    The run

I'm running Kingmaker, challenging Diff. Last Aslanti mode enabled. I'm also trying out the Call of the Wild mod. I've had it installed for a bit but haven't wanted to use it on my other saves. So some of this will be new to me!

I don't expect to complete the game. I'm not bad at Kingmaker, but I'm not enough of a pro to beat the game without dying once. But I can promise you I'll complete the LP. You'll get to see my character's adventure from his creation to his untimely death. Hopefully he dies with honor at least....

Yes I'm cheating the Kingdom management, but only a bit. Everything will be left default except ruler managed events will only take 1 day. I'm trying to de-stress my life, not add stress to it. Fuck needing to use an IRL calendar to plan my ingame work. I just don't need that right now.

My favorite class is the Cleric. I think the strongest class I've played would be the Sword Saint, but I'll be roleplaying a little in this run. I want him to be a reasonable build for what he is, but he doesn't need to be optimal.

So I've gone with a Faultspawn Tiefling ecclesithiurge of Gozreh (genderfluid African nature god/godess), lawful neutral, with animal domain as primary and a new thing as secondary. That's really cool. I usually dump CHA on clerics because I don't think channeling is very good. This lets me get something back.

Level 1 build (His name is Linnorn)

Yes I dumped his INT. No I won't be trying to roleplay that aspect of his character. I just wanted the stats.

Linnorn is born. He's in the world and he's already made his first friend. Linzi the halfling bard. She's writing a book about adventurers. He tells her he's no hero, just a mercenary, but she's persistent. He's a polite guy and doesn't want to be rude, but he doesn't care to be famous either.

She's got a bone to pick with a loud gnome from the meeting they just attended. Linnorn likes Linzi, but doesn't care to involve himself in interpersonal drama with strangers...

After the meeting he goes to bed in the mansion. He's an outdoorsy type and prefers camping over fine linen. So he's still awake and pacing when Linzi bursts into his room in a panic. The mansion has been attacked!

I forgot to enable fucking turn based mode and take a hit while fooling with screenshots. Regardless, victory:

Ok he's got a longbow. This will be his weapon of choice for the course of the run.

Oh fuck down already is this it?

Nope. Tartucchio gets sleep in this mod. Goodnight you filthy animals!

Ok IMGUR won't let me upload any more images right now. I'll find another image hosting site to use I guess and continue this in a part two

Ok trying a new hosting solution. Back to the action. Eat fire you bastards!

Now to hit 'em with the daze cantrip. "I SAID STAY DOWN!"

Without the Daze cantrip I probably wouldn't make it through the tutorial. So I'm spamming it:

So I met Jaethal. I see they respecced her. She's using a bow now. I don't really care for that. I think her scythe is cool. Oh well, at least she's a reasonable build.

Anyway, the four of us use daze to stun lock and cheap shot our way through a couple more easy fights, and then we come across a "wounded" dwarf. Linnorn is usually a polite chap but he's having a rough day and has no time for this kind of bullshit melodrama. Not when we're under attack:

Harrim got the respec too. I was initially horrified but it actually kind of fits him. I'll keep him in this class and see how he goes.

Ok this pissed me off. I love Valerie as a tower shield specialist. I also don't agree with calling her a "Vindictive Bastard". I get that it's a fallen paladin, but it's just not her at all. Not how I understand her character. She can be a bitch at times, but she's a good person.

Ok. Time to see what these new companions can do. Final fight of the tutorial. Buffs on lets go!

Well... the respecced companions are a lot stronger it seems. This was a cakewalk. I grudgingly admit I like them like this. No, I freaking love them like this!

Here are my choices when dealing with Jamandi. Aced persuasion checks. WIS persuasion confirmed functional.

Ok so we survived the tutorial at least. Time to head out into the world. Next episode is a short one. Is that because I die at Oleg's? You'll have to read it to see!

Episode 2 - Fucking shit fuck I fucked up and I'm doomed

    Show Spoiler
    Show Spoiler

We made our way from Jamandi's mansion to the Stolen Lands, my future barony... if I live to claim it. After a long walk we stopped at a trading post to rest, maybe eat something. But when we arrived we saw there was trouble.

