EA Teases Unannounced Games, New Battlefield in FY 2022, Next-Gen, New Projects at BioWare & More

Today, during Electronic Arts’ quarterly conference call for investors and analysts, chief executive officer Andrew Wilson talked about the future of the publisher and the next generation of consoles.

Wilson mentioned that next year will bring a “full slate of new EA Sports experiences” with new titles that will be added to the EA Sports portfolio.

He also added that new consoles are “always an opportunity to drive innocation in EA Sports games.”

This will include the plans for NBA Live wih “great support for the NBA and the NBA Players’ Association.” The company is working with an innovative new direction timed with the All-Stars Weekend, and it’s “an experience designed around new ways to engage, connect, and create true basketball.”

According to Wilson now that the company has a greater understanding of the new platforms and what they can power, bringing social connection and accessibility to the forefront, they believe they can go “so much further with the new design.”

Due to that, EA decided not to ship an NBA Live game in fiscal year 2020, and instead they’re “expanding their vision for NBA Live” with this new project that they’ll be sharing more details on nextyear.

Wilson continued mentioning that the Apex Legends team is being expanded to deliver the content plans for fiscal year 2021 (which is related to the period between April 2020 and March 2021).

The Sims 4 will also get new expansions and new way to engage and grow the community.

FY 2021 will bring new content and new ways to play Battlefield V, while the next Battlefield game will be released in fiscal year 2022 (between April 2021 and March 2022), featuring new innovations enabled by next-gen consoles and their growing installed base.

Next year (fiscal year 2021) will also bring unannounced “new titles and new IP” for multiple platforms.

Chief operating and financial officer Blake Jorgensen also talked about the future, teasing that Apex Legends will launch on “new platforms, geographies, and on mobile.”

He then added that in fiscal year 2021 Electronic Arts will add “at least one more sports title to the annual slate,” launch a Medal of Honor VR title, and deliver some “exciting remasters” of fan favorites including that of Command & Conquer. They also have two unannounced EA Partners games from third-party developers. On top of that, there are other unannounced titles in the pipeline for FY2021, and specifics will be given down the line.

Wilson concluded the prepared remarks mentioning that there is a new IP in the works at Motive and new projects at DICE, Bioware, Maxis, and Criterion.

Speaking of:

deliver some “exciting remasters” of fan favorites

For some reason EA applied trademark of "Westwood Studios": https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/trademarks/018128392

And... the (good) old EA logo: https://euipo.europa.eu/eSearch/#details/trademarks/018128391

Are they going to launch remastering label or what?

Ultima remaster trilogies coming?

:troll:

Well tbh I probably would take them if they commission Krome Studios to do that.

Origin is no more, now it's EA desktop app. https://venturebeat.com/2020/09/14/...es-down-on-ea-play-brand-with-ea-desktop-app/

Electronic Arts is launching a new EA Desktop app, a beta version of its revamped Origin online gaming service that EA calls a next-generation PC gaming platform. But it’s one more app among many in the subscription-loving video game business today.

EA says the service will have faster downloads and updates, simpler access to games, and the ability to connect with friends across platforms. Gamers will use the EA Desktop app to access subscriptions such as the newly renamed EA Play ($5 a month) and EA Play Pro ($15 a month).

It’s another example of how EA is getting rid of some older brands like Origin and rallying around its own abbreviated name and the gamer-focused EA Play brand. On August 14, EA said it would rebrand its EA Access and Origin Access subscription game services under the EA Play brand name. That happened the same week that Amazon rebranded its Twitch Prime membership service as Prime Gaming, with the goal of reaching a broader audience.

“The EA Desktop app is being designed to deliver a frictionless and socially connected experience that is faster for players to get into their games,” EA senior vice president Michael Blank said in an interview with GamesBeat. “We have revealed some of this, but we haven’t revealed all of it.”

The new app promises a faster experience, fewer clicks to jump back into your favorite games, and Playtime Controls to help you keep tabs on how much time you and your family spend playing. You should find it easier to find and install new games or just play via your EA Play membership, Blank said.

EA is also rolling out new benefits for EA Play and EA Play Pro subscription members. Anyone can register for the beta, and EA is sending out download invitations on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re an Origin player, your games, progress, and friends will carry over. You’ll keep full access to all of your Origin content.

It'll be interesting a decade or two from now, when subs have taken over the market, how they will handle providing me the games I "own." It's not like Netflix where they never offered purchases at all, they're chained to that sales model forever presumably, on some level.

EA did something good for once and removed Bioware
points
every DLC is free

https://www.pcgamer.com/ea-kills-off-bioware-points-making-old-mass-effect-and-dragon-age-dlc-free/

Some of the add-ons for classic BioWare RPGs that could previously only be bought with BioWare points are now available for free. You can log into Origin and grab DLC for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 by selecting the games in your library, clicking on Extra Content, then selecting Get it Free for each one.

While Mass Effect Legendary Edition has all the singleplayer DLC bundled with it, if you own the original versions of Mass Effect 2 and 3 you can now grab essential expansions Lair of the Shadow Broker and Citadel for zero dollars, as well as the rest. For a guide on how to start them, here's Which Mass Effect DLC is best and what order to play them in.

Mass Effect 3's multiplayer DLC packs aren't free, however. For the next three months, you can use up any leftover BioWare Points you may have on them. After October 11, they'll only be available in return for credits you earn in-game. (Or by downloading a money hack, you cheeky devil.)

The email ends by noting, "Don't worry — you'll still have access to any content previously purchased using BioWare Points. We're here to support you if you have any questions on this, just reach out to EA Help."

Fifa wanted to charge double for the value of the brand itself (which is reduced to having the FIFA name, more or less) and EA told them to fuck off. You can make individual deals with leagues or teams. That's why the mexican and japanese leagues were removed from 23, because they made a deal with Konami instead.
So it's more of a retardation moment from Fifa, but that's to be expected.
