I wonder when Streum On will realize their fans just want an exact gameplay replica of EYE but with prettier graphics.

They clearly are huge Warhammer nerds and EYE was more or less their version of an Inquisitor game with the serial numbers filed off.
Then they go and make a nuDuum clone.

Fucking Frogs man.

e: Okay thats a great first impression. Start up the game, hit "Enter", game kills my Radeon drivers. Literally killed them. Monitors lost signal, I had to cold reboot my machine and afterwards the drivers were just gone according to Windows. I reinstalled em and it seems to work now, but still...

I can already tell this is consolized to shit and back just from the menus though. Barely any graphics options, switch menus with A and... FUCKING E?!

e3: There some really ass-backwards design here. Why can't I leave the main menu with ESC? I can pull it up with escape but not close it? WTF.
Why can't I see my current equipment on the fly? I have to access a terminal for that. Why can't I empty out my gun slots? I equipped two identical guns but I cant unequip them anymore, only exchange for another. This isn't just jank this is just incomprehensible idiocy. The game also runs at a steady ~80 FPS for me yet it still stutters when moving forward, probably because the level doesn't load in fast enough. I blame consoles.

I played it through the tutorial/level 1 before you get implants and had lots of skipping problems, I turned off DX12 and also turned off motion blur and lowered shadows and one other thing, I didn't even notice much of a difference so it might be the settings are bugged? dunno... anyways w/ DX11 and the tweaks to the "automatic generated" I restarted and it is running a lot better, w/ DX12 I would get weird hitches/stutters but framerate was consistent, it was odd. I still got some hitches but it's usually when I enter a new area and it drops 10 frames for a second like it's loading in a bunch of things at once, I dislike it but it has happened except in "loading areas" where nothing is happening. Sometimes there are times where it seems like frame drops but it's just jank or bad animations, weird sound mixing w/ vocals, etc.

As far as the game itself, with what little I've played I enjoy it, particularly because the level designs are linear and yet wide open both vertically and horizontally, it feels like one big quake map. I disagree that it feels "floaty" it definitely is janky at parts but I think movement is really well done, and works with well with the feeling of the maps, lots of areas that can only be accessed by wall running and jumping/dashing in the air, the loot chests are kind of like secrets in classic fps games and a reward (money/gear) for exploration/secret hunting. Lots of little nooks and crannies where armor shards or health is tucked away.

So far only 2 levels in I'm enjoying it and once I got the technical issues ironed out it felt a lot better, I'm sure things could turn sour but my initial impressions are good. Also I recommend to play on at least Hard, it forces you to be more active in either moving around to avoid damage or being aggressive to heal with autosanguine.

Works on my machine. Seriously, that sounds like a problem with your drivers.

I don't know about consolized but yeah A and E is weird as fuck instead of Q and E but I just thought of something and maybe it's because they are French and use AZERTY, so A would be their Q and they just left it lol

Dunno what you are talking about leaving the main menu with ESC? I'll have to try it.
Yeah it is jank that you can't empty out your gun slot at the end of mission screen when you are picking loot, but you can easily sell it at the vendor in camp. As far as stuttering have you turned off DX12? it helped me.

TTN (Time to Nigger) about 2 minutes:
Is that the default character choice?
Not a problem as long as the game uses genders instead of "body types". Even then, I would give a pass if the body editor is not gimped. As in: Can you make a white blonde guy with blue eyes as your avatar?
If one of these choices is unavailable in the char generator, then that's something else.

Bought the game, but waiting for a patch or two for a proper playthrough.

In the grim age of... 2017 and forward, playing games in day 1 is foolish. You have to wait 2-4 weeks minimum so that the patches are out and the game is polished. Or wait 1 year or so for the ULTIMATE EDITION! for the best experience.

The game doesn't seem to be TOO janky but there are some kinks that need to be hammered out, like the way the menus are controlled. Inventory management is just stupid right now.

Played a few more missions and my opinion improved somewhat. I don't think the game is any more floaty than nuDoom but the influences are absolutely there. It plays like a mix between Bulletstorm and NuDoom basically. The game encourages you do to crazy stuns and double jump/slide everywhere.