Bandits. Bastard criminals. I didn't waste words on them.

Amiri proceeds to get down. Blood for Gorum! Er... I mean Gozreh. Crap should have picked Gorum. She's so cool.

Levelup time baby! This was my ace in the hole. The reason I went ecclesithieurge rather than generic cleric. The reason I'm lawful. Monk dip. Sweet sweet AC. No more kissing the pavement for me! I didn't see it yet. Can you?

Anyway, I don't have builds planned for anyone. I don't know these new classes. Valerie gets a bonus feat. I chose Iron Will.

Amiri gets reckless stance. I won't be taking inspire ferocity, I just chose this because she doesn't really lose much from an AC debuff (she's going to get hit anyway if you try tanking with her), and it stacks with inspire courage.

Ok this kind of sucks. Bards don't get rogue talents. So no combat trick then. I didn't think bards were OP to begin with but whatever. If I have to choose versatile performance I guess I'll pick perception.

I don't need him throwing bombs all over the place. I'll take the alchemists fire as my payment for the job. Something like that could come in handy. Besides, with my monk AC there's no way a few lousy bandits will be killing me. I still didn't see it.

    WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Yeah they fucking nerfed it. Monk AC bonus capped at monk level. I mean I agree with this change. I've actually said myself this change should be made. But holy shit am I boned. I'm down a cleric level for not very much and now I'm trying to ironman as an ecclesithiurge. I'm so dead.

Thank God for little linzi and her hideous laughter!

Go Linzi go! My life, and my first Codex LP depend on you right now! No pressure...

Valerie turns another one to paste! Nice. It looks like I'm living through this...

    Ok I made it. Phew.

Time to take stock. The new companions are cool, but we don't have a tank. I was going to be one, and Val was going to be the other. No tank means I'm a fish out of water. I rely on them a lot. I like Val's new class, but paladins aren't tanks. They don't get armor training. They do well using a polearm from the second line, smiting evil, dealing damage, buffing from auras and laying on hands. They won't last long upfront against anything serious, not without a lot of healing. Not my style.

My build is fucking broken from the start. I've really fucked myself.

But I'll press on. Adventures await. Still, I'm going to need to hire some help. We need someone with godly AC. Next episode.

Wait seriously? Someone rated that my images aren't loading. God damn it. That's a lot of pictures to reupload. I'll see if IMGUR is working again.

    Edit: That should be fixed.

    Ok so...

I had to respec. I'm not trying to optimize but I can't stand a useless level. I'm keeping him as close as I can to how he was it's just... he kinda changed religion. We'll say Jaethal had a pretty big impact on him because he worships Urgathoa now. And he's true neutral. Death domain and conversion inquisition. He's also lost the useless monk level. That one made me look like a rank amateur. I've not played this mod before, only messed with it a little. I didn't realize how much existing classes had changed. But I wasn't going to cop out of playing an ecclesithiurge on Ironman. I've only changed one difficulty setting, and that was to allow character retrain. Last time I promise. If I fuck up like that again I'll live with it... assuming I even live to level 3.

I've given him a Wizard level instead of the monk. Had to switch his domain because he's going to be quite multiclassed in the unlikely event he lives long enough for his build to take shape. Boon companion wouldn't cover it. I'll be sticking to a theme though. Necromancy. He's not evil or power hungry but he doesn't want to die. As a Tiefling he's afraid he'll be claimed by the Abyss. So by hook or by book he's going to live forever... yeah right.

No HP, no AC. Not an ideal main for ironman. I've played builds like this as a follower. They sometimes die randomly, but you can res them. Not with your main. You die and it's game over. Save deleted. Eventually this will happen. One in every 20 attacks is a critical hit.

That's enough updating for tonight. I'll play some more and take more screens for the next episode.

Episode 3 - Getting ready for adventure
    Show Spoiler
    Show Spoiler

While sleeping, a forest maiden came to Linnorn.

He was tired and less than impressed. Not his finest moment to be sure, but she could have come tomorrow morning. Still, he felt a bit bad about being rude, and she was offering to help him find the stag lord. So he did the sensible thing and promised to look into her lead.

