I just wanna say, thank you to thread starter for making this thread.
And sgc_meltdown for pointing me to this thread.

There's been a lot crap games out lately, and I've lost faith in the meaning of RPG. That word...it meant that you play a role. Like in a movie or something. So I accepted that definition for so long, and I couldn't care less if some kickstarter promises the rebirth of some old-school RPGs. What's the difference, I thought. What makes old RPG so good? The last good RPG with turn based combat is...like...ToEE. I know Fallout and Jagged Alliance is great example. But most recent games don't have anything remotely good.

Now imagine my surprise when one day, sgc_meltdown tagged me in his post, leading me to this thread. I laughed. This is one of the fucking examples of why RPG is like...declining, isn't it? So much weaboo. And the attempt to cramp as many cliched content as possible. And homosexual romances! Holy shit. I'm totally sold in the concept of calling this the truest derp game company of the decade.

Because when you enter a site like this:

You do not expect RPGs...no sir, no. You probably laugh for a good 5 minutes before hitting the close tab and go back to surfing porno or masturbating to MCA's blogs and Brian Fargo's latest kickstarter announcement.
But I decided to take the 'make fun of this shit' further and play the game. At work.

15 minutes later...

:hmmm:

I can't take my mind off it. I want to go home and play this Stronghold some more. I wanna know why I'm getting trashed around in the stat-heavy combat. Are these non-skills combat going to turn out like AoD fail - you die nightmare?

No. I don't hate it. I can't make my self hate it. I liked it. What started off as a joke, turned into some kinda of attachment. I felt a need to defend and talk about this game. Take the limelight off other RPGs for a moment. Let this one shine.

It's all there. Planet Stronghold could've tried to be more original, but I had a feeling they weren't even trying to be that. Everything screams rip-off, but the combat and non-combat interaction of the game? More importantly, RPG aspect both combat and interaction with skills and party? Absolutely the best I've played this year.

:salute: Thanks for sharing guys. I love this forum.

Potatoland denizen reviews Descent to Undermountain. Please notice the character he's using.

Scanner's found something! Should we disembark?
josh.jpg
The part's gotta be here somewhere. Let's go!
mic.jpg
There's an abandoned building here... we should take a look inside.
bel.jpg
Take cover!
Inside, we spotted a few rebels with an alien native.

mic.jpg
Looks like they caught him in a place where he wasn't supposed to be.
bel.jpg
Well, I can't say I feel sorry for him considering how cruel and greedy they are!
rumi.jpg
It's three against one. That's not a fair battle.
josh.jpg
If we help him, he might help us...
bel.jpg
Don't count on that, Nelson.
phil.jpg
Who cares? Let them fight each other, and then we attack the survivors!
jac.jpg
Or, we could secure the piece while they're fighting... but it won't be easy. It would require a very stealthy individual.
mic.jpg
One thing's for sure, if we leave now, when we come back we might not get such a favorable situation again.
josh.jpg
You're...right. You're all right.
rumi.jpg
What should we do, Commander?

That was absolutely dreadful. I feel embarrassed for watching that.
But yes, the game is not bad.

I could stomach the art style if the could draw. Or had good artists. Because this is disfigured. Or is this a post apocalyptic game where mutants roam the wastelands?

This looks a lot like King's of Dragon Pass, except it could give me boners. What could go wrong ?

So how was Planet Stronghold on the whole? Did non-combat skills get used fairly often? C&C seem decent? Knee deep in freaky alien sex?

Also waiting for Loren to be not removed from inventory and Codex opinions. :codexisfor:

I am interested. Planet Stronghold is a pretty solid RPG, if you're into Bard's Tale combat. Neat non-combat skill usage as well in some quests. I like the way they spread out the options over some fights. Also, no random encounters.

Hmm not my cup of tea seeing they have fagg elves, magic and and almost pedobear delight young and thin girls but Planet Stronghold was nice RPG game. Completed romances with Sargess and Hoopy purged the xeno, didn't played as chick... game was too good for this kind of lulzy playthrough. Maybe will buy to support them maker though.

Random Encounters BG/fallout style only on Map.... No cliff racers/dragons BS
People who likes this should not be ashamed unlike those who bought Me3/Skyrim/F3/DA2 ARPGS.
