I just wanna say, thank you to thread starter for making this thread.
And sgc_meltdown for pointing me to this thread.
There's been a lot crap games out lately, and I've lost faith in the meaning of RPG. That word...it meant that you play a role. Like in a movie or something. So I accepted that definition for so long, and I couldn't care less if some kickstarter promises the rebirth of some old-school RPGs. What's the difference, I thought. What makes old RPG so good? The last good RPG with turn based combat is...like...ToEE. I know Fallout and Jagged Alliance is great example. But most recent games don't have anything remotely good.
Now imagine my surprise when one day, sgc_meltdown tagged me in his post, leading me to this thread. I laughed. This is one of the fucking examples of why RPG is like...declining, isn't it? So much weaboo. And the attempt to cramp as many cliched content as possible. And homosexual romances! Holy shit. I'm totally sold in the concept of calling this the truest derp game company of the decade.
Because when you enter a site like this:
You do not expect RPGs...no sir, no. You probably laugh for a good 5 minutes before hitting the close tab and go back to surfing porno or masturbating to MCA's blogs and Brian Fargo's latest kickstarter announcement.
But I decided to take the 'make fun of this shit' further and play the game. At work.
15 minutes later...
I can't take my mind off it. I want to go home and play this Stronghold some more. I wanna know why I'm getting trashed around in the stat-heavy combat. Are these non-skills combat going to turn out like AoD fail - you die nightmare?
No. I don't hate it. I can't make my self hate it. I liked it. What started off as a joke, turned into some kinda of attachment. I felt a need to defend and talk about this game. Take the limelight off other RPGs for a moment. Let this one shine.
It's all there. Planet Stronghold could've tried to be more original, but I had a feeling they weren't even trying to be that. Everything screams rip-off, but the combat and non-combat interaction of the game? More importantly, RPG aspect both combat and interaction with skills and party? Absolutely the best I've played this year.
Thanks for sharing guys. I love this forum.