Hmm, what's this under the stairs... nothing it seems (failed perception check). No idea why Linnorn would be looking there. I guess he just woke up.

Some more chatting with Linzi. He learns about her past. She's a bard. Very bardy. From Pitax. He also had a lot of insulting things to say about her decision to write a book. For a cleric/wizard he's a real ignorant son of a bitch it seems. I guess he only values practical books. He does seem to sell all the ones he finds without reading them. Oddly, between neutral and lawful evil, I find lawful evil the less rude option here. So we'll go with that.

Svetlana asked him for some help. Bandits took her ring and she wants it back. She's a good hearted woman, because she asked the bandit not be harmed. No promises there, but I'll try get the ring back. I mean, I'm here to kill bandits right? Didn't want to upset here though, so just said I'll be happy to help. Manners cost nothing.

Talking to the cowardly old alchemist reveals another quest. He wants some ingredients from a dangerous cave. The craven bastard refused to help us fight the bandits, and Linnorn nearly died. But he's paying so we're doing it. Running a barony sounds expensive and I have a feeling we will need every gold piece we can lay hands on and then some...

Linnorn decides to get to know his companions. The barbarian, Amiri, is a bit standoffish. Is she on her period? I didn't think chicks who used that alchemichal juice still got their periods... y'know, the bullshark testosterone. And come on, just look at her. She's juiced as fuck... Oooh. Roid rage. Better give he some space for now.

No I think this is a period thing. Goddammit two minutes together and they've already synchronized their cycles. Chicks man.

Valerie apologizes for her outburst, but then Linnorn, the horny little goat man, has to take a punt... You're charisma 7 Linnorn and you have goat horns and goat legs. How do you think this is going to work out for you? Do you think she'll drop and gobble your goatman dick?

This is the most m'lady fucking incel shit I've heard dude. I'm cringing. But it seems to have smoothed things over. Lets quit while we're ahead...

Time for a bit of trading. We already sold everything from Jamandi's mansion before the fight, now after selling the loot from the bandits (and some of Olegs own things) we have enough to hire somebody.

We have a tank now. I bought him some half plate to last him until we find real armor, and a masterwork heavy mace. That and two potions of moderate healing took all our gold.

    Anyway, meet Duncan:

Err, gimme a sec... there he is!

So we're all good to go. Next episode we're leaving the trading post. This will be one of the most perilous times in the run. Levels 1 - 3 are pretty dicey. Until you get a few levels you're always one crit away from death. Especially playing a caster. We'll see what happens.

    Episode 4: Harrim
    Show Spoiler
    Show Spoiler

Ok so we're off from Oleg's and we mean a rambling old man. He talks of invisible fog and other vagaries.

I humor him, and he gives me a lead on Tartucchio!

    Lets get after him then.

We're expecting a fight, so we buff up.

Tartucchio. The smug little bastard. He's giving my former allies hell. So I ask Harrim to join me instead.

Harrim agrees. He'll go along with me and see if he can teach me the ways of Groetus. Tartucchio and Jaethal leg it, leaving their mercenaries to cover their retreat. A fight ensues.

Well, I have a tank now. Lets have him go first.

Harrim goes down to a crit. He is level one.

Amiri is doing really good work. It's incredible what just a bit more STR does for her. She's taken the archer and caster out while Duncan and Valerie tank the melee dudes.

Unfortunately paladins aren't tanks. Valerie goes down. She's got shield focus and combat expertise, but I'll be moving sword and board to a secondary for her at some point. She needs to switch to reach. Can't be too picky just yet though. I don't have a replacement secondary tank.

Honestly, the only companion whose respec seems like a straight upgrade so far is Amiri. She's got all the kills in this fight. Her and Duncan are carrying the team.

Victory. This fight is pretty easy though, so that wasn't ever in doubt.

    Time to get after Tartuccio!

Well shit. He got away. That's bad for a couple reasons. Number one, fuck that guy. Number two, I was hoping to level up a bit on the easy fights around the Old Sycamore. Clearing that place out is a good way to level up before taking on the more dangerous stuff. And we really need to level up.

