I'm going to use all of you as meatshields for the glory of Mother Russia!

Introduction video

All characters on Soviet side, which I'm going to play as, will have names of top 150 Codex users in terms of post count plus all other volunteering users.

I shall play a grand campaign. Let's see if any of you would actually live long enough to see the end of the war. :smug: Because Kingcomrade has the highest post count, he will be a commander of the company, starting at the rank of Master Sergeant. Others will be assigned to their units in random manner.

Update will follow shortly, I'm going to use this first post for maintaining statistics.

Bros, I'm afraid I'm going to have to replay our first battle. Too bad, you did a great job (Burning Bridges knocked out a tank with anti-tank rifle and Andyman Messiah with Flying Spaghetti Monster alone slaughtered one assaulting German squad). Fraps doesn't work with the game and I had to use some other program in which I overdone the quality settings, making most of the screenshots weight about 1 MB. :(

Can I be part of an AT crew? (confidant in post count)

Yeah, I saw your name on the list, you certainly are a soldier in the game. Everyone with more than ~2000 posts is. But I don't know in which unit will you be assigned to because it's random.

Can I get a KV tank? Can I???? :bounce:

Ok Sir, I'll add you to the list as the game did begin yet after all. Where will you end up does not depend on me.

Also, it would be nice if we got this thread to the next page. I will keep here personal files of all our soldiers so I think it would be convenient if we didn't have to load the same images from the first update all the time.

I've "Veteran" difficulty setting. But don't worry, it's not a popamole game. There are some battles which you are doomed to fail and others are kid's play, to reflect historical imbalances during the war.

Tanks, mortars, mg's and AT. Win guaranteed.

To raise the difficulty even higher I would have to actually reduce realism levels for AI, which is a bit too XTREME for me. But don't worry, it's not a popamole game. There are some battles which you are doomed to fail and others are kid's play, to reflect historical imbalances during the war.

I know. Been playing the CC games since the very first one. Trust me, you can win any and all battles with the right force composition because the AI is generally a very predictable beast. If you want a real challenge go to difficulty and turn the slider up to hero. The AI won't get the reduced realism levels but they will get better reinforcements while your pool will be severely reduced. It actually can make the game challenging.

Anyway, have fun. Trash signing up to die a horrid death for the motherland!

Try keeping as many Codexers alive as possible. Can you get reinforcement Codexers too when earlier ones fall?

Yes, I can get Codex reinforcements. There is one problem though. Only thing I can influence is the list of names, and they can repeat themselves, so we might even have some ressurected/undead codexians.

I've replayed the first battle. Unfortunately, it went much worse than the first time.

A good LP is made through the blood, sweat and tears of those who make it. There is nothing more entertaining than a rotten bloody uphill struggle. Go git 'em!

Greetings Bros! Germany invaded our Motherland, unfortunately the forces at our disposal are very weak. We currently have one poor medium infantry squad, one sniper, one commander section and Cossack AT rifle section. We shall see what can be done.

Our battlefield and deployment areas.

The Cossacks - Multiheaded Cow and Twinfalls, will ambush enemy tanks moving along the road.

The sniper, Hory, will try to hold the bridge.

The infantry squad will sit in the trenches, covering the northern approach.

Kingcomrade, and his second in command, Cloaked Figure, will be sitting in the trench together with infantry to boost their poor morale.

The battle begins. After minutes of silence, enemy squad finally appears on sight.

Soon after, another squads follow. The Germans have two MG teams. We're in serious trouble.

Cossacks could fire on one of MG teams, but they lack necessary firepower and would give out their positions too easily.

Then, Stug 3G assault gun appears. Its front armor is too strong for PTRD AT rifle. Our only hope is to fire on its rear or sides.

Meanwhile, Nazi infantry advances. Fortunately, they didn't spot our Cossacks.

The Stug is very close with no infantry support. Now's our chance!

Twinfalls fires. Unfortunately, the bullet did not penetrate the hull.

Germans shout in terror "Sniper!" as one of their comrades was shot from unknown direction. Good job, Hory!

While Twinfalls tries to take the Stug down, Multi-headed Cow notices the MG squad coming from behind. Oh ****!

Xi from infantry squad also tries to snipe the Stug with his PTRD.

Multi-headed Cow throws in an act of desperation a grenade at the MG Squad, killing two of the enemy soldiers.

Yeah, take that, bastards!

But then, Stug fires. The building partially collapses and our brave soldiers are stunned.

Meanwhile, Hory still keeps the Germans from entering the bridge.

Both of our Cossacks are killed in uneven battle. :salute:

Stug starts firing on infantry squad, killing Admiral Rimjob POOBUM. We're doomed.

Run for your lives!

Hory retreats either. Holding the Germans off now is pointless.

Holy ****, the Stug is chasing us!

Run for the hills!

Well, we've lost 3 men that were killed, while Germans only 3 wounded guys.

The only soldiers that scored some kills today were our dead Cossacks and the sniper.

But everyone that survived levelled up :smug:.

Insert clever insult here
Wait, is this the classic Close Combat 3? Or some newfangled remake/restoration? I remember that the original CC3 was shitty when compared to CC1, CC2 or CC4 - but maybe it was just the disjointed battles that didn't make any sense and the over-emphasis on tanks which got on my nerves.

In any case, eagerly awaiting my tank platoon commission :salute:

Which Close Combat is the best I have 1-5 but have only played number 5 and I think either 3 or 4 when I was younger. Should I start with the first one? What about the remakes from Matrix Games? Any recommended mods for the 5th one?
