managed two criticals in a row, the animations are kind of neat.
We found the stairs, but there's still more of the level to explore.
More of those birds...
The weakness probe failed spectacularly.
While they do take reduced damage from physical attacks, just rush them, they'll die quick enough.
Pulinpa is now more likely to succeed.
We found a T section with two chests at the ends. Was a rather uneventful combat event that gave us another card...
We also see our first big chest...
They tend to exclusively contain equipment...
I equip the obtained item on Chie right away, as she's weak to fire. The item triples evasion chances against fire attacks if I'm not mistaken..
We make it to the 4th Level
<Yukiko's voice> Thank you for coming to the Amagi Inn today.
<Yukiko's voice> Your room is right this way.
<Yukiko's voice> If we can help you in any way, please let us know immediately.
...What's this voice talking about?
This place isn't an inn. It's totally a castle!
A presence so terrifying, the game even asks twice if I want to open it.
Don't ever do this in your playthroughs folks, you'll get fucked up so badly.
This is mainly demonstrational.
He opens up with mind charge
Yosuke strikes him for a pitiful 5 points of damage, as does Chie.
He has over 999 HP
He finished off Yosuke with Mudoon, and I opt to Escape...
He finishes off Chie as well... but with Poison Skewer...
With no chance to Escape, I remember I had a Vanish Ball, so we use it to escape.
We won't have any of this Save State exploiting rubbish in this LP!
This fellow is a positive king. He's weak to fire.
He is also resistant to physical attacks, but what makes him a real pain is his attach pattern...
He summons "Secret Bambinos" until there are 5 creatures on the field.
It's not that big a problem, but these guys hit HARD.
I spy with my little eye, a powerful enemy.
As Previously mentioned, Shadows can be discoloured red or yellow.
Red are strong and powerful and the Yellow are rare Shadows. The rare type drop chest keys.
Almost had be excited for a moment...
You should be careful with these cubes though. If their health is low when it gets to their turn, they self-terminate.
This typically means they explode and deal a lot of damage everything.
More birds...
We encounter another Positive King...
I forgot he was weak to fire...
So I tried to confuse him so he wouldn't summon allies...
I spent a moment to heal up...
You should use SP restoration items more sparingly than I.
They're not sold at Shiroku and the only ones we can buy come from 5SP a can vending machines...
The process is far too tedious to rack up a suitable amount of items.
More enemies... We make short work of them
But they have allies nearby.
The game merges the encounters in such cases, quite a nifty feature in my opinion.
We get an Ice Cube from a nearby chest.
We arrive at the 5th floor...
I can sense her!
She must be on this floor!
<Yukiko's voice> Wow! By any chance, are you...
<Yukiko's voice> My Princes?
<Yukiko's voice> I'm locked up here... Please save me!
<Yukiko's voice> Hmhmhm... I'm sure my princes can do it...
<Yukiko's voice> I'm sure they'll brave any danger to release me from this place...
<Yukiko's voice> I'll be waiting for you...
<Yukiko's voice> Ohoho...
This seems very strange...
Be careful.
We move onward when suddenly! We get teleported!
We proceed to move towards the door in front of us...
And it happened again!
This is our first dungeon floor with an associated gimmick.
Basically, to move around the teleporting hotspots, you basically need to move backwards.
For now, this brings us to the topmost door.
It's locked.
As I previously explained they can be unlocked by defeating bosses or by exploring further. The former is the method employed for this level, so let's go find him!
But first we encounter 5 magical hands... I let Chie knock them over...
My Prince wouldn't lose to guards such as this, correct?
Gyaaaaaah! I've never seen such a strong one before!
I-It's attacking us!
And was this Boss a bitch...
The generally recommended delving strategy is to get to the Level with the next Boss and then leave, to return another day.
On your next visit, you beat the boss and move onto the floor where the next Boss is, and then you come back to beat that one on another day.
Naturally I don't do this, I'd prefer to just get it out of the way so I can continue with the Social Sim portion of the game
He opens up with Poison Skewer and nearly kills me...
I counter with Sukunda...