But that's the beauty of ironman. I can't save scum this even if I wanted to. Autosaves only and no reloading. Game wouldn't let me even if I tried. We're not far in and I'm already well outside my comfort zone.

I'm maining a pure support class, I don't really know how to play my respecced party effectively and I'm now being pushed to do some rather scary fights (for a level 2 party).

Everything's up in the air here. If I make it through the prologue I should be able to get a handle on things. But there's a very real chance I won't make it that far. I still have no AC, I'm still too love level to get cocky with anything.

I'm loving playing like this, but I'm not loving doing the LP to be honest. Regretting promising to finish it in my OP. It's a chore, especially because nobody is commenting. Makes me think nobody is reading it, and it's either a shit LP or no-one cares about this game now Wrath is out. I'm going to finish it anyway because I did promise to and it isn't good for you to break your promises.

Hopefully I'll get some readers and maybe I'll figure out a process for doing this that isn't so labour intensive. I'd like to have reader participation like other LPs, but I need people in the comments for that to work.

Just do a single screen per fight, use the most significant one. Unless something funny happens. Starting LPs can be daunting since participation is really what keeps you going forward (imho) although for some it's akin to a diary of sort.

    Anyway, keep those coming!

    Episode 5 - Harrim I'm so sorry
    Show Spoiler
    Show Spoiler

So we start episode 5 at the Thorn Ford. Looking for bandits. We found them. A fight!

Umm... there's only two of them... this isn't usually this hard.

Harrim goes down. Still only slightly worried.

Hideous laughter gives us a break from the rain of death from above.

Turn goddamn six against two bandits! This guy is pissing me off...

We won of course, but I need to wake up a bit. The things I think of as easy fights aren't really. Lets camp.

Lets buff up all the way up (including our few items)

Now lets fight more bandits. I didn't take pics of the dialogue because I wasn't sure if my buffs were running out while I was talking. It's the bandits the chick from the trading post asked us to find, to get her ring back. I attack them on sight. Hideous laughter on the boss is a good start.

We started strong, but we're stuggling to clear their front line. Can't just rush their archers because that leaves Linnorn at the mercy of the melee guys. He'd die. Linzi gets shot. Still, I like enlarged monk/cleric thing Harrim. He's a reach monk/cleric thing. It's ridiculous but it works.

Valerie lies down again. I'm starting to think she's just lazy.

Well, we lived. And we saved their prisoner. A cleric of Eristil called Jhod.

I don't want to say this, it's completely out of character for Linnorn. But I don't want an alignment shift either. Saving my good choices for more important stuff. Not crazy about alignment it video games. Never seen it done well.

Anyway we saved him, and found a lead on the Stag Lord. An abandoned cabin. He head off to check it out, but we run into trouble. Big trouble.

After my performance against the bandits earlier I'm certain I will be killed if I fight them. I've never done anything with these guys before except kill them. Even on ironman. But those were stronger builds, and a party I am familiar with. I feel terrible for making this decision but...

Amiri, fierce as ever, Volunteers to go with them. She's a lioness that one, and that's exactly why I can't let her. Her and Duncan are carrying the team.

    Harrim, I'm so, so sorry.

Oh never mind, he's totally fine with this. If anything he seems disappointed that I'll inevitably rescue him.

And that's it. Harrim is gone and I'm even further into uncharted territory.

Obviously we'll be needing to get him back then. Next episode.

Cheers man. Yeah I need to screencap less. There's so much combat in this game. I was thinking I would only do multiple screens if I nearly died in a fight, but so far that's been every fight. So lots of screens so far. I guess I'll have to lower the bar to when someone actually dies, or fights I find especially daunting can get multiple screens.

For spoiler tags, I think it's better to spoiler the entire update rather than individual pictures, way less of a hassle to open each spoiler.

    Episode 6 - Scary boggards
    Show Spoiler

We start this episode in pursuit of the Technic league, who have kidnapped our Monk/cleric thing friend Harrim. Despite failing most of our checks, we find their camp anyway.

