Aloha y'all

I've just noticed that GoG has Myst at their usual low price.

I've played a bit of Riven and enjoyed the strange vibes from that game. How does Myst compare to it? I plan to buy Riven when it also comes to GoG, so I'm wondering if it would be worth it to play through Myst before going to the sequel.

Discuss!!

Personally, I never enjoyed the original Myst all that much. imo, Myst 4: Revelation was the best of the series.

The story is a bit cryptic in the first two games (it was fleshed out in three novels), but in Riven you kinda finish what you started in Myst. You won't really miss anything much storywise. Myst has easier and more self-contained puzzles, though you might have some trouble solving a particular puzzle if you're tone-deaf. It could serve to warm you up for Riven, I suppose.

Riven is still, in my mind, the pinnacle of the series as several puzzles are intertwined multi-stage ones that require exploration of the game-world to solve. As Elwro (I think it was) likes to point out you'll be unable to finish the game if you're color-blind, but they can be deviously difficult (though always logical, not lateral, in nature) even so. It features some choices and consequences, leading to multiple endings. Also, Gehn is p. cool.
