I'm pretty excited about this game, it looks like it's basically Dragon's Crown set in the Little Witch Academia universe. Which should be a fairly awesome combination.

Hopefully, it has more areas to play through than Dragon's Crown does. That game's biggest weakness was its repetitiveness.

But unfortunately a Bandai Namco anime game, which in many cases is a budget game targeting tbe original fans.

I don't know, they wanted to make a big multimedia franchise out of this but the anime bombed hard.

So maybe this game is actually decent but sure they don't give a shit about it now.

ahh dragon's crown. Good game but like 2-3 hours long (if you don't count completely needless endless dungeons that repeat same few maps and bosses)

still...

It takes a lot longer than 2-3 hours to unlock the B routes, let alone finish the game.

I think his point, though (which I agree with), is that you do the same maps over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over in Dragon's Crown.

Which gets really tedious.

Well, yeah. I wish it was 2-3 hours long since that's the optimal length for a beat em' up. Instead it gets stretched thin with all the forced side quests since they tied 70% of character progression in completing those, and you'll have to do them again each time with new characters.

Beat'em'ups and "character progression" don't really go well together - the only games I can think of where it works is Capcom's D&D series, but mostly because 'progression' is tied to the (linear) levels and occurs at a fixed rate. The drops are very specific and there's no farming to speak of, which is a good thing.

Being able to buy things from shops between levels is also fine (something that dates back way further, for instance in Forgotten Worlds which wasn't really a beat'em'up but it's the same logic).

Trying to shoehorn progression elements into these sorts of games always dilutes the experience. I thought Dragon's Crown was a big waste of potential for this very reason.

Nope, they're skippable after you've done them once. I think it costs a bit of gold or something, but a trivial amount.

Now, having to do all the bullshit storyline/tutorial crap on extra accounts OTOH, is infuriating if you're trying to get someone new to play the game with you on their own profile.