But we're level 2. We need to get stronger before we can take them on. So lets go pick on someone our own size, and get a bit of loot in the process. Boggards. Except...

What a comedy of fucking errors this run has been. This one is 100% on me. I forgot to prepare the remove fear spell. Everyone fails their save except Linnorn and Linzi.

Leaving them alone facing three angry boggards!

That's where I should have died. Except Duncan, the magnificent bastard, makes his save. And then they all do. We're back.

We make short work of them.

And we camp to prepare remove fear.

    For fucks sake!

It actually wasn't that bad. Duncan saved our bacon.

We kill some more boggards. It goes a lot better with remove fear.

We get two rings of protection +1 and a cloak of resistance +1. Front liners get priority on gear, after my main. Duncan deserves it.

I want to get Harrim back, but we're still a long way from level 3. Let's check out the abandoned hut.

The nymph is there to great us.

She shows me visions of an insane druid abusing his son.

We kill some wolves in our first completely one-sided fight since the tutorial boss fight.

Linnorn sees another vision. The abused boy grows up to become the Stag Lord. Makes sense.

The Nymph reappears. Nobody else can see or hear her. Valerie is concerned about me talking to myself.

We hunt around a bit more, find some loot and a note mentioning an ancient temple we should check out. It's a possible source of the enchanted fog.

But we need to replenish our supplies, rest and take stock before we head out again. On the way back a moment of madness strikes me. I decide this episode needs an exciting grand finale. A tough (but winnable) fight. A fight I've never lost before. But then I must have never tried it at level 2...

Everyone is down. I have nothing that will save me. I can't even try to run. The spike stones will kill me.

    And that's it.

Here's what happens if you click load last save. It's just my latest save from custom difficulty. Linnorn and friends are gone forever.

So that's it. Linnorns short, tough life is over. I planned on making him a 3 cleric/3 wizard mystic theurge that cast buffs from his wizard book and offensive spells from his cleric book. It wasn't to be. RIP Linnorn, you never lived long enough to be worth a damn. Duncan was a goddamn beast though. He lasted a lot of rounds before he went down. He just couldn't hit the Dryad and Valerie and Amiri couldn't get to him. We just didn't have enough healing items for them to take the damage and make it.

I knew this outcome was possible, but I was a bit cocky I think. Playing an ecclisitheirge, taking risks to be entertaining. The early game is hard and perilous for any character and I should have respected that more. I actually really like having these screens though, and documenting their journey, while laborious, leaves me with something to remember the experience.

I'm gonna try again with a more serious character. I don't want to go with a sword saint, been there done that. I could just play as Duncan's build. He's solid and it would save having to hire him. Or I could try one of the modded classes. Do something completely different.

Let's see what I come up with... next episode.

He's polite. Even if he asked for money he wouldn't have been so uncouth about it.

I don't know how much time you've spent in the LP section, but the only time you're going to get a lot of audience feedback (and I mean of any kind, even ratings) is when the gameplay can be made participatory. But don't take it to mean no one's watching or appreciates your effort. Generally, if you want feedback or commentary just ask for it. We'll provide.

I would probably be brofisting all of your "playing" posts itt but I'm... you know... on a rating hiatus

Yeah, kingmaker early game can be brutal, WotR is much easier on that department. Also, some of the mod-introduced changes sound especially hard on ironman, you definitely want either a main tank or some sort of backup plan. Imho the changes to Valerie aren't exactly for the best, you get a marginal dps increase but lose on an excellent tank + scarebot if you build her as Thug with D.Disp. and C.Smash, less damage but loads of utility. Still, it was a fun read, I'd be curious to see a second attempt, now that you know about those new variables.

As Kalarion said, usually you get more feedback with participation. This could either be directions in general or as little as asking who should get a scroll first (in case of competing wizards/alchemists) or any other kind of resources, like a cure wound when you're low on supplies and cannot stop for resting. Don't stop your LP for every little nuance but if you are close to call it a day and there's something left for you to decide, you could try writing it as a question for those who follow.

Season 2 teaser trailer - Better fortune, and a new ally.

