Move MP subforum to Playground

Multiplayer subforum has more in common with the Playground than with discussions of MMORPGs where it is now. Playground is a place where people gather together to play games or watch people playing games. There is an argument to be made for moving the subforum to where it 'spiritually' belongs.

It's a bit hectic right now. Dominions games are confined to the MP forum, but Alpha Centauri ones are still in Playground. A new SMAC player turned up and I don't really know where to send them to find fellow players. The guys from the Dominion threads asked us in the Playground how come they got exiled to a shitty subforum, so there are those sentiments, too.

So I've made this thread to discuss the possible merits of subj. I think that it is pretty logical and separates talking about the games and actually playing games. What's your take?

If this requires voting I guess we can make a quick poll.

I have no problem with dominion threads where they are now. We organize, play, talk about the game and shit post all in one place. It could probably be more than just a refuge for dominions players but no one else seems to know about it. If the SMAC bros want to transfer over out of the messy playground forum they should do so, I'm sure we would read each others' threads with great interest.

Well, that's the thing. Playground is basically the only place on the Codex I visit, and I think this holds true for quite a few people. Now I've learned about some subforum that does kind of the same thing, but is located somewhere else (where I would never think to look, because I give MMORPGs a wider berth than I do GD).

That no one seems to know about it is a problem, I think. I would advice people to seek players for MP matches there... but they won't find anyone (except Dominion players). So in the end I'd recommend them to go to Playground instead.

To me, it seems illogical, which is why I am asking moderators if they or the users who post in their subforums feel the same.

So now Domonions MP Gaming sub-forum is moved, so that, err... it can be closer to SMAC threads? Then why aren't all SMAC threads moved to Domi MP Gaming sub-forum? Wasn't that the whole point?

The ones that do not qualify as LPs (2 out of 5) probably should. Any new games that are intended to be played and not acted out should be there as well.

The rest of them are an entertaining read, more of a show than a game, so they are better off in the LP section.

Are you implying that Dominions threads are not entertaining? Ok, some of them are not. But most are filled with drama and roleplaying that even SMAC threads never had.

Besides, I don't think that "entertaining read" is the proper criteria here. If people post threads to gather and play an mp session of any game, it should be in MP Gaming.

I don't know about moving existing games there (I'll think about moving mine), but new ones should be created in the dedicated subforum.

Well the entire subforum is now in the lp subforum. So just transfer all the smac games into it. Picking and choosing based on muh feels is silly.