Pros:
- Visual design is superb, just as it was in Deathwing. READABLE PURITY SEALS! They went a bit crazy for my taste but it certainly fits the style of Necromunda.
- Level design is also good. There is a lot of verticality everywhere to go along with your grappling hook and double jump and enemies are capable enough to follow you and pose a threat.
- After switching to DX11 the stutter vanished and otherwise the game runs rock solid and looks good.
- Weapon customization is insane. You can adjust everything from stock to grip to barrel to paint scheme.
- On Hard the difficulty feels right - There's no regenerating health, the only way to get it back is by killing or refractor field batteries
- I bought a bolter and it feels... okay. 20 round magazine, semi-automatic and very little recoil. Bolts actually explode

Cons:
- Fights can quickly descend into complete chaos and its sometimes hard to make out who or what just hit you. I've been killed on occasion without knowing why
- Chain-executions a la Doom are a valid tactic. I E'd my way through 6 dudes one after the other with no pause or problems. There ARE enemies you can't execute but so far they've been rare
- As mentioned UI/inventory controls are an inconsistent mess but nothing that couldn't be patched
- I have no idea what they purpose of med kits is. They heal you, yes, but so do executions and you only ever get 3 during the whole mission. TTK is low so they aren't much good in emergencies either
- Dog doesn't seem that useful. Summoning him highlights enemies which is nice but other than that he doesn't do much
- Using abilities is stupid, they are by default either at the end of the number keys and out of reach for any normal WASD using person or on the ability wheel which doesn't pause the game
- Music tends towards generic buttrock, okay for a shooter but not exactly 40k material
- I just fought a bunch of Escher psykers. That's just a big fucking NO, setting-wise.
- Sound design needs work, it feels like everything is too low volume

There's no direct body customization, you have the choice of about a dozen character models and you can get slightly different coats and such later on for free.

I spent a few hours on it, didn't get too far into the campaign. Here are my thoughts playing on base PS4:

The Curse of Licensed 40k Games Continues

  • Performance:
    • Keep in mind I'm playing on shitty base PS4, but from what I've seen on Steam, PC is even worse
    • Running 30 FPS (lol) pretty smoothly 80% of the time. Dips in FPS don't generally occur from fights but from seemingly random moments (asset/level loads most likely)
    • Crashed once in 2 hours of playtime
    • Crash led to a corrupted save file, which hilariously loaded just fine
    • Lots of bugs
  • Graphics:
    • It's alright, nothing to write home about. Everything's a shade of 40k brown
    • It's like a 2008 AAA game. Even the ragdolls are straight out of the late 00's
    • Melee kill animations are pretty bad
    • Guns look great
    • Enemies look like they're out of 2008 too, except Ogryns, those look like PS1 models
  • Sound:
    • Awful. Everything besides gunfire is barely non-existent
    • Music is okay, fits right at home in Doom 2016
    • Dialogue is super muffled, which is honestly a blessing
    • Male PC voice sounds like a bitch, I honestly wish there was a mute button
  • Gameplay:
    • I heard something was wrong with the control pad settings and holy shit they weren't kidding
    • Even after messing with the settings and maxing sensitivity, aiming is so rigid the game is borderline unplayable with controller
    • Gunplay is smooth and fun, when aiming's not being shit
    • Expect waves of braindead AI charging you
    • Your dog's even dumber, practically useless except as a radar
    • Combat is easy due to the fact that you can just auto-kill enemies in melee range
    • You're going to be in melee range a lot because shooting things in the distance is pure pain
    • Melee finishers lock you into a lengthy animation where you are invincible
    • Gameplay is basically Doom 2016
  • Progression systems:
    • Best part of the game
    • LOTS of player augmentations
    • Some for the dog too, but the dog kind of sucks
    • Lots of weapons and weapon modifications
    • Slots also for charms
    • I haven't come across any armor besides "light undersuit." Did they forget to include other armor types? Seems kind of lazy.
  • Story/writing:
    • Hilariously bad
    • Spam the skip button

First impressions: Meh+

Like I've said elsewhere, my PC is for dev work and I inevitably get distracted when I install games on it.

Like the 1000 hours I probably have on rimworld.

Edit: That reminds me I need to continue work on that parody 40k porn game I started.

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming!
Played for 80 minutes so far:

- the portrayal of underhive is top notch

- gunplay feel p. good, lots of somewhat meaningful customisation options for guns

- melee is cool

- the game is (unless it significantly opens up later on) a straight up corridor shooter with some platforming/parkour (think Ghostrunner) segments and minor exploration aspect (search for the loot crates)

- cyber-doge so far feels like a gimmick rather than a meaningful addition

Combat is very lethal (I play on the highest difficulty), which in itself is fine, but I find it very upsetting that the game doesn’t offer various approaches to solving fights (like straight up combat, stealth, climbing to better position to snipe etc), in some places it is possible to use terrain to your advantage, but generally you just go in guns blazing. I would love a Metro style gameplay in this game´s environment, since it is done pretty well and the game would benefit greatly from it.

I was only up against gangers so far, but the faction list in the mission screen shows even various chaos cults and such, so I hope to see more variety in the future.

In any case - if you want pure action in a well-made 40K setting, it is worth getting.