I've decided that when my main dies he's gone for good and whoever the hireling is becomes the new main. I'm also not going to take screens from the start each time. I don't want a thread of me doing the tutorial 5 times. So I've played up to close to where we were, and I'm only taking screens now that things have started to go differently. Duncan is a much better main than Linnorn was. He just feels so much stronger. Combats aren't as hair raising, but then I was getting sick of nearly dying to bandits.

    Anyway, back to the action...

    Show Spoiler

So I breezed through the tutorial and trading post. I've got Harrim. Time to try that skill check again...

    Better roll this time. Nice.

We catch up with Tartucchio. He's turned himself into a Kobold!

Duncan is Lawful Neutral (I think I made the mercenary Duncan lawful good but whatever), but he's a fighter. He can say whatever the fuck he wants. Hooray for freedom of speech!

Tartucchio runs off again. Two kobolds sacrifice themselves to cover his escape.

Now to introduce you to our newest team member:

Yes I know. Dwarf is probably the worst race for an Eldritch Scoundrel. The picture was too cool. I had to make that character.

So that's where we're at. Not much progress lost (at least from the reader's perspective). I've got work to do over the next few days so if there are updates they won't be many. Next major update will probably be next weekend, when I will have the chance to binge play again and do a bunch of episodes.

Next time we'll be heading to the Old Sycamore. There we'll have to decide who to side with. Mites, Kobolds or neither (neutral option, don't get involved). Or we could just kill all of them. What do you guys think? Option with the most posts is what I'll do.

yeah, it's annoying how sometime how we envision our character vs the available dialogue options

for who to side with, I haven't played the game so I'd say kill them all, though I don't know if that's compatible with your LN alignement. And yeah that portrait for Brogan is really cool

So I should really be working but... I skived off for a couple hours just now and made an episode. I'll be trying something new for season 2. Because it's come to my attention that at least some of you haven't played this, I'll be posting short story summaries of the most salient plot details with each update. That way those people know what's going on. I won't be editing old posts to do that, I'll just make a long one for this post, the short ones for future posts.

    The story so far:
    Show Spoiler

    Characters

    Duncan

A grumpy, Scottish fighter. The protagonist. Lawful neutral, no backstory other than being a sell sword. Duncan's personality will emerge over the course of his adventure, based on his, my and your choices.

    Brogan Bloodgrace

A mercenary I hired from Oleg's trading post. Dwarven Eldrich scoundrel (rogue/wizard hybrid class). Limited casting, limited sneak attacking. Solid, interesting class but arguably not as strong as being as specialist in either thing. He's a utility/support character for us who will become strong in combat if we make it to the mid/late game. If Duncan dies I'll probably make him as a straight rogue knife master TBH. It's just stronger IMO, though there are things to be said for ES. Like tanking potential with spells.

    Harrim

A priest of Groetus, the god of the end times. Harrim is a dwarf with a tragic backstory. Unlike all the other dwarves who are skill blacksmiths, Harrim couldn't even forge a simple nail. He believes this to a curse from Torag, god of dwarves, and hates Torag for this. His lack of smithing talent caused him to leave Dwarven society in shame and live as a wandering drunkard until he was called to serve by Groetus (and stopped drinking).

He's fatalistic and extremely depressed. He welcomes death and preaches constantly about the futility of everything, relishing the thought of Groetus destroying the existence which has been so hard on him.

    Valerie
Valerie is from a noble background. All her life she's been renowned for her beauty, something she deeply resents. She feels objectified and wishes to be taken more seriously, based on her other qualities. It's a very sore point for her.

As a child she was given to an order of paladins or Shelyn, the goddess of art, beauty and love. She hated life as a paladin of Shelyn, as she was frequently the target of unwanted affection, and was unable to tell her suiters to just fuck off because of the rules of her faith. She rebelled and left the order, before joining Duncan on his quest. She hates Shelyn, hates art, hates music, literature and anything she considers useless. She's also an atheist, which in the context of this game means she believes in the gods, but doesn't see them as deserving of worship.

    Linzi

A very bardy halfling bard. She grew up in a small rural village, and left home to study at a bard's college. She was expelled for irreverence. She's writing a book about our adventures which she hopes to publish. That book acts as our journal/quest log, as well as the text you see during the text adventure sections of the game.