And Chie establishes that he is resistant to Physical attacks..
He takes full damage from magical attacks though, which is what we'll be using for the remainder of the battle.
After I revive Yosuke....
And Chie...
I might've neglected to mention this...
But if you miss an attack, there's a chance you might get knocked down... The knight wasn't knocked down though...
The effects of Sukunda expired... reapplying it didn't help Chie dodge the attack though.
Somewhere inbetween, Chie sustained a "Mortal Blow" for me.
She delivered the finishing blow...
<Yukiko's voice> *chuckle*
<Yukiko's voice> If you really are my Prince, then we will surely meet again.
<Yukiko's voice> I am but a trapped soul... I cannot leave this place even if I wished...
<Yukiko's voice> *chuckle*
<Yukiko's voice> ......
Quit your whining... I'll heal you...
We used the Glass Key to open this door...
I used a Snuff Soul on Chie... I no longer have any SP restoratives left.
Nice!
Standard operating procedure...
There was a second mob nearby, we just rush him.
Chie learns Skull Cracker.
It's like Skewer but it can inflict confusion on the enemy.
Can be quite useful.
We also find some better armour in the chest
We make it to level 6...
<Reporter's voice> Now that has a nice ring to it...
<Reporter's voice> Let's see if we can interview her. Excuse me!
<Yukiko's voice> Shut up!
<Reporter's voice> Someday, though... That aside, wow! You're looking gorgeous in that kimono.
<Reporter's voice> You must have a lot of male visitors
<Yukiko's voice> Leave me alone!
<Yukiko's voice> I'm sick of everything!
<Yukiko's voice> I'm sick of it...
<Yukiko's voice> ......
These guys have a bunch of ma- elemental skills..
You should probably aim to kill them or confuse/silence them as soon as possible.
A shadow that big? You had me worried for a second...
He's resistant to physical attacks and he absorbs or reflects most magic attacks.
He doesn't have much health, so just rush him, he'll be dead before he gets a turn.
Ah yes, beetles.
You do NOT want to use physical attacks against there dudes, they'll send it right back...
They're weak to ice, so naturally...
Fun fact, Forneus is one of the first bosses in SMT:Nocturne...
A table. From memory they're weak to wind and Yosuke proves that true.
They're immune to physical attacks though and some of the later variants even repel them!
We encounter another Red Shadow and we manage to get an advantage.
I probably should've just ran...
Like the boss, these guys hit hard and are resistant to physical attacks.
The first is destroyed before they even get a turn.
I attempt to confuse the other one with skull crusher, but without success...
He then misses and falls over, naturally we do a pile up.
It doesn't kill him, but Yosuke finishes him off with a well placed Garu.
Two birds and a mysterious mage of sorts...
The mage attacks with "Evil Touch", which can inflict fear.
While under the effects of fear, it can paralyse you in battle or make some of your party members run away,
Naturally he misses
Right behind you Teddie....
We move onto Level 7...
I honestly thought this was the level with the last Boss... I was wrong!
<Yukiko's voice> My dear Prince... Please hurry and take me away!
<Yukiko's voice> Somewhere...
<Yukiko's voice> To a world where no one knows me...
<Yukiko's voice> ......
We honestly don't have enough resources to fight much more, so we cleverly avoid the Shadows (we actually didn't encounter any), while leaving a lot of loot behind too.
And so we make it to the last floor...
We'll be able to re-enter here, so it's a good place to stop for today, and I don't even need to use a GoHo-M to get out!
But first I go back for some loot - I give it to Yosuke to wear.
We'll save Yukiko tomorrow. I've used up a lot of my restorative items and i need to restock.
We're not given the option to eat it... We will be in the future.
We can also interact with the table (work and assemble models - we have neither), the sofa (read books - we have none of these either), and the study desk (I already maximised my knowledge), so there's naught to do but sleep...
Luckily I had a dream tonight...
> You dreamed that you were comforting a crying Yosuke.
> Your relationship with Yosuke has intensified...
No homo
And that's all for this screenshot heavy update.
See you all on the next update, next page.