RPG Wokedex Strap Yourselves In Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag. Pathfinder: Wrath I helped put crap in Monomyth
Looks like nu-Doom in WH40k but with better scenarios, for good and bad. Shame it is W10 exclusive and weights too much space-wise, although perhaps my PC can play it with some tinkering.
The basic enemies look bland and boring, may or may not be intentional.
I dunno where these gang punks got access to stealth tech though. Or why a techpriest is bothering to repair/sell you crap for money, besides gameplay, of course. Needing funds for totally not-heretical projects of his own?

the techpriest could have been kicked of the upper hive for any reason (not necessarily for tech-heresy) and making ends meet in the lower hive? Or maybe he's hunting for rare tech down hive and he's buying and selling shit to pass the time.

That was the one I was watching. 80% finished and may patch up well but janky and unbalanced at the moment. The exploit for combat was something one of the live streamers picked up on within a couple of minutes of starting to play. That'll be a pass from me. Focus have already had my annual subscription to their Warhammer 'release, 3 DLC, and bail' model without this.

Streum On didn't really behave like this for their previous game, where they continued to work on it, eventually releasing a enhanced edition and without any paying DLC. Though now that Streum On has been acquired by Focus Home, maybe they'll follow the same model this time.

I'm willing to give a ton of latitude to devs for the mad year we've just had but Focus have this habit of pushing games out slightly undercooked at best and then development time post-release being spent chasing up the extensive bugreporting made in betas and by QA. It's strange comparing across beta processes with other producers working with very small dev teams and noting the differences. You're right to correct me though that Streum On could buck the trend. Genuinely wish them well with it even if I'm not tempted to buy a ticket to this one.

The game stutters a lot on my PC. Lowering the settings doesn't really help much. Think my CPU is finally starting to bottleneck me since everything else should be fine.

Edit: I turned off dx12 and while it did help a considerable amount, the stuttering is still there and it does hinder my enjoyment. For a shooter you really want it to be 100% silky smooth. Luckily I bought it on GOG so I can sleep on it a while longer before issuing a refund. I'll wait a week or two to see if Streum will release a patch or a statement that they'll fix the game, because it does need some polish.

so not only it has no reason to be a w10 exclusive, but being such is actually detrimental.

Oh yeah, this is out.
Let's see if I can play it now or if I have to get a new SSD to install WIN10 on.
Works if you manually set it to use dx11. Didn't play past the first mission, though I'm surprised they'd let you press E for ryona right at the outset of the game. The Ryona button is pretty janky though, sometimes it gave you a fair bit of range, sometimes it refused to work on a crouching enemy that's right in your face.

Finished the first mission (train). My observations so far:

- Intermittent framerate drops, I think when data is being loaded onto the GPU. Would be nice if this was fixed.
- I don't like the movement controls. Dashing and crouching must be bound to the same key? Very bad.
- The gameplay, overall, is not terrible, but it's not as good as EYE.
- The music is mostly good, except the combat music, which sounds like crappy boomer rock music. All the other music I've heard so far (atmospheric stuff mainly) is great, and reminds me a lot of EYE. It's good that they kept Zuccaro, but I would have liked if the combat music sounded more like EYE's, which actually was more appropriate to 40k than this.
- Again, the visuals remind me a lot of EYE, but with better graphics and more 40k-ish. Just about any location where there isn't an explicitly 40k item on screen, feels like it could be taking place on a Federal world.

Overall verdict, it's ok, and if they smooth out performance and touch up combat a bit, it could be pretty good, but I really just want EYE with better graphics.

Edit: oh yeah, and you get a limited supply of medkits, and the only other way to replenish your health is to do those press-key-to-takedown things. I fucking despire press-key-to-takedown mechanics, so having those be a core part of the gameplay loop is a major problem. Just removing press-key-to-takedown in favour of normal melee and having EYE style medkits or Alchemy would make the game much, much better.

Was day-1 release EYE as janky? IIRC Space Hulk was until the definite edition was launched.

Worse, honestly. I remember getting a lot of random crashes to desktop, and I think the game in general had a lot of other miscellaneous bugs that were squashed later.

I think the more I play the game the more I start to like it. I just wish they'd fix the stuttering. Also don't sleep on your dog's upgrades. Even if the AI can be a bit wonky, I find that upgrading the range at which the dog attacks enemies does help mitigate that problem, and the dog is quite useful in the wave battles. Siccing your dog on feminist-lesbian gangers with a squeaky rat toy is pretty based.

Something I found odd is the absence of gibs. Grenades sometimes gib enemies but regular bullets never dismember anyone.

Looks like the fit girl has a demo available for those willing, although no idea if it can be made to work in W7 this game. Either way it sounds like it should spend a few more months in the oven before it is ready.
Speaking of: are there functional flamers as available guns in this game? Burning people alive is one of the divine rights of any good citizen of the imperium.