She has a magic ring that will teleport her to a safe zone if she's about to die (functionally this means if she's killed she doesn't need to be raised, she'll just be back at Oleg's).

    Amiri

Amiri is a barbarian from a frozen wasteland. Her tribe were pretty trad, and didn't allow women to be warriors. Amiri wanted to be one anyway, and had a falling out with them that lead her to us. She hasn't revealed the details of this falling out to us yet. She's quite insecure, always looking to prove she's as strong as any man. Canonically she isn't (the base game gives her 16 STR which is ok but not great) but the mod has changed her stats so she is, giving her a 19.

She carries a giant sword (you can't unequip it from her). It does reasonable damage (in the early game) but it gives her -2 to hit because it's too big for her to wield it effectively. We'll be giving her a few different weapons to use as we find them.

    Jaethal

Jaethal, who we met briefly in the prologue, is an undead elf. She hasn't revealed her backstory to us yet because she's with Tartuccio at present.

    Events recap

We started the story in the mansion of Jamandi Aldori. She is a Swordlord, ruler of a city state. She's embroiled in a power struggle with some ancient enemies and needs allies, so she's hired a bunch of adventurers to go to a neighboring territory, the Stolen Lands kill the bandit lord that rules them, and claim them as their own barony.

The Stolen Lands are lawless, wild and unclaimed by civilization. The closest they have to a ruler is the aforementioned bandit lord, who calls himself the Stag Lord. Jamandi wants us (and others) to found baronies in the region, so that we can be her 'allies' (effectively puppet regimes) and support her in her upcoming power struggle (more on that in later updates).

Tartucchio is a spy from Pitax, a chaotic realm with a criminal king. He's responsible for the attack on the mansion and the attempt on Jamandi's life. He attempted to frame us as the culprit. Jamandi wasn't sure who to believe and sent us both out separately to the stolen lands. Based on my choices in dialogue some potential companions accompanied me (Valerie, Linzi, Amiri) and others went with Tartucchio (Jaethal, Harrim).

We left the mansion and arrived at Oleg's trading post, in the stolen lands. It was under attack by the Stag Lord's bandits who we killed. More came and we killed them too.

A nymph came to Duncan as he slept, and told him of magical fog that is hurting the plants in the land, and hiding the stag lord's fortress. She asked us to find the source of the fog and stop the stag lord. We also got side quests to find a missing wedding ring for Oleg's wife Svetlana, and gather some ingredients for the alchemist Bokken.

When we set out we ran into an old man. He was rambling, but seemed to have some sort of preternatural insight into what was going on. He told us where to find Tartucchio. We went where he said to go and found Tartucchio with the aforementioned companions and some hired goons, looking for some kind of artifact. We asked Harrim to join us and he agreed. Tartucchio and Jaethal ran out the back, and we fought and killed the thugs before pursuing Tartucchio.

We caught up to him in a clearing, he'd transformed himself into a kobold and had found a tribe of kobold followers. We killed them.

Phew! Now we're up to date we can start today's episode. Future story recaps will be much shorter than this!

Season 2: Episode 1 - Mindless slaughter of the little ones

    Show Spoiler

We follow Tartucchio to the Old Sycamore.

There we are met by Kesten Garess, Jamandi Aldori's man.

Tartucchio's deception has been uncovered and our name has been cleared. Tartucchio is now a wanted gnome.

Garess tasks us with capturing Tartucchio, before taking his leave to recuperate at Oleg's trading post.

Venturing into the area we encounter two groups of little tribesmen. Kobolds and mites (small, goblin-like fey) who are at loggerheads. The kobolds, tricked by Tartucchio (who they believe is a kobold and have made their shaman), have stolen a treasure from the mites. They did so because Tartuccio has stolen a treasure from them, and deceived them into thinking the mites did it.

We could side with either mites or kobolds here, or as a neutrally aligned character we have the option to side with neither and let them fight amongst themselves. Instead we decide to just butcher the whole lot of them! Valerie approves.

