Anyone tried the dungeon exploration part yet? Curious to know how that plays.
It's pretty simplistic top down affair.
There are no wandering monsters or such on dungeons, only some rooms that contain monsters and some traps on hallways.

There's also over world that plays like poor man's Battle Brothers.

Tactical battles are pretty ok.

My biggest complaint is that you can only create one character in adventure mode and then have to hire the other adventurers (in arena mode, you can create your own party). While you can change the NPC names and appearances, I'd still rather just create my own party of adventurers to go dungeon delving with, especially since you control them in combat anyway. What kind of game is so close to Gold-Box goodness and doesn't let you create your own party?

At least on current version you can create all 6 party members (or pick pre-created ones).

-There are no caravans or patrols sent from towns, everything that's moving on the map is hostile
-Early game quests are very simple (go to town, go to town & return, deliver cabbages or such to town or buy x number of stuff & return)
-Enemies level scale to your party

edit.
I'm not really complaining since I paid about 3€ for it and it's still work in progress.

Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't played it in about a month or so, and at that point, you still couldn't create a whole party. The devs must have finally listened to people complaining about it.

That can only make the game better, honestly.

Notice for Price Increase
3 June - Low Magic Studios
Hello Adventurers,

First of all, thank you for your long-term support and help! Thank you for your feedback and suggestions that help us to improve LMA!

The adventure mode that has been developed for nearly a year has finally been released, and we will continue to improve it to make it more playable. Of course, the updates of other game features will also be followed up simultaneously.

As we said in the Early Access statement, we started the EA stage of LMA at a low price to thank players who have been supporting and caring about us since the prototype stage. As the game develops, the price will be gradually increased until the full release. Therefore, after the current discount event and the Summer Sale (same discount), we intend to increase the game price from 6 US dollars to 10 US dollars.

Thanks again for your continuous support!

- AM
Low Magic Studios

There's also a new patch that adds battle formations.

I was looking to buy it but read that often wizards would stay front and get killed fast by enemies because of lack of these formations. Them implementing it removes that reason from not buying it :)

Needs more classes, 6 party members and only five classes is slightly annoying. Are they planning to implement all 3.5e class types?

I don’t know if they plan to add all classes, but more are supposed to come.

Their long term goals have 11 classes. Multiclassing is another goal. They also mention 15 prestige classes.

Remade monster AI module - Changed the original interest maximization AI to following 3 types based on the natural Intelligence:
-- Instinctual: Creatures with low intelligence like animals attack nearby enemies instinctively without any strategy.
-- Tactical: Humanoid creatures at a normal level of intelligence can choose more favorable positions in combat, attack opponents with lower defense first, and know how to cooperate with each other.
-- Advanced Tactical: These creatures are more cunning. On the tactical basis, they also consider the target's remaining HP since killing is a key indicator of damage output maximization.

The behavior patterns of summoned creatures of players are not affected by Intelligence. They always use the Advanced Tactical AI.

This also bugged me when I tried it a few months back, but I tried it recently and formation customization has thankfully been implemented.

The adventure mode seems to have no goal or objecting you just wander around for the sake of it, very boring, maybe will try again when they add a win condition.

So... the early versions of the Battle Brothers campaign?

Something like that but with a good battle system and a very good character creation.
Still, i hope their "battle brothers" features aren't going to kill the game and they'll come around adding something meaningful to do.

Maybe, to me battle brothers campaign was unplayable before they added teh crisis to add a "kidn of objective" to me battle brothers crisis are , paraphrasing designers themselves in their notes, to add that "end game goal". When i play battle brothers is about completing the first crisis, mostly because in their notes thats how designers themselves, claim to have been designed. Low magic age needs something like that.
I like to play ironman with that goal. Sadly it's kind of exploitable and thats a big drawback from battle brothers.

Found this game will browsing sites looking for newer turn based DnD/Pathfinder games. Sounds good on paper. Anybody have any views on how long until it is a 'full' game vs. current early access?

It's a full game now. The only thing that people are bitching about is their expectations of what kind of game it should be versus what kind of game it actually is. It was never meant to be a sprawling dungeon crawler with a deep story. It started as a battle simulator, reminiscent of the Gold Box games, with a full Arena mode. It later added a randomized adventure mode to give you another way to develop your characters. There's no story, but under the hood it's really a six-character-party rogue-like with multiple dungeons, so it doesn't need one.

I bought this game when it first came out (back when they were selling it for the cheap ass price of $3.99) and I have gotten my money's worth out of it many times over.

Ok, but is spellcasting still cooldown based?
