That was because he is going to play the nostalga card (and it worked for Obsidian and inXile).

On the one hand square worlds are really, really annoying -- definitely offends my inner (heck, outer) geography nerd. On the other hand, a) old school and b) less boring ocean, more packed land.

Fuck. This is going to disappoint, isn't it? I can already envision the video. Just him talking about old-school Ultima.
Despite being a millionaire it'll definitely fall short of that Torment video, with edgy Colin McComb street magician-esque presentation on a black background to stock production music.

Also, if this is actually going to be a single player RPG in the spirit of the Ultimas... something has to happen with some other developer that is absolute fucking decline, just to balance out all the incline.
:bro:

Yeah I've noticed that for every promising new indie/Kickstarted title in the works, some AAA developer is out there ringing the death knell for another series. Maybe Ultima Forever is supposed to cancel it out?

The pitch is more substantial than just about any of the high profile pitches I've seen so far so he gets props for that.

Seems he's going for the UO crowd rather than the singleplayer Ultima crowd, and that crowd is probably pretty big, so he might actually succeed

Obviously it's not this oldschool RPG stuff that people here would have hoped for but he might just be able to call upon oldschool MMORPG features

Codex 2012 Serpent in the Staglands Dead State Divinity: Original Sin Project: Eternity Torment: Tides of Numenera Wasteland 2 A Beautifully Desolate Campaign Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
A lot of the rest of it appeals straight to old-school fans, though. It's not a bad pitch! Well-constructed, at least. You think he could put up a little of his own money, tho', but whatever. But yeah...PvP, persistent online world? Also is it just me or does he say nothing about the combat system, like, even less than we did with Torment?

The Lord British Presents page is a little embarrassing, they just keep going "wow LB you're so awesome how are you so awesome?!"
They do not much else to sell but him.

In the livestream he said that the game's designed foremost as a single player Ultima experience, but has additional stuff if you're online.

One would think Richard would fucking get it. What are the biggest KS launched? Old School SINGLE PLAYER games.

And the Ultima's were always about a Personal Journey. MY FUCKING Journey. Not me and 10,000 other people playing the same shit content.

Good luck but I am not paying one fucking cent on this decline crap.

The worst part is that it'll still probably get sufficient funding from the Ultima Online crowd, so he has no reason to step back and consider even for a moment the possibility that he doesn't get what oldschool RPGs are about.