They die easily. They've got decent DEX but no con, and they do next to no damage with their puny little weapons. We proceed to smash their little bodies into bloody chunks, Mite and Kobold alike.

The next battle isn't exactly tough, just annoying. While killing more kobolds and mites Duncan fails a fear save and runs into some Tatzlwyrms.

They crit a lot so he ends up chugging potions while he waits for the others to kill their way through to him.

Eventually the party cuts their way through the kobolds and dispatches the Tatzylwyrms. Thankfully Duncan wasn't poisoned.

Not wanting to push any further, we rest among to recover our spells. We pitch our tent on the battlefield, amid the tiny, pathetic corpses of our slain foes.

Moving on we run into some kobolds and mites chilling out together. Wait isn't there a war on?

It turns out they are hunting buddies, and didn't want to kill each other. Duncan lets them live for now. They seem friendly, and tell him of a dangerous wolf in the area. He agrees to kill it for them. He can always come back and kill them later, I suppose.

Exploring the area, the party have a couple nice, level appropriate fights with giant frogs, winning easily.

While looking around they find an overgrown passage down an embankment. They decide to check it out.

They fail their athletics check and the entire party goes tumbling down the hill, mildly injuring themselves.

At the bottom of the hill they find some mites hiding out with a treasure chest they have pilfered

    They kill them.

And they take the treasure. It's a magical dagger and some magic bracers. Both unidentified (nobody has knowledge arcana yet, I'll fix that next level). I give both to Brogan.

We camp again and are attacked while hunting

    Twice.

Neither fight is anything serious, and having dispatched both bandits and a Tatzylwyrm we get a good night's rest.

We wake up fresh and rested, ready for another day of killing, killing and more killing.

Seriously there are so many kobolds and mites. This area is huge. We're going to be slaughtering them for ages. I may not even take images of all the fights. So that's where I'm up to. Next time I steal a few hours to play I'll just be killing lots of kobolds and mites. There are also some tough enemies in this area for our level, but I'm going to try to level up a bit on the mites, kobolds and other trash mobs before before I take on the scarier stuff. Next time, more killing. Probably more killing for 2 or 3 more episodes.

oups, I hadn't realized that choosing to kill them all added that many more fights... Well, at least that's more XP for the party, right?

Also from my own experience doing a LP, I'd say don't bother picture fights that are redundant

More XP and some useful loot. It's what I would have chosen to do, and our lawful neutral companion agrees so it's in line with our alignment. There's one or two fights added with a bit of risk, but we may be able to purchase consumables to lessen that.

We start our morning with killing kobolds and mites.

    Also deer lol

We find a camp full of dead bodies that we didn't kill. Should we spend the night?

No. That's really not the best idea. We should just keep killing things.

Oh shit these deer are fighting back!

    We won. Triumphant heroes.

What's going on here? These kobolds seem kind of fucked up...

Celestial radish huh? Like moonradishes? The narcotic? Bokken wanted some of those...

What a funny little troupe they are! Anyhow...

    Radishes!

Holy crap what is that? Well it's not hostile... it actually seems kind of lonely.

Lets camp here for the night, try to cheer it up!

We drift off to sleep, comfy and safe with our new lonely friend. Unfortunately Duncan has a horrible nightmare.

We... should really take care of that. Duncan has the feeling he'll rarely get a good night's rest until we do (he actually won't, he'll be constantly fatigued after a while).

A bit more killing first though!

So we need to go back and buy some consumables, and we also need to stop by the Shrike River, to see what that dream was about.

Should we go do that now? Or try to clear the area with what we have? It's totally possible to do, I've done it loads of times... but it would be safer if we can buy scrolls of resist energy communal and death ward first. Maybe even a delay poison communal, though we don't really need that.

There's a couple level appropriate fights we could do over near Oleg's as well. We could do those. Or we could go down into the caves in this area now... I've got a feeling we might run into an old friend down there. It's risky to go without many health pots or items, but not unacceptably risky, and we'd probably hit level 3.

    Comments choose.

I'd say taking risks while low level and playing iron man isn't a good idea, go back for supplies before going in the cave.
