In b4 Felicia Day as Lady British

:troll:

I'm surprised EA didn't hire her for something like that for their game, to be honest. She's already done work for Bioware, after all.

Actually, maybe they have and we don't know about it yet.

If the graphic style is any indication Facebook game incoming.

The graphic style is likely not any kind of indication, because the graphic style of the map is straight out of the early Ultimas, not facebook.

A map puzzle is retarded though, since it's a new world and IP that nobody knows. There's nothing to figure out, since nobody has any frame of reference.

Of note there is no US copyright of "Shroud of the Avatar" or it is pending, or that is just a working title.

Is Lord British's game going to be a new expansion to Carcassonne?

In related news, The Banner Saga multiplayer, which was advertised as a "Free" addition to a "DRM-free" game, is in fact a World of Tanks style dev-hosted Pay2Win. Apparently even 700% of their funding goal was not enough for Stoic to add P2P or LAN functionality and miss out on all those sweet, sweet microtransactions. Thanks for hurting crowdfunded games, you greedy scamming assholes. I guess it's true what they say: You can take the developer out of EA...
bullshitz.
they said it's going to be f2p from the very beginning
it's not p2w, as spending moneyz does not give you an advantage over the others

Yeah, the very articled that lophiaspis linked to explains it perfectly fine. You can argue the f2p MP component is banal shit boring, but you can't argue it's disingenious, fraudulent or whatever. They didn't shut up about it for months and months and during Kickstarter as well.

Well...being reminiscent of the earlier Ultima games is good enough for me. I think he's trying to psych up the old school fans. No one else would have picked up the similar art style.

Edit: And wow...Torment KS is already at 300k in under a few hours. BRITISH - IF THERE IS ANYTHING YOU WANT TO CHANGE ABOUT YOUR GAME PLEASE DO IT NOW. OLD SCHOOL IS WHAT WE WANT!

Judging by the early stuff he has been posting he is trying really hard to get the oldfag Ultima players on-board. I hope this ends up actually being good... :(

If the pitch is good he will get more than $3Mil. If the pitch is shit he won't get $500k.

Yep. He is going to have to do one hell of a pitch for this. He DOES have the command of the Ultima fans, but is he going to give us a new Ultima that we really want to play?

I'm not holding by breath though.

A new Ultima with NO characters, locations, lores, monsters from the original Ultima series because EA holds all rights on it? I don't know if we really want that. An Ultima without avatar and Britannia doesn't sound very sexy in my ears.

Well, Lord British won't have the Avatar and Britannia to cater to old fans, and just showing his outer-space face won't get him enough money, so he better make a damn good kickstarter... I'm curious on what he'll do.

Well, he still has the rights to Lord British IIRC, so it's not exactly NO characters or lore. If he can promise/deliver an actual Ultima V-VII style single player experience, I'm in and the money will pour in.

Unfortunately money might also pour in for the promise of an Ultima Online style experience.

I will expect to be disappointed and be pleasantly surprised if I'm not. I planed to spend about $150 on Kickstarters this week. Put down $125 for Torment already. I might chip in $25 to British's if it's single player. If he delivers even more, I might rethink my pledges to give a little more. First mention of facebook and he gets jack shit.

I can actually see him re-envisioning this (a new Ultima LIKE game). I'd be OK with the loss of the Headless or Britannia etc... Hell look at Torment. It;s a new vision and takes from what made PST work so well.

I can be done, and done well. But can Gariott pull it off? We will wait and see.

What talent and names can he round up, though? What does he have besides himself?

Uh...concept art by Denis Loubet?

It's a problem. Unlike Interplay, Origin never grew a cast of "superstar RPG designers". Except for Warren Spector, who managed to emerge from beneath Lord British's shadow, the people who made Ultima VII remained anonymous.

Like, imagine if Feargus was the only famous dude at Obsidian.
